Would invisibility or chameleon help?

I used Chameleon, and got myself up to 75% Chameleon and went for it. Course, I have a 100 sneak skill. Take off your footwear, you'd be surprised how much this does. I used a summons: the Daedroth, as a distraction. Not for battle mind you, but I was able to hide behind him.

I did it with a lot of invisibility potions, and a lot of patience.

Invisibility will work, as no one can know where you are, but if unavailable, keep to the shadows. That has always worked for me.
