Time Zones and the Clocks

Post » Tue Apr 14, 2009 4:42 am

Did the Fallout universe abolish time zones?

In Fallout 3, the clocks are all stopped at the same time as each other, ostensibly due to the EMP from nuclear bombs burning out their circuitry-- but in New Vegas, the clocks are ALSO all stopped at the same time as each other, and the same time as the Washington, D.C. clocks. In our own universe, Las Vegas is in Pacific Time; D.C. is in Eastern time. Shouldn't the stopped clocks be four hours apart? (Of course, this doesn't take into account the time it took for the bombs to arrive...)

They reused texture assets

Portals to Tamriel rendered Time Zones moot.

You have a point. Though I bet Obsidian didn't track every single detail they put into this game. Realism doesn't mattet to them.

Well, yes, that was obvious-- but why didn't *someone* think about this and make a new texture for it?

I wonder if that could be fixed in an official patch for FONV. Those tiny details really can detract from the immersion when you notice them.

I know, what makes no sense to me is, they don't retexture the clocks, yet they retexture the V101 notice board to read V21.

Obsidian sure knows how to pick it's moment's.

I know that clocks are usually set to 10:10 when displayed in a store to be sold, but that is for leaving the most space for advertising on a handed clock. Also, the EMPs from the bombs were supposed to stop all the clocks at the same time.

However it would have been nice if they had moved the hour hand for this game.

Three hours not four . . . so maybe the attacks rippled across the timezones, stopping the clocks at the same time in each timezone . . . except "the war was over in two hours" and "the west coast got hit first." Oh well. "Continuity!!!"

All the clocks in Fallout 3 did not stop at the same time. Maybe they intended it to be that way, but you can find a few different times on the clocks. Have not paid enough attention to the NV clocks to comment.

Its a minor oversite. Does not mean the times zones were gone in Fallout.

On a side note:

Is there an offically stated time as to when the Great War began? I've heard "early morning hours" but thats about it.

I think the majority of clocks stopped at 9:47 am, but some stopped at other times. The wrist watch is Tranquility Lane reportedly reads 2:55, and some other clocks read 11:16. Also saw someone say a clock in Fort Independence reads 5:45. Those are all from Fallout 3 though. I'm guessing some of those are also found in NV.
