Not for me, every once in a while I like to make completely weird and random things up for the Ra Gada.
Besides fleshing out things like Tribes, the Government and culture is based off of what they had already shared with us in Redguard lore. Old Yokudan Government was always Elden Yokeda ruling over the Yokeda who were his vassals. I think so far we've done a great job at keeping Redguard culture bizarre and true enough to its original designs, even when we had to fill in where there was no information before. Besides that I don't think there was really too much of specific cultures used to influence anything.
And I do agree with you on the subject of basing things solely off of real life history. Its no secret the majority of IBT members are fans of history and it really shows to the point where exact scenarios from history are often used for plot inspirations. I still feel its not impossible to just make things up using your own creativity or branching off established TES lore instead. However I do feel its too far in the Timeline to use only TES lore and not events from the timeline if that was what you originally suggested.
I wasn't suggesting we change anything established, but I am hoping that we tone down the outside influences some what in any RP's to follow. Personally, I didn't really study anything other than medieval England/Guy Fawkes/Oliver Cromwell/Henry the 8th and his protestant homeboys in school and high school, after that it was all WWI and WWII. I've never had a personal interest in studying History as a hobby, so for some one like me, the stuff in the Timeline can be very very hard to follow which leads to me having to read countless wikepedia articles just to keep up, which stops me being productive in terms of posting.
Which is the entire reason I opted to RP as the Knight Commander, because the British Crusades where about the only thing I do remember studying from History.
But my experience with Asian/Chinese and Mongolian warfare? Yeah, I played Dynasty warriors one two and three, that's about it.
I'm sure a few other members have the same issues, and I can't help but think that sometimes (don't call me out on this one though, I'm not saying always) that the reason we get alot of Side story arcs and mini adventures within the RP is that alot of people don't understand what's happening in the main RP on a cultural/historical/warfare level. Maybe I'm wrong, as I said it's just a suspicion.
