[REQz] Throwing Weapons Models

Post » Thu Oct 08, 2009 6:25 pm

Mm, not really. I'm not sure I can really use it for the existing stuff right now. =/

How about,"bone star" and it could be found on skeleton marksmen.

Hmm, interesting thought. I'm not sure I'm going to include it in the mod though - I'm just trying to fill in some gaps in the pre-existing material sets, mainly for mid- and upper-end throwing weapons. :)

I don't mean to be picky... for the spike, is there any way to set up the mapping such that it comprises the entire spike? In other words, no mirroring one one side or another. In other words, if I hold the spike up, and I wrap a piece of paper around it - that is what I want the texture to be like. Does that make any sense?

Sure I'll see what I can do.

Edit the UV mapping to your pleasure, it is no longer mirrored.

Wouldn't tying the tines together with rope make things a little er... floppy?

That's why it doesn't look sophisticated. :grad: It's a low quality weapon for low quality results. ^_^

So, um, still interested in new meshes! :D Preferably ones that look like those photos I linked to in the opening post (I crossed out the ones we've already got meshes for. Thanks swrdphantom and Dragon_Lance!).

If you're interested, I've made some http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v665/bodvar/throwingknives.jpg They haven't been textured yet, though, I just threw a quick planar map on each. I made some http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v665/bodvar/Shuriken-render.jpg, also. They obviously haven't been textured yet, either. If there's anything you'd like, I can probably get them mapped tomorrow and send them to you. I might also be able to texture some, as well.

 Those look fantastic, bodvar! I'm interested in all of them, oh yes! I can't wait to look at them in Nifskope and try to put some textures on them! :dancing:

I had made that mesh before your post, but there's no reason you shouldn't make it too if you'd like.

I haven't had a chance to test those ingame, so let me know if there's any problems. It's been a while since I made a weapon, so it's possible I forgot a step or something in the exporting. Also, if need be I could adjust the UVW mapping in case it'd work better if it were different.

A few more here: http://search.yacoby.net/?name=Throwing+Axes&author=&description=&game=MW

Did anyone make a spear thrower; good for the players who like primitive - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlatl
And here - http://images.google.ca/images?hl=en&q=spear+thrower&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=ihHxSeCeKJvflQfA283TDA&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&resnum=1&ct=title.

Dale French made a http://search.yacoby.net/click.php?id=923&location=PES_MW&url=http%3A%2F%2Fplanetelderscrolls.gamespy.com%2FView.php%3Fview%3DMods.Detail%26id%3D923, so perhaps that would also be a possibility?

I just found the Max files for the http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v376/BlueEagle26/glassdart1-1.jpg I worked on years ago for my Glass Expansion.
For some reason, it didn't get included.
The model should be complete, and uses Bethesda's glass weapon textures.
If anyone is interested in converting it for in-game use, PM me an email address to send the files to. < Is this alright to ask here?

Hmm, well, I'm trying to texture it with vanilla textures, so that the weapons will benefit from texture replacers. This also means I'm limited as far as orientation goes. In other words, the UV mapping for the knives is such that it is at an angle. Naturally, you can fit more texture into a square if it is aligned along the diagonal, as opposed to a side. But, the textures in Morrowind - particularly the weapon textures, are usually oriented straight up-and-down. Would it be possible to make the knife textures (the hilt and blades for the curved dagger, and the serrated and straight knives) oriented up-and-down (vertically)? Am I making any sense?

Also, if you have the time... for the throwing stars (let's exclude the swastikas, that is a bit of a charged symbol), if possible, could the UV mapping be set up to something similar to Dragon_Lance's shuriken (found in the first page or so of this thread)? In other words, have all the 'arms' of the throwing star actually use a single texture, with another UV map for a circle (or other polygonal shape) around the center? That'd make it easier to have all the arms look identical. :)

(I'll let you know how they turn out in-game, and if there needs to be any scaling or orientation changes once I get to the testing phase.)

Thanks bunches, these meshes are beautiful!

Okay! I've done some fiddling around in Nifskope, and here's what I have to show for it!

the ebony throwing knife looks great! that model suits the ebony set well
the bonemold star model is a bit plain, but seeing as the only bonemold weapon in the game is a bow, which is indeed also very plain, it fits in ok

i dislike the dwemer throwing star though, i think it should either use a more specialized model though i'm not really sure how it should look like, i can't really picture one of the dwemers using a throwing star, or maybe you should just not make a throwing star for them, as i don't think throwing stars really suit the dwemer

I'm not sure I even like the idea of a Bonemold throwing star. Going to hold off on the dwemer one, too, you are right, it just doesn't seem to suit them...

http://i468.photobucket.com/albums/rr50/Alaisiagae/Mod%20Screenshot%20MW/Misc/knife_silver.jpg. Uses the silver cuirass texture because the silver weapon textures were kind of not useful. Feedback is welcome!

Okay, Blue Eagle sent me the Max file of the Glass Dart. Could somebody please kindly convert it to a .nif? http://www.mediafire.com/?jzzx2nmemgo.

Yup, the silver does look odd - too out of place, I suppose. *goes back to drawing board*
