Time on customization

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 1:27 am

Did anyone else spend forever AND eternity creating their character and are now wearing a helmet or face covering hood or something else hiding their face? I spent hours starting new game after new game to get my character perfect and he has two sets of armor. Full daedric and full Nightingale. Both hide his face. I could care less, but I find it kind of funny and ironic. Has anyone else in the forum done this? Thanks, forum.

Well, being this an offline game (not MMO or co-op I mean), the only purpose of character customization is for your own enjoyment, so you can say to your self: "Hey, that's me! Look at me, look look look.. yeah.. that's me".

I play my game on first person view so I don't care much about how my armor or character looks 95% of time. BUT I sometimes also like to switch for a few seconds to third person view and watch it walking.

The only time I look at it for a small while (and apply that "that's me" thing) is when sitting on a tabern, listening to music, with normal clothes and no weapons, so I have no problem there with helmets.

Actually, no. I like to see my characters faces. Seeing a character's face helps me roleplay that character. I tend to play characters who are very different than I am and visual clues like race, gender, facial appearance, are very helpful in focusing my attention on the character and away from merely playing as myself. None of my characters have worn helmets in Elder Scrolls games, or, actually, any other game that featured helmets.

I spend no time at all on customisation, I always just accept the look as is, once I've decided on stuff that actually makes any difference. Just not into all that Mii stuff.

Actually, no. This is one of the reasons why none of my characters have ever worn helmets in games. I like to see my characters faces. Seeing my character's faces helps me roleplay them. I tend to play characters who are very different than I am, personality-wise, and visual clues like race, gender, facial appearance, are very helpful in focusing my attention on the characters and steering me away from merely playing as myself.

Same here, but now I usually have atleast an enchanted circlet and I haven't found a decent color hood. The hoods seem to be all nasty grey and brown.

It is about you feeling like your character looks good. That is all you really need.

I agree with the role-playing aspect. A character's appearance is very important for creating and sustaining immersion. That said, I wear helmets all the time when I'm adventuring and take them off when I'm hanging out in the holds.

As far as spending a bazillion years customizing characters goes: I like customizing characters so much that I create new characters that I don't even intend to play just so I can see what I come up with. I think that's even weirder.

I make a habit of removing my helm/hood for towns as well. :3

Circlets are stylish and its still very easy to hit the armor cap with them on.

More importantly, my character was made with CBBE, and she looks like a DDD supermodel. Very dissapointing to put any armor on at all!

I spend too long on it. Bad habit I picked up from playing too much City of Heroes.

Spent 10 minutes picking a facial tattoo only to wear Nightingale and spend 95% of my time in first person.

What a dork. lol

I spend just a minute picking a good preset and then adjusting the eyes, hair, and scars.

I don't understand people's problems with face-creation. Even if you do hide it under a helm.

It's not so muc that "I put a lot of effort into making my face look right" as much as putting effort into making my face look not wrong. I don't like any of the presets in Skyrim, or any other RPG for that matter: There's always something I don't like, or wish I could draw from another face type: Maybe I prefer the jaw from one face, hairstyle from another, nose from a third, and cheeks from a fourth? Or I like all of one face, but don't like the nose or skin tone?

Even if I never see it, I know it's there. And, under my helm, I want to look like a rugged warrior, not Fishlips McGee.

I spent about an hour on mine initially, and I've been tweaking him regularly ever since. I only wear a helmet in actual combat situations (I equip it every time I have to fight), other than that I walk around without head gear, just like you would if you actually had to RP this. I enjoy that, and I enjoy tweaking him, changing his hair and beard etc. I roleplay him like that too. If I've been in the wilderness for some time I'll change to a full beard, and then he'll see a barber when he gets back to a city and have it trimmed =)
