Tiber Septim race

Post » Sun Jun 30, 2013 5:01 am

What do you guys think his race is? I think it's most likely that he was born to Atmorans who traveled to Highrock and then went to Skyrim to study with the Greybeards. This would solve the problem that he is very Nord-like, but isn't a Nord and came to Tamriel before the modern races were even around. He also ended up in Cyrodiil because it's the center of Tamriel, thus making it easier to rule the Empire, which also accounts for his descendants being Imperials.

If you want to know my sources, it's the fact that he was born before the Nords, Bretons, Redguards, and Imperials were around.

Tiber Septim was born centuries after the last ship of aAmorans arrived to Tamriel.

By that time, the Atmoras had already become the Nords, and its most likely he was a Nord, although, he could have possibly been a Breton.

Tiber Septim was born in the late second era, and the Nords, Bretons, and Imperials had been around since the First Era.

He was most likely a Nord. That's all there is to it.

There is no proof of his race one way or another, but since he is widely considered to have been a Nord, that gives Nords a 1-0 over Bretons who are the next most likely race.

Atmoran? Ha.

Most likely a Nord from High Rock, but a Breton sounds plausible too.

He was a light-skinned human born in High Rock and accepted among the Nords as one of them. So, in my view, most likely a High Rock born Nord or a Breton with some fairly recent Nordic ancestry(like a Nord father and Breton mother).

If Tiber Septim came after Imperials existed and the Septim line is Imperials... wouldn't he be Imperial?

No not necessarily, the Septim bloodline could have had Nord or Breton roots and married into the Imperial culture centuries ago since the capital is in Cyrodill and now be indistinguishable from the Imperial 'race'. "Imperials" would naturally seem to form the bulk of the nobility there and it would be common for the Septim dynasty to marry into those blood lines.

Race is inherited from the mother. If you take a look at the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Septim_Dynasty, you'll notice that the entire Septim dynasty except Pelagius I is descended not from Tiber, but from his brother and an unknown woman - many other unknown women appear later, and at one point the straight line is broken and the throne goes to a cousin. It's impossible to read Tiber's race from this.

According to the Pocket Guide to the Empire, Talos/Tiber Septim was born in Atmora, raised in Skyrim. However, he's believed to be Nordic, not Atmoran.

I take the Arcturian Heresy and the

Ghost of Old Hroldan, who lends credibility to it by mistaking you for Hjalti,
over the PGE every time. I think it is fair to conclude he was from High Rock and not Atmora or even Skyrim.

The Nords followed him because they saw him use the thu'um. That doesn't mean he's not a Nord, but he doesn't have to be, either.

"Tiber Septim, Talos, the Dragonborn, Heir to the Seat of Sundered Kings, is the greatest hero-god of Mankind, and worshipped as the protector and patron of just rulership and civil society. Tiber Septim conquered all of Tamriel and ushered in the Third Era and the Third Empire. In his aspect of Ysmir, 'Dragon of the North,' Tiber Septim is also invoked as the patron of questing heroes."

This is his official description and although his race hasn't been officially declared, he is most likely a Nord

Being born in High Rock doesn't mean you're a Breton, that would be like an Orc born in a Skyrim stronghold being called a Nord.

Also does the name Hjalti Early-Beard really sound Breton to you? That's very much a Nord name.

Yeah, I found it. It's the same as in Varietes of Faith, only with added last sentence. It doesn't help us decide what race he was though.

Hjalti Early-Beard sounds Nordic, but he could also be a mixed race - for example a Breton with a Nord father, which would explain his name. It's a possibility, but I don't think we should overcomplicate this. I don't think Bretons ever claimed Tiber was one of them?

true, it's one of those things that they leave open to debate and personal decision as with much of the lore in game. I believe that he's Nord but there's no proof that he's not a Breton either even though I don't remember reading anything about them claiming him.

All the stories that I've read also name him as Talos, even the Arcturian Heresy that says he's Hjalti Early-Beard from High Rock.

Hmmm, lets see.

Born in High Rock with a Nordic name. Takes an Imperial name upon capturing the Ruby Throne.

What race was Tiber Septim really? His race is whatever the three Nedic races need or want it to be. He's a Breordial.
