Throwing Weapons?

Post » Wed May 11, 2011 11:49 am

What I want to say is,I agree with the previous post on the point that this is a game and several things should be altered to make it fun, even if it's against physics of real world. It's also impossible to chain weapons swings with the speed we can in the game.Or use a dagger at 200 stabs per minute.

I've seen videos of people (like in real life, not for a movie) swinging swords around in staged fights (with real swords) faster than in Oblivion. Swords were actually very light. The Oblivion speed for this is not really over the top at all.

The boomerang thing is way out of the realm of possibility for having it return to you after a strike, and the attatching knives idea? Don't get me started. Todd said they wanted to avoid many of the more ridiculous things that Japanese RPGs tend towards.

EDIT: Though a non-returning, non randomly adorned boomerang could be quite an effective weapon in skilled hands.

There should be more than just weapon only assigned to be thrown, (this is a bit much but) i would like to just find a weapon lying on the ground and be able to throw it at my enemies. What about fallout 3 new vegas, you could learn some sweet hand to hand moves like throwing sand and kicking the enemy in their knees. Also what it animals didn't just have stuff for ingredients what if you could pull out a lion tooth and make it a weapon or throw it or use spider poison to poison your weapons? There are a lot of thing and BRING THE THROWING WEAPONS BACK

No,I'm against the boomerang idea too.I just wanted to say a game should not be limited with real life physics all the time.Especially a fantasy game.It becomes so that I have to do archery in real life to be able to hit a target in the game at that rate.

Plus Todd doesn't know what he wants(other than money). They keep bashing JRPG's but they're adding freakin' fatalities. And long-opposed dual wielding.Nearly everybody was against dual wielding when Oblivion was at the stage Skyrim is now.People would go "oh here's another dual wielding thread.Don't we have enough of those".
And tell me I wouldn't be chased away with people shouting "this isn't a JRPG" if I suggested finishing moves when they were not confirmed.

The only throwing weapons that would fit well into the Skyrim world are throwing axes and javelins.

To say that there were western influenced weapons in Morrowind, which is an easternly inspired area, and hence there should be eastern influenced weapons in Skyrim is just wrong. There were western influenced weapons in Morrowind because the Imperials we're there en masse. And, correct me if Im wrong, but I havent seen or heard anything about House Redoran invading Skyrim.

Shurikens etc would be totally awesome etc etc but if they dont fit, then they shouldnt be in.

Yes, I want to throw my shield into one's face.
That does sound like a cliché, doesn't it?

While I agree using a Boomerang and having it return to you perfectly after striking an opponent is very unrealistic... I mean, Boomerangs don't even work properly in real life lol (Well, either that or I just svck). But I can see it working in a game.

Yes, Boomerangs need a very large field to "come back" properly and it's pretty tricky to catch a boomerang, even trickier if there's a blade on it.

It would certainly add variety to the marksman skill. Bows are two-handed, but many of these throwing weapons could be one-handed. More variety FTW!

I'd suggest bringing back http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Throwing_Weapons, and adding Throwing Axes.

i honestly cant even see it working in a game, it would feel so stupid that you throw a boomerang, it hits an enemy without changing its trajectory and then comes back

I'd rather have a really awesome archery system, than a crappy, thrown-together-last-minute, multiple throwing weapon system.

Yes! Throwing stars and knives like in Morrowind would be awesome for stealth characters!

Oh and would you guys please stop with the "No, it has to be Nordic", it's not like just because you're playing in Skyrim doesn't mean all of Tamriel shouldn't be completely ignored. Morrowind and Oblivion weren't japanese-themed, yet they had katanas and throwing stars. Some diversity is great for the game and it makes the world feel much larger. And throwing knives fit stealth characters way better than axes and javelins. Those things are pretty hard to conceal...

I'd rather have a really awesome archery system, than a crappy, thrown-together-last-minute, multiple throwing weapon system.

Right, because 236 days isn't enough to add a decent throwing weapon system?

Was poison in Morrowind? I can't remember.

Other than saving weight for delivering a paralyze poison to a target a short distance away, I don't want them. I couldn't hit anything and do any worthy damage with them in MW. To me, they're redundant and not needed. Well, maybe if the encumberance system got revamped, and if the bulk of what you carry has a bearing on stealth...

But give me the equivilant of grenades I'd be happy

I said no.
I say no because I would rather have their time dedicated to making everything else better rather than adding a ninja star..
This isn't a JRPG... And yes maybe there are Katanas in Cyrodiil and other Japanese inspired weapons but I don't think you will see a Nord running around with a little dart and throwing at a dragon..
Do you really see that? I do not.

Not to forget throwing spears.Plus, fighting dragons isn't the only thing you do in the game. There should be weapons for assasinations as well, thus darts and knives and smaller weapons.

No, but I can think of nothing better (or more Nordic) than a boar spear thrown full force to take down a dragon. It would fill the role of an arrow, except it isn't just a pin "poke."

Also, throwing axes.

Edit: Really? The censor is too sensitive, and considering Oblivion was rated M, I think it insults our intelligence and maturity to have such a filter.
