Time in Nirn

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 5:01 am

I'm Vedaa, but I changed my name to tes96 (the year I started playing TES).

Uhm, why don't we just ask the Bethesda Team? They'll give us one answer, then we can post that answer in this thread and then voila, we'll have our solid answer.

Does the Merethic Era start at 0 and then go up to 2500, which marks its end? Or does is it the other way around?

Or does is it the other way around?

Yes.

As the Timeline says: "The Merethic Era was figured by early Nord scholars as a series of years numbered in reverse order backward from the their 'beginning of time' -- the founding of the Camoran Dynasty, recorded as Year One of the First Era."

No.

Its counted backwards, starting at 2500...

Edit: blasted, a minute slow, :prod:

This is the second time you've said that but really it doesn't work that way and I know I for one don't want it to be as simple as that... especially when we already know the answer...

Time isn't exactly linear nowadays. It's constantly getting pauses, resumed, sent back to a previous time, and sometimes even forward.

This has obvosy been said already but time in Nirn is linear. This is proven when Dragon breaks happen, whereas time in Nirn is not linear
If you are not a total lore nerd and don't know about dragon breaks, than you can make an assumption on the subject based on the fact that men worship a time god.

Me'thinks they call it a "dragon break" because it's the breaking of the dragon god of time, Akatosh.

You just contradicted yourself when you wrote: "time in Nirn is linear" in the first sentence and then writing in the second sentence: "whereas time in Nirn is not linear", unless that was a typo.

My English might be lacking, but I don't think it was a typo or mistake at all. Neither was it a contradiction: What he said was that it is proven that time is linear during Dragon Breaks, because at those times time is not linear.

These are neither constant nor common. I can't recall a time when it's been paused, sent back to a previous time or sent into the future. I'm not sure how it's even possible for time to do that. People, yes, like Pelinal's armour and probably Pelinal himself reputedly being from a future time. Pauses wouldn't really make sense, since we notice time by its motion. Dragonbreaks ae the nonlinearity of time, which is a different thing entirely.

He meant "where" not "whereas". "dragonbreaks, where time is not linear."

I wasn't actually referring to that, I was talking about pausing and saving. A bit of my usual fourth wall-breaking.
