I'm through with this game!

Well, I tried to give FNV a fair try. But after playing 52 hours it suddenly starts to crash. I mean it crashes every time I get back in the game and start playing. It will play for like 5 minutes then boom, crash!

Oh well, I wasn't loving it yet anyway. On to the next game I guess.

I think in one of his earlier threads he said he got it on PS3. svcks, but PS3 ruined long RPGs.

You haven't tried to fix it at all, and instead cried on the forums?

I think it colored your opinion on the game.

I'm not sure why people buy the game on PS3, but you might want to look the issue up before doing what you just did.

There's your problem then if you're on PS3.

Something about the way the PS3 is designed doesn't cope well with big open worlds.
It's a known issue, both for New Vegas and Skyrim, very visible if you check Metacritic scores and compare the scores of the Xbox, PC and PS3 versions. The PS3 versions see a noticeable drop it rating due to the performance issues.

Isn't it the saves that get bigger and bigger until they become bloated on the PS3?

It's the same way on PC as well.

Perhaps the OP needs to delete saves.

Never had that happen on PC. The most I've ever noticed is my larger saves have a 1-2 second lag when opening merchant windows, but that's it, and that's with characters exceeding 100 hours and 10 KB of space on the save.
It's the PS3 and the way it processes data. It just hits the roof too quick on how much data it can process. Which I knew the technical causes but I'm no technician, I just know what the reports I've read stated. :P

I'm not saying it's a problem on PC. They do gradually get larger with every save, though.

I've reached 10,000 KB on saves before.

Good God, simma down everyone. I'm on PC, and yes I've done quite a bit to fix it. I wouldn't just quit a game without doing a bunch of tech work/troubleshooting. Even Steams advice failed.

Get the facts before you judge. And I'll be glad to offer any facts. And it didn't color my opinion of the game: 52 hours is quite a bit of gametime for me to understand the feel of the game. If I can't finish it, I just can't finish it. I WANTED to play it, I wanted to finish it. It's not my fault the game broke.

Going nuts about the whole subject just causes more room for user error.

There are mods like archiveinvalidated that help with crashes, as well as deleting saves can make more room and cause it to lag less.

I would recommend getting rid of every single one of your mods as a start. Some mods can really ruin the way the game runs.

Just to chime in here, you guys are a little misinformed. I play on PS3 and the only time I've ever had crashing problems is in Bitter Springs, McCarran, Forlorn Hope, Red Rock, and The Strip, which are problematic across the board. Other than that. In the year or two I've been playing New Vegas the only time I've had real trouble play wise is if I've played for consecutive 5-6 hours relentlessly.

There are certainly exceptions on all platforms, but most of the bug complaints do seem to come from PS3 users.

^This.

I played the ps3 version for a solid year and the only problems I had were freezing issues in the areas mentioned above. I didn't start getting the 'random crashes' until the save file reached 10+ megabytes, which happened after ~125+ hours, and even then the game wouldn't crash until after ~45 minutes of gameplay. In other words, Gardenia's experience is just a hit or miss thing, and it doesn't represent a universal problem with every ps3 version of the game.

Also, Gardenia, you could try to fix the problem (look into what is causing it). It's probably just that you have too many other saves on your ps3 (from other games or from New Vegas).

I know everyone has different experiences with glitches. I know people who are like you Martyr, ps3 no bugs. But most complaints come from ps3 users.

Gardenia, did you try to the bug forum? They might help if you can provide your specs.

I Don't Have A PS3----------->I play on a standard desktop computer otherwise known as a PC. I have no mods installed period, just Fallout New Vegas and all the dlcs which I downloaded from Steam. I'll Google for some more tech support, save files etc. but I've already done a good bit of work on the problem.

Then you probably [censored] something up, because my PC version has had zero problems (of the kind that you mentioned) since I started with it nine months ago; and I use a few mods (small mods, but still).

Fortunately, problems on PC are very easy to fix. Try unofficial patches, a load order mod (FOMM is good) or just search the internet for advice.

Same here, I'm a PS3 user and I don't get anywhere near as many problems as has been documented. Extended periods of play leads to increased lag on Fallout 3 and New Vegas, up to the point where it will crash unless I do a preemptive restart. But this is usually 3 hours and upwards. Usually.

Funnily enough, Skyrim, on my level 39 character has run flawlessly; no lags, no crashes, no bugs. Almost perfection.

Basically, the threshold for PS3 users experiencing problems seems to be linked with the save game file. Anything upwards of 10MB seems to be the point of no return, and is when the game crashes too frequently to be almost unplayable. I absolutely had this in Fallout 3 with my level 30 character (save game file was 14MB!), but rarely in New Vegas, since somehow they have managed to keep the file saves constantly low. As an example, my current level 28 character has only a 7.5MB save file, and runs with few problems.

Hey boys and girls I just wanted to apologize to you all if I came off as jerk on the thread. I don't believe in that kind of behavior. I was, and still am just frustrated about the game crashing on me over and over. It just didn't make sense but that's no reason for me to be impolite to anyone here. I'll keep trying to solve the problem and see if I can get Fallout NV working. Again, I'm sorry.

Gardenia :)
