Tips for installing texture overhaul mods?

Post » Wed Mar 31, 2010 7:56 am

Hello, I am new to the Bethesda forums and I am just wondering how to get texture mods to work properly in Morrowind.

I am attempting to get http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=2915 to work in my copy of the game, but when I launch the game, I only see the vanilla textures.
I'm pretty sure that I have all the files extracted to the proper folders, what could I be doing wrong?
Oh, and the sun seems to have gone out(it's black, but I've heard this is an OS problem, any fixes?).

Thanks in advance.

It may be worth double checking where you have installed the textures.

They need to go in Data Files/Textures (the texture part is obvious :P) You need to extract the textures from the zip folder. You wll need a program such as 7-zip for opening certain compressed folders. (just ncase you didnt know) Would you mind posting maybe a screenshots of where you have extracted the files?

And i don't know about the black sun, never had that problem myself

Most common errors are dropping the zipped file as is without unzipping, having a "Data Files" folder inside "Data Files" or a "Textures" folder inside "Textures".

For the black sun, it's a known issue with some ATI cards. There are two solutions in the Hardware & Software forum's http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/29-known-issues-and-resolutions/ (last one in the list).

I already knew about what I needed to unzip the files and stuff, I'm just not used to installing mods maually(OBMM spoiled me, lol)

All the files are there...
Hmm.

Also, is it possible to post thumbnails for images, or do they have to be links?

Yeah, they have to be links.

Did you buy Morrowind through Steam? If so, there's an issue with the files' date that's mentionned http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1091949-better-bodies-issue.

No, I got the GotY edition from Amazon.

Edit: I already got a mod that's supposed to fix the sun, but it's also not working. It's probably because it is also a texture file.

Umm.... youv just added them to the wrong folder mate. They need to be inside a folder called "Data Files" with a space, not case sensitive. The folder named textures needs to go into the folder named data files

Try that and then report back

Really?

I was really sure that I did, lol. Should I delete that folder and re-extract?

I would just create a folder called data files and drag what youve already extracted in there. As in drag and drop the textures folder into the newly created folder

EDIT: And why do you hav so many tabs open in firefox :P Surely your not looking at every one of them ha ha

I can't just put it into the Data Files folder that's already there?

Like, merge the folders or whatever?

To answer your question about the tabs, when I'm not playing games, I dwell in the internet.

I usually have a little less, though, about 8 of the tabs I have are because I was trying to get my newly downloaded mods and stuff working.

Yes, put it in the the file that is already there and merge them. You shouldn't have to create a new folder. O.o

I try to always to install every mod manually. I started doing it when i dl'ed mods for oblivion it's really good practice for trouble shooting situations. You can pin point what mod and exactly what mod is causing problems if there is any. A real good rule of thumb when installing mods manually is to just look at what files it's adding. Then look at your data files folders to see if they are similar and it makes sense. When installing mods manually don't expect everything to make perfect sense. I've dl'ed mods and who ever created the mod did a very bad job of organizing the folders for an easy installation. Don't know if that makes any sense. Just be aware of what folders are being edited.
