Tips for character customization for a noob?

Post » Tue Jan 07, 2014 12:25 pm

Soooo essentially I borrowed skyrim from a friend (first time elder scrolls player) and loved it. I've been watching trailers for ESO and am thinking that I am going to buy it. However, once I create my character I am not the type of person that would want to go through the creation of another, or even create a second character for a different style.

Therefore, I come to the veteran players of TSE for help. I am going to try and describe the things I think I'd like to do in a game like this and let you... paint an image of what I should try and do with my character in game. Feel free to offer any tips or advice on what would be on foremost, the most effective character (race, class type, weapon/armor choices, perks, or whatever) for my needs, but also that stays true to what would bring me the most enjoyment. Thanks in advance!

Things I'd like to incorporate (in no particular order):

-I enjoy sniping people with a bow

-I enjoy using magic, but not so much as to make my character weak with physical weapons, so I guess more as a supplement

-I think dual wielding would be badass, but I'm not sure what advantages/disadvantages that has over, say, 2 handed weapons or a sword and shield

-Yes, I do enjoy the occasional Ezio Auditore sneak up and assassinate some [censored]es type style here and there, but again, I do not want to make my character weak PvP, because you can bet that:

-I like to participate in PvP and alliance related activities

-I'll be any class if you think it would benefit me most, but for some reason I don't like watching myself play as classes like argonian, khajit, or orc. Just doesn't ring true to me

Thats all I can really think of for now. If these skills wouldn't really work that well together, by all means let me know because my primary goal is to [censored] [censored] up. Thanks again and happy new year!

You could have one set up for your stealth/archer style, get the sneak attack in there and take enemies down from range.

And you could have a second set up for duel wield, if enemies get close to you you could switch to this and fight them.

The magic will more than likely come from your class skill line or the Mages Guild skill line, assuming you join the MG.

It does sound like the Nightblade would best suit your style, but here, feel free to take a look at the class, weapon and armour skill lines here.

http://tamrielfoundry.com/weapons/

(that's weapon skill lines, go to Game Info tab and you'll see all the other skill lines currently available for show).

And happy new year

Let the char make him / her self

What I mean, choose an arch type that best sound like the most fun to you and use as a blank template. Just play the char in a fun way, If your see a cool weapon to use, use it. The more you used a weapon, spell or armor, better you get at it. Don't worry about min / max or power level, 1st char should be about having fun and learning the game. After few hundred hours when your 1st char is retried or semi retried, make a 2nd char and by then you know the ESO well enough to fine tune one's build.

This how I play a TES game. My nature is worry about stats and power playing, but that way is not very fun to me -- I get burn out very quickly with worrying about all the small details. It is far better to have fun with one's char.

It's the Elder Scrolls, in a [censored] MMO! Just do whatever the hell you want, whenever the hell you want, and you'll end up with a character you will think is perfect.

In ESO, skills come in skill lines that come from various sources. Your class is responsible for three, but your weapon, armor, race and various other gameplay choices also grant skill lines.

This is probably actually the most complete current listing of skill lines (TF doesn't have ALL the lines): http://eldersouls.com/elder-scrolls-online/skills

I'd recommend browsing that and seeing what appeals

So, if you want bow skills, you'll just want to use a bow... can do that as any class. You can have two weapon setups (after level 15 I think), with separate skills assigned for each, so you can swap between bow skills and your dual daggers or whatever. And any class can sneak, but for more advanced stealth and dual wield, you would want the Nightblade class. If the bow is your primary weapon, you might want to consider Bosmer as a race... they get advantages to bow skills. There's some magic (the "Shadow" line) in Nightblade too.

Note though that the race you pick determines what Alliance you play in, which in turn determines which realm you have available for questing from levels 1-50, and which "team" you play on in PvP... so you might want to pick an Alliance and then pick a race

Any class should be useful in PvP, and in fact that activity comes with its own skill lines, as you can see

So, based on what you said about your playstyle, I'd recommend a bow and dual-dagger-using Bosmer nightblade... something that quite a lot of people have said they are going to be playing  But, like I said, look through the list and see what appeals!

Nice, I didn't know all the guild, racial and pvp skill lines had been released as well, thanks for linking that.

Not all, but some of them. I'm anolyzing them since days / weeks.

Some very nice ideas, some parts I'm missing or at least I've expected them together with a specific skill line, but ok.

The term, I believe, actually comes from an early full-loot MMO (UO?) where boots were valuable enough that a common practice was to wait near low-level spawn points and farm new players for them. People started saying that they were gonna go get some new boots or 'noobs', and the name stuck.

They've not. That's leaked info. They tend to frown on that here.
