Thrown Weapons?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 9:06 am

I was thinking it would be pretty cool if they had the extra two triggers on the controllers designated for like throwing your weapons at your enemy, kind of like in AC: Brotherhood. I mean, wouldn't it be awesome to be fighting a troll and then to back up and just chuck your axe at it?! It could pretty much work with any weapon and it would add a new dimension to combat and difficulty. Thoughts?

I reckon the controls will be...

Left Trigger: Attack left hand
Right Trigger: Attack right hand

Left Bumper: Block (with both hands?)
Right Bumper: Sprint

I would be good if you hold BLOCK + ATTACK together to throw your weapon, especially if spears are available.

I wonder if a similar mechanic could be used to implement a shield bash of sorts.

I should be able to throw my spear at opponents, then pull it out of their carcass and smack their friends around with it. As for darts and throwing knives etc, sure, more options is always good, but I doubt I will use it.

There was no sprint in Oblivion I doubt there will be in Skyrim.

Back-pedalling is slower, sprint is in. Confirmed by GI.

Oh that's a shame, appears they may be borrowing from generic shooters then.

With regards to throwing weapons, you could do this in a game called Rune. It was a fun to surprise your opponent by throwing your weapon at them, whether it be a massive axe or broadsword even.

It's confirmed that sprint will be a part of Skyrim gameplay.

On topic, I would love to be able to throw a spear 300 style. Heft it over your shoulder, maybe charge it, and WOOSH! Maybe as a finishing move. That would be sick. But I feel like I'm dreaming. :toughninja:

Great idea! I also wouldn't mind specialized "throwing" weapons (knives, stars, etc) as opposed to throwing your main weapon.

Actually, I imagine they're attempting to address two long-term complaints:

1. Back-pedalling making combat too easy, like the spear/back-pedal technique from MW or similar tactics in OB.

2. The choice, especially early game, between burning off all your fatigue or being unbelievable, gratingly slow (walk/run toggle).

At least, I hope the second one is right, because that annoyed the hell outta me.

This time around if we have thrown weapons I don′t want to see daggers, darts and throwing stars. This is Skyrim, give up throwing hammers/axes and spears that do a lot of damage but are heavy so you can′t hold many, was not much fun to backpedal and throw tons of stars into your enemies in Morrowind, but throwing an axe while charging into your enemy only to draw a huge hammer to smash the enemy with sounds nice.

Shield Bash is executed by holding down the bash button. http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2011/01/24/skyrim-building-better-combat.aspx
