Time Bombs, they do have a use.

Post » Mon Jun 29, 2009 11:17 am

The use is to sell them. A time bomb is worth 748 caps. They require 5 sticks of dynamite (125 caps), 1 egg timer (1 cap), and 1 duct tape (7 caps) - forget if they need scrap electronics; still that is only another cap. So build them and sell them if you have enough weapon repair kits. Other than that, they are not worth making. :hubbahubba:

Besides, most of that stuff you find for free.

Yes I know you need a 50 explosives, but I like blowing things up. Also a 30 explosives with comprehension and a magazine will let you make them too.

I forget what a bottle cap mine is worth.

I can think of ONE place they'd be extremely useful. Might be spoiler-iffic, though.

The point was finding something useful about the time bomb. There was a post about how useless they are. Other than selling them, I have no use for them.

There's one quest in particular that either a time bomb, C4 with a remote detonator, or a trail of frag mines is handy for.

I used it at one point during the Main Story. Yet to figure out a use otherwise, minus selling and Shady Sands shuffle.

Do tell, what is that quest, and what is the Shady Sands Shuffle. I did figure out it would be useful at one point in Vault 22.

I'm so glad that instead of getting a useful weapon, molotov cocktails for example, we got a junk weapon to craft and sell.

Who am i kidding it is just too easy to beat up on explosives, but when I start a new character, I'm sure it will be explosives.

I use a long fuse dynamite for that and run for it works every time.

Its the quest where you have to set off gas in Vault 22. I personally use a long fuse dynamite since I dont even waste time with building the time bombs. Its like the powder charge I dont even mess with them I just sell the junk. The Shady Sands Shuffle atleast I see it refered to it is pickpocking someone and putting a live frag grenade, dynamite, C-4, Timebomb, or any explosive that will blow them up. It is fun to do but sneek skill needs to be high to have a good success rate. Otherwise you get caught a fair amount of time.

Only thing I found real useful is the bottlecap mine but I dont know if it will still blow the leg off a deathclaw with one hit like in FO3 or not and I am not going to experiment to find out. last time I went up against one I ended up getting gang [censored] by 6 of them at once out of no wheres.

on the vault 22 gas quest, i just used a regular frag grenade from a room next to it and shut the door before it went off :D was rather happy with the timing!

I've had the door closure control vanish. svcks. Once it reappeared during the dying animation. Rage.

That's kind of sad. That is what they were used for in the series originally. What's also kind of sad (to me), is that the game (perhaps even as an oversight) allowed the PC to pickpocket/place a love bomb in someone's pocket, but the thief had to be good, and they had to have armed it previously.

Fallout 3 takes this interesting quirk, and makes it an automated feature that is difficult to miss, and removes the ability of the player to give grenades to someone that won't barter.

I tried that on my first play through it didnt work. I closed the door but I still ended up killed. I had to throw the long fuse dynamite then run through that door into the caves to get away from the blast.

I dont know if its a bug that has since been fixed now or what but when I did it pretty much the first week I had the game that didnt work for me its like the explosion/fire went right through the closed door.
