Tips for Fallout Shelter

Post » Sun Feb 14, 2016 6:18 am

Hey guys.

For some reason, I just can't seem to get a good Fallout Shelter going.

I keep running out of resources too early in the game.

Had to restart a new vault several times now.

Whats the best way to get a vault started properly till I get 20 dwellers.

Thanks.

It has been awhile since i have been that low but expand slowly ... you didn't say which resource you are running out of that is causing your vault to fail. I published some hints in other threads on Deathclaws but here are a few more targeted at the low end player:

- build at least one of each room as soon as you are able (keep them at level 1 for awhile as a level 1 room results in less powerful fires, radroaches, and molerats ... a single room is better than no room ... go double when you can ... triple when your money permits ... don't upgrade any rooms except key ones until mid game

- make your pregnant dwellers work (they don't need to stay in the living quarters while they wait to deliver the bun in their oven) ... don't put all pregnant women in the same room as they will run if anything happens (spread them out in all the rooms)

- rush rooms a lot at the start (especially if you have level 1 rooms so the impact of failure is lower) ... rushing give you free experience and caps plus the extra resources

- be careful where you put living quarters as they are more difficult to move around, but build whatever rooms you need ... if you need extra water build an extra room (you can always demolish it later)

- keep at least one dweller exploring wasteland as much as possible (it is the best way to get free caps, free weapons, and free outfits) ... work your way up to keeping a dweller out for extended runs once you get sufficient weapons and outfits for all dwellers ... key timed events occur at 20, 30, and 60 hours ... the benefit of staying out past 60 is minimal until the end game

- complete reasonable objectives to get caps and lunchboxes ... kill unreasonable objectives using the daily skip one objective

Hope those are helpful. If you have more specific issues I could respond more specifically :D

One additional item, it is more of a midgame strategy though:

Use the SPECIAL enhancement rooms as soon as they are available ... the sooner you start building stats the sooner you will have all 10s ... I takes about a week to take one dweller from a 1 to a 10 (of course you can pull them out sooner than that when you need them and put them back later) ... higher primary stats for a room give you a quicker turn time for the resource and a lower failure rate ... outfits will take your stats above 10 (although it doesn't visibly show that) ... resource rooms with above 10 stats can be rushed the first time for 0% failure (STIM rooms can usually go twice in succession with 0% failure) ... All of the stats have different benefits:

Strength - needed for the power rooms and seems to help with combat a little

Perception - mostly for water production ... there is probably some limited benefit for exploration but it can be one of the lower priority stats

Endurance - needed for the Nuka Cola plant ... also critical for hitpoints in exploration and combat

Charisma - needed for radio room and quicker breeding ... seems to affect some of the Wasteland encounters where you might get additional Caps or avoid a few conflicts

Intelligence - needed for STIM production and Radaway production ... might have some minor impact on exploration ... as long as you have at least one good dweller for STIM production and Radaway production you can do this one last as well

Agility - needed for food rooms ... might impact combat reducing damage in some encounters

Luck - not needed specifically for any room ... helps you get the resource bonus of Caps when you collect resources ... has a massive impact on your caps in the wasteland

I focused my early enhancement on Strength, Endurance, and Luck

Have fun :fallout:
