[REQ] Thu'um

While I was in the Morrowind forum, I read about http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1114082-brittlewind-berserk-andthuum-putting-it-all-in-game to incorporate the power of Thu'um (a racial power that (some? any?) Nords have. I've suggested to put it by editing http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=6549 (freely modificable), although frankly I don't know if MWSE would be up to the task...

...but given OBSE's amazing development, I think that a good Thu'um mod could be done, making it a leveled power (with an independent levelling system, based of your stats and how often you use it, or with the normal Oblivion's one), and making it not only limited to basic spells, but also paralyzing and/or knocking down enemies. It'd be even cooler if the on-target visual magic effects could be hidden, so it'd give the impression that you're not launching a spell, but actually using your voice as a weapon.

So, the basics would be:

- When you run the mod for the first time, it appears a menu to select the key to use Thu'um.

- Once selected, when you press they key, some http://www.therecordist.com/assets/sound/game_sfx_2002/dragon_roar04.mp3 would be played, and spell effect is casted (on target, inmediate effect, decent area effect, no on-target visual spell effects), and the selected Thu'um's effects would be applied to the affected NPC's (knocking them down, paralyzing, demoralizing, damaging their health...). If companions can be rallied and obtain some bonus as well, all the better (it's lore-wise and commented in "Children of the Sky" book, so it makes sense).

- It would take some time to "recharge", maybe 2-5 minutes (I'd say 5), to make it lore-wise and not to overpower it.

So, anyone interested? :)

I actually briefly worked on a mod involving Thu'um. The idea was going to be that you use the power, and then time slows and you actually type in what you're shouting - and there'd be ways of learning things that you can type in to get different effects.

I still like the idea, but I never bothered to sit down and chart out all of the effects and how they would work. I did http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/Text_Input_With_OBSE, back before doing something like this would be relatively trivial (OBSE now has text-input functions and actual string variables), but that's all that ever came of it.

Someone else was working on a mod a while back that would cast spells if you actually said the name of them into a mic. That would be a very intriguing twist.

I like that idea, but I see it more for a v2 of the plugin. The aforementioned spellcast/sound (shouting) system would still be like the *skeleton* of the mod, and a good basis, I think..

You know, I like the "one step at a time" philosophy :)
