Time based crash - post FWE upgrade

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 6:25 am

(Apologies if this post belongs elsewhere. Please feel free to move this into the FWE thread when the next one is created)
[EDIT: This is now solved! seems to be related to Companion Core in Robco Certified]

I experience consistent crashes at a certian time of day, since upgrading to the new version of FWE.

Mainly I am running the FWE-recommened mods with the FOIP packages (Load order is spoilered below)

Things seemed fine until a couple of hours after doing the FWE upgrade.
(I had upgraded MMM previous to that without issues.)

Then at 4:45, at 11/17/77, I get consistent CTD's.
First I'm thinking that it is related to incompatible Chem or critter-Food bonuses between the two versions, but the dispellAllSpells console command doesnt seem to help with that, and I havent found any helpful log files.

One thing I avoided doing post-install was waiting for a cell reset - but i figured that wasnt a big deal since I had a recent save of fresh cells from doing the MMM upgrade, and figured I could load from there and wait if i really had to. .... But it turns out that waiting in that room ALSO causes a crash.
Even loading an old save in a basemant in Tranquility Lane gives me a CTD when waiting!

And now I also get the same crashes when i uninstall FWE + MMM and try the previous versions!
(If I try playing with too many unloaded modules, often the saves dont even load)

New games seem to work OK, but I was really close to finishing my first playthru and dont want to start over again :(

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Even loading an old save in a basemant in Tranquility Lane gives me a CTD when waiting!

you mean- you in the Tranquility Lane main quest now?
I recommend you to reinstall old version of FWE, finish this quest, return back to your home and make upgrade here.
You must have PROPER upgrade. No matter you don't reinstall MMM, if you use FWE+MMM, you must make proper upgrade each time when you make upgrade to MMM or FWE.

One thing I avoided doing post-install was waiting for a cell reset - but i figured that wasnt a big deal

You are wrong, and your crash at 4:45 (AM?) tell me this. You have night/morning switch, when respawn usually occur. You must wait in the safe place, such as Megaton or Tenpenny house, which isolated from all NPC, except companions, but better- from all NPC. And you must wait in interior cell, truly isolated from exterior area, Tranquility Lane don't have such cells.

I'm not in Tranquility Lane now, I just loaded an old save in there to see if i could deduct the possibility of NPC spawns from the problem. ( when I first saw the issue I was fast traveling from Shalebridge to Megaton)

crash is at 4:42 PM, I should have said...

Im pretty sure I tried loading a save from the upper interior floor of one of the satelite tracking stations, with the previous FWE, and waited there, but I got a CTD while waiting.
Guess I should try again, though I was hoping for less time-consuming and more promising options...

I always though it was strange the the installation steps have you waiting AFTER doing the upgrade and not before or both.

I'm sorry for your troubles, but to tell the truth, even MMM- type upgrade procedure can help not always. New game- often can be one only solution for such types of troubles.
I will make one example. The whole upgrade procedure based on the following facts:
1. All enemies in the visited areas was killed
2. If during your travels you opened some spawn points- they will be visited and cleared.
If you will fulfill all of this- you are almost safe. This mean all killed monsters will be properly respawned anew, and all non-visited areas will not have monsters generated.
If some of the monsters still be alive, it will be from old FWE/MMM, they will not respawn properly and it can raise all sorts of troubles.

I always though it was strange the the installation steps have you waiting AFTER doing the upgrade and not before or both.

With MMM you need full upgrade procedure, with waiting before and after. New MMM must be installed on clear game, because it always change spawn methods, characteristics of template- type creatures and such things. FWE don't make such radical changes, so full upgrade procedure often not needed. But you can do this, to be safe.

crash is at 4:42 PM, I should have said...

This mean you are at day/evening transition. I don't have experience at this time of the day, but crash at one time of the day tell me you have spawn generation issue. This is most worst case, as I can tell.
Sorry, I'm not big helper in MMM and spawn things, but I spend many time in MMM testings and all what I told you- from my own experience and from my own troubles.

I have had the same problem before and after upgrading FWE, but I don't use MMM for my current playthrough. I sometimes fix it by disabling some mods, though I can't really say the cause of it. I have disabled an older version of Companion Core along with its realated mods and that fixed it. I don't think its these mods per se. Its just how it interacts with what mods I already have going.

I even had this same CTD at a certain time problem in Morrowind once while waiting for my Hlaalu manor to be built.

Fixed !!!

I had just removed FWE and the related FOIP's when I noticed your post, so I went ahead and disabled Robco (which includes companion core), which was bugged anyway.
(couldnt get the newer perks to recruit anything but protectrons).

I re-enabled the FWE + FOIP patches, and immediately- no more crashes!!

Thanks so much to Delamer and Dustin81 for the prompt and informative replies!

(PS,
Anyone know of a script that allows you to wait/sleep for multiple days instead of just hours?)

You can sleep indefinitely by opening the console while sleeping. I'm not sure if there are any negative consequences from doing it though (none so far for me).

With DarnUI- you can
Find Data, Menus, Prefabs, DUIF3Settings.xml
Open it with any text editor
Find Sleep/wait menu
Change hours here
