In Times of War, Everyone Is Called To Fight...

..even the women. My boyfriend and I can't wait for Brink. We love to play together, and we have it preordered. However, we haven't seen one screen or video of girl characters. What gives? The developers make a big point to say that, in Brink, you are not just a generic protagonist - there is a slew of customization options for your character designed so that we can create a character that we feel reflects us. How can us girl gamers create a character that represents us if there are no female characters to choose from? If there are, then awesome and I can't help but think they should have advertised it. If there aren't any female characters, I would love at least some DLC so I can create a character I can truly identify with. Maybe if we speak loudly enough, Bethesda will hear us. I think it's silly that, in this day and age, we still have to be males in games like this. So, even if you're not a girl gamer, let's hear what you have to say on the subject of female representation. Would you like to see it in Brink? No? Don't care?

I've heard word from the developers that they took it out due to time constraints. Kind of crap, but not much we can do.

I'd also heard word that they plan on releasing DLC in the future, but have not said whether that's paid or free. It's very possible they might patch in female avatars soon, since they considered working on it before.

I see no reason for them to not introduce female character models in the future through DLC. I believe, I can't remember if the mighty Wedgewood said it or someone else, but there were constraints that kept them from making female characters available. Once the game is released that will give them time to work on things that they can implement into the game. I would imagine that adding female character mods is high on their list although it is a bit sad that the option is not available from the beginning.

I think the majority of us would like that,to see female chars in it.In most fantasy MMO RPG's most guys crate female chars...another issue but my point is that this is one of the first things the Devs answered as to why : http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1113952-brink-faq/

Q: Will there be female characters in Brink?
A: In short: no. Like all developers, Splash Damage faced physical limits on what they could put into the game and had to make the "incredibly tough" choice between massively reducing the variety and quality of character customization in order to make room for new models/animations for female characters, or to keep to their vision of "deep and varied" character creation by focusing only male customization and make that the best they possibly can. "This was a very, very hard decision for us to make", Ham explains, "but we feel that it was the right one for the overall quality of the game."

If there is a possibility they can overcone it even with a free DLC it would be great though.

Who cares? It really brings no gameplay difference to the game. If it's that big of a problem I'm sure they will add female characters to DLC's.

End this thread..

If I had a dollar for evertime one of these showed up I could pay of the United States national debt......

I would like to see femal characters as well but SD didn't put them in because it would limit some of the customization. They may add them in Brink 2 but most likely not in DLC.

Guy gamer supporting inclusion of females.

I don't think it's a huge failure when you consider the amount of customisation they've crammed into the game, but it would be nice to have that little bit more.

Yes this is the correct quote but honestly those time constraints were time constraints they put on themselves to abide by a thirdly rolled back release date. From a technical standpoint they COULD have done it, just not by release. So I am relatively confident that female character models (even my Heavy Russian dame Hetriska and her chaingun Peotrek) will be coming as some sort of DLC in the future. The outcry to have it included almost rivalled that of the lack of Splitscreen.

I can see why some people would be disappointed, but in the scheme of the things it really isn't a big deal. Female models CAN and most likely WILL be added.

I just don't want to see people get all upset about it. I remember one thread where a girl threw a complete tantrum over the matter... so stupid. I'm a guy, and I don't make female archetypes in games (not sure why guys do that anyways, but whatever) but in all fairness they really SHOULD be added.

There came a time down the development road when splash damage had to make a difficult decision: Include female avatars and half the number of aesthetic customization options, or just include male avatars and keep the number of aesthetic options. I understand that female gamers also want to be represented in a game, but unfortunately that would have come at the cost of individuality as well. I wish that there was some magical solution to this, but there isn't really anyway for them to do both.

As much as I would like them to do so, the odds of them including female characters as DLC is extremely slim. It's not impossible, but I wouldn't hold my breath. It's much, much harder to do than to make, say, a couple dozen new jackets and some maps. They would have to take all of the current customization options and essentially double them while at the same time tweaking them for proper female-ness. Huge strain. Not likely to happen, unfortunately.

Rather, I would make sure that they don't forget their promise to make female characters one of their top priorities in BRIINK, which I would support by purchasing BRINK.

I think if u replace these threads with the ones having reference to CoD and the likes would be more political correct :)

Also this is a girls opinion and since they are a minority it's to let them know they are heard of,no?
In this situation though is well explained by the Devs,so it feels hard to be done.

And it doesn't matter that has no gameplay difference,it represents a part of the community, simple put, imagine the opposite.

He said "Physical limits" not "time constraints"

There's not enough space to work with on a DVD.

Maybe PS3 secretly gets exclusive access to females because Blur-Ray holds more data? (kidding, kidding...)

I think what would be a cool feature to actually make a difference between male/female if it were to be added; make the females move quicker and the males able to climb faster.

Like I said in two other threads (both closed)

Right, Important Life Lesson here: Women =/= Walking briasts.

Problem here is that most people think otherwise, primarily when creating movies and video games. Take a look at any well-advertised game. All the women you see are thin enough to be wireframes and have the world's biggest hourglass shape.

I'm not entirely justifed in saying this, being male, but I'd rather have no women rather than the "Women are only here for six appeal" alternative.

Oh, I do love having made that post. I'll use it everywhere where deemed necessary.

If there were female characters they'd all look like strippers. These sorts of things are pretty predictable when you can choose your gender in a game.. Do I make my male guy look like a bad ass or should I make my chick character be a total distraction for the enemy team? Ugh.

Most people I've encountered in games (such as Soul Calibur 4, Saints Row 2, etc.) where you could customize a female character, majority were all stripped down to their underwear for their player's viewing pleasure. I know that BRINK is a first person game but these sorts of things are still annoying for the people that actually do get to look at your character.

Ok,as u said it is an FPS,u are fighting all the time,u can't strip your char,at least not in sight of enemies.I don't see it as a valid argument sry.
On the other hand the game has a story,in this story has women that in game are not represented,so it's already a con for the ones RP'ing.

Again,is a technical issue and we understand, further more this is how a community asks something, shows how much it wants something.
