Throwing Weapons?

Post » Wed May 11, 2011 8:02 am

I was thinking, lots of people have commented on spears but there is no sign of bethesda doing them, but what about other throwable weapons.

Throwing Daggers
Needles
Shuriken
Kunai
Boomerangs
Chakrams

Stuff like this.
What Do You Think

they could incorporate these weapons into the marksman skill.

TWO WORDS... AEGIS FANG

This is the second time I have had to post the exact same thing on a similar thread - though it never gets boring....

Or, how about some throwing spears and throwing axes....it is in a Nordic based region after all. Anyway, as long as it is done better than in Fallout: NV. Fallout NV was a good start, but they could have gone further.

Considering where Skyrim is placed, it should probably be Throwing Axes and Javelins, it'd be nice tossing two throwing axes then drawing your main weapon and more realistic of actual war fare.

Javelins and throwing axes have my vote. Silly ninja stuff shouldn't bind resources unless it is quest relevant (throwable Azura's Star with soultrap on hit for finishing off enemies, anyone?), as we have mods for that.

It's not silly ninja stuff and it should be in Skyrim.

Didn't they more or less say that there would only be bows in that Q&A podcast Todd Howard did?

Javelins and throwing axes would make perfect sense to add though, and although shurikens etc might not fit to well with the area throwing knives shouldnt be all to wrong.

Hell yeah, you should be able to pick anything up at launch it :) including people!

I think Axes and Knives would make the best throwing weapons mentioned in this thread, mainly because Mages have Telekinesis, Thief/Assassin classes could use the Knives and Warrior classes the Axes.

Well, it doesn't really fit the culture...but then Akaviri weapons have a definite Asian influence, so because of that I agree some of those types should be in. Morrowind had ninja stars and darts anyway.

Well they had plenty of European based weapons in alien (with a few middle-east and Mongolian influences) Morrowind.

I think a boomerang that returns to you would be cool. Especially if you could craft stuff to it like other weapons to make its damage go up. Like adding an axe blade makes it go up by one and adding several daggers not only changes the look of the weapon but also adds all the effects of each added dagger.

Have any of you guys played Rune (game by Humanhead studios) man that was a great game! heres the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O275k9tFwFo priceless start of a story, and heres an http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SK0Xf30DL0E&feature=related (yes i'm also saying if you haven't played it you definetly should) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rune_(computer_game)
That game is from 2000, its one of the most epic games i've ever played and its set in a similar place as skyrim, you can decapitate people and use their limbs as weapons (in multiplayer you can even lose your sword arm and survive with only a shield!, oh snap!) how does this relate to this topic? a basic combat feature in this game is that you can press Q to throw Any weapon that you're holding, even if its the decapitated head of that goblin you just killed or the warhammer you just found lying on the ground. this isn't a roleplaying game tho, more of a hack n slash. one of the first games i owned, man i should play this one through again!

I want to be able to throw ANY Weapon i am holding in skyrim. not just specific throwing weapons. maybe not for excessive distances, but what if i need to quickly change from sword to spell? then i can throw the sword at the nearest enemy and hope it hits him with the pointy end, then target the one to the right with my spell. sounds logical right?

Boomerangs don't really work as well as you see on TV. It's actually a rather hard thing to throw right so that it will come directly back to you. Unless you're an expert, it usually ends up some 20 metres away, somewhere to your left and forward. Also, if you hit something, at least a large thing, definitely don't expect it to return to you. Oh, yeah, and also, adding a weapon to a boomerang would make it fail. They are crafted to be a specific shape and weight to catch the wind in the right way.

I wandor what non tradtional spears are. Throwing axes would be good if they had a nice long range.

Throwing daggers, kunai, javelins, throwing axes, and shurikens plz.

These would be nice alternatives to bows when you're out of arrows and not particularly good at spells.

Can't really imagine throwing a boomerang and dont really know what chakrams are.

If throwing weapons are included I really hope they aren't like fallout NV, not just because they could be hard to aim over distances but the biggest issue I had with them was that you couldn't pick them back up and throw them again, why can't they just degrade like other weapons instead of performing the same task as a grenade that doesn't explode?

Yes, that's silly. Extended usability should be one of the biggest advantages of throwing weapons over arrows.

I don't really like boomerangs, but what I'd expect of "realistic physics" in a game wouldn't be arrows going out of their way with wind, but people waking up when I bash their planter to their head.

What I want to say is,I agree with the previous post on the point that this is a game and several things should be altered to make it fun, even if it's against physics of real world. It's also impossible to chain weapons swings with the speed we can in the game.Or use a dagger at 200 stabs per minute.

Throwing weapons? I so want to see a throwing spear. Now thinking of it,"spears not in classical sense" could point to throwing spears actually?
