Thunderstorms Make Antimatter

Post » Tue Mar 08, 2011 10:29 am

not too big of a deal, gamma ray bursts produced by decelerating (Bremsstrahlung) electrons ejected by thunderstorms have been for some time believed to be high enough energy to produce particle anti particle pairs, this being just the first time that anti particles were observed (or rather the high energy photons produced upon annihilation)..

the energy released by this antiparticle production being also a tiny, tiny fraction of the thermal and kinetic energy of the thunderstorm which produced these particles.
