Thunder and Lightning

Don't care.
Don't care.

Write-in vote: Thunder and Lightning should be the names of a matched pair of dual-wielded artifact weapons.

Lighting would be some jagged sword and thunder some badass mace

Of course I wolve love to see this! Thunderstroms make any battle more epic! I was playing Read Dead Redemption yesterday and ended up having a knife fight with someone over a massive cliff and the one thought going through my mid other then kill him was "Man, the only thing that would make this more epic is a thunderstorm!"

I don't think lighting should be hitting characters. That's not something that's typical at all.

It should be able to hit characters, but yes it shouldn't be something that's typical at all.
we know that water this time around will have dynamic waves, with thunderstorms we could have a fun storm at sea quest

i didn't know that. thats sick. Thunderstorms could mean some gnar swells in Skyrim. I hope someone who knows what's up makes a steezy surfer mod.

I would love this but I wouldn't want it too often. Hopefully the lightening can be VERY BRIGHT! I remember lightning lighting up the room in Great Yarmouth :)

I can't believe there are people who actually voted NOT to have thunder and Lighning in the game. WTF? I sometimes think some people here just say things for no other purpose than being contrary. Lol. To those who voted in the nay column. . . would you also like the game to leave out things like The Sun and Stars? LOL.

Some people don't want much of anything new. They want Oblivion 2 or, just as bad, Morrowind 2. What we need is Elder Scrolls 5.

But Oblivion had Thunder and Lightning during storms. .. and anytime you neared an Oblivion gate. These people, Liu Bei, king of Shu. . . these people. lol

oh yeah i forgot.... foolish me. It must've not been very noticeable, or at least not very impressive. but yeah, since it was around in Oblivion, there's no reason to at least have some form of thunder in lightning, even if the lightning just makes the screen flash with thunder accompanying it immediatly, and you don't get any cool looking bolts, or realistic thunder.

Would be cool if some epic dragon generated thunderstorms wherever he flew. You'd be like..."The weather's turning rough, better find a cave or something, {dragon's name} is going to crush me."

edit, I voted don't care, not no

Intersting thought...

A totally subterr..Nihrmanian game...not bad. Original, no moon, no sun, no stars....not a bad idea  :P (and yes, that's being serious as well as humorous)

But ya know, I'm still happy with the Baldur's Gate series...no lightning nor thunder
If not for the Been There Done That aspect, I'd probably still be happy with the Original Wizardrys

And it's been so long since I played a text-based game, I'd probably enjoy that as well. Of course, there the lightning exists in my mind, and is often more powerful. And that segues into a different topic about what constitutes an RPG ;)

yeah, and you can't see the sky! :P but yeah, thats one of my top 5 series.

and for some reason i feel there was thunder/lightning flashes when Sarevok killed Gorion... maybe thats just my imagination though.

My Oblivion has cool-looking lightening, including lightening strikes on the ground, and delayed thunder.

yeah, what else would be cool, is a spell that basically makes the target a lightning rod. cast it on someone in a thunder storm, and he gets r^p3d by lightning

Call Lightning spell? I don't really count that though since it's not environmental. Doesn't count, nope, nada. nu'uh :nope: :)

I wasn't talking about call lightning... i thought there was flashes on-screen during some storms... but like i said, it might've been my imagination. I haven't played that game since i was 13-14.

It should be able to hit character's, but yes it shouldn't be something that's typical at all.

The thing is it would be so rare to hit characters why should they spend development resources for something that a majority of players wouldn't see in their game? I suppose they could make up lore about magical items being more electrically conductive so you would have to be careful at high points in a storm but there are just so many other things I'd want them to spend development time on other than that, unless it's a very simple thing for them to do.

I'd imagine it'd have the same effect as a strong "shock" spell, especially because their making the shock spell better (it effects bodies of water like bioshock, and also has a special effect on targets hit by shock, as opposed to just damage.) I don't think that this would be too hard to develop if it's like that, but i'm no game developer.

Metal, assuming the metal atracts lightning in the fantasy setting like here on earth, attracts lightning. Period. Pointy objects magnify the aspect. High place exaserbate it as well.

So, you dont' need lore to make it possible to be more prone to lightning strikes. You just need to be a knight in armor, on a hilltop, or around the roots of a tallest tree.

I come froma background in wilderness travel. I've met several trip leaders who have been shocked via ground currents. One leader died the year before I got to my internship. LIghtning is a big enough factor in wilderness trip leading that students/participants doa practice drill for it. Treatment for lightning strikes is taught in wildernss medicine. Prevention is always taught to leaders. When I was in the army, I had to ground my commo because I sure as hell didn't want an antena up when I was in a storm.

IN short, if your not careful, lightning danger is very real and prevelant. Its just that most folks with a lick of sense go to ground when it comes about, so injuries are limited.

yes, when i was a kid playing soccer, a lightning blot struck a goalpost during game-day. a woman (a p.e. teacher to a school i didn't go to) was touching the pole and got killed, and people nearby got shocked. my game was scheduled for later so i didn't see it myself. and i also kinda knew a kid that got kinda severe burns swimming in the river in my town during a thunderstorm. he said (in the newspaper) that the lightning was pretty far away from him too (forget exactly how far he estimated.

my point is, yes it's a very real danger If you aren't careful. I think that the one that struck the goalpost was during a not-so-bad storm either (cause usually they cancel games at the first sign of lightning.)

So true. All you need is laws of physics. No reason to believe they don't apply in TES.

Besides . . . you could mod a long, slender sword that you give to people and when they pulled it from the scabbard in a storm . . . Zzzaaappp!

Of course, it would be called: Lightning Rod.

Lightning shouldn't be able to strike you directly, only if your near something which acts as a lightning rod or if you are pretty up high.

Make my dead more meaningful and not just a ROFLBOT you were so unlucky with that 1/1000000000000000 chance of being randomly hit.

I also want it to alter NPC behavior and actually be something to be careful about, but not annoying.

I think a game with no sky would make me feel to claustrophobic. I am always happy to get back out into the open air in my RPGs, as much as I enjoy the ruins and dungeons.

And I also still love old Baldur's Gate. After all, it had couch co-op! :foodndrink: :tops: Totally Serious, if you are wondering.

I agree partially, I said before it shouldn't kill you, it should just hurt you pretty bad. And they would probably make getting hit by lightning an Xbox Achievement.
