Tips on playing a "Han Solo" character?

Post » Sat Feb 27, 2016 12:41 am

Hi all, I've recently started a toon that was "brought over" by SWTOR MMO who was a Scoundrel in that game, similar to the Han Solo in the movies.

Can't remember the exact stats, but she has high amount of Luck and Agility, Perception and Charisma comes next, leaving STR/END/INT at 1, which now feels a little bit off since she can't mod energy weapons and is not that decent with computers.

Running a gunslinger build and attempting to focus on just energy pistols, probably carrying three for different ranges.

Would love to hear what would you have done different and how would you play said character?

I wouldn't be able to help you on that, I don't like star wars. SW is irrelevant for me, I havent seen the last movie yet and I am not even much interested in it. I think the universe of Fallout is a lot more interesting than SW.

I find it hilarous when people bash Beth writting but then they proceed to have orgisms over the lame ass dialogues of those overrated and corny as [censored] movies. When it comes to writing you can't get more basic than SW.

dunno, I never make characters based on other people's characters. I usually just look at the theme at the start of the game, make someone fitting and build their backstory and such as I progress through the game.

As far as Solo-like character goes, I wonder if they would join any faction. Not many factions for Bounty hunters there...

Dude, nobody cares about your opinions on SW. Try to stay on-topic.

Call him Harrison Ford, fail to get to space, and break a leg...

Gunslinger certainly sounds right, and definitely a lot of Charisma to smooth-talk his way out of (some) situations. You probably will want to bump Intelligence up at least enough to mod energy weapons and hack computers (not that Han hacks, but basic knowledge of computers would clearly be present). Even though it helps VATS accuracy, you could probably stand to lose a few points of Perception if you had to --- Han ~has~ run around a corner face-first into a pack of Stormtroopers before, after all. :)

Also, considering how often the Millennium Falcon breaks down after he is "sure" he fixed it, he might not have much in the way of Luck (although I ~would~ get at least enough to get the scrounger-type perks to find more ammo). There aren't many Endurance perks I'd bother with (for this character anyway) so even though Han may be considered "tough" by some, I don't see any point in raising it over 1 (ditto for STR --- he has a giant walking carpet to carry things).

I'm not sure, but I would not be at all surprised if someone already modeled a DH-44 (or whatever it was called) pistol like the blaster Han used in the movies. If you're on PC and don't mind using mods. The "sarcastic/funny" dialog lines should generally fit the character, with some of the aggressive ones thrown in occasionally .

It can be fun to mix genres ---- when I got bored of Fallout: New Vegas, the game was drastically re-invigorated for me by using the Fallout: Who Vegas mod, which combined Doctor Who elements with the New Vegas game. I'm talking actual working Regeneration, working TARDIS "home" with multiple rooms, new crafting, actually capable of fast-traveling to various locations, sonic screwdriver that unlocked things, etc. Clothes from the various incarnations of the Doctor and his companions, etc. They even had complete adventures scripted out including the Weeping Angels (which was amazingly true to the show: if you looked at them, they became immobile and un-attack-able but if you looked away they could move and chase after you).

Han, luckily, can be replicated pretty easily by existing vest combos and I'm sure it would not be hard to make a nearly exact costume via mod. Someone already has Deadpool costume mods out, after all. :)

I'd almost recommend bumping CHA all the way to 10 for Intimidation. You'll no doubt stick with Laser and Plasma Pistols, but Lorenzo's Artifact Gun from the Cabot quests can be pretty effective with the right mods.

Play Fallout NV instead.

Much better gamer, much easier to roleplay as a smuggler/scoundrel.

...Also Sith Empire best Empire.

AGL seems to be a given, but I think Han would be a high LCK character mostly. The term "Solo-luck" is an actual thing in the SW expanded universe.

Key perks would be Gunslinger / Quick Hands / Moving Target (Ep IV charge anyone?) / Gun Fu / Critical Banker / Better Criticals / Grim Reaper's Sprint.

So basically an agile pistol-user who focuses on Crits (call them trick shots).

Get a sock and a magazine.

Wait, it's Han Solo, I guess it would be a glass cannon, relies more on luck and sneak attacks than endurance or strength to finish off the enemies. Basically I guess it's perception and luck above all else, but also decent charisma to talk yourself out of dangerous situation.

Thanks for the input guys, and nice touch on the INT, would have gone for it if not for Idiot Savant (closest I have to a nerf-herder?) for the early levels.

Some of the issues I'm focusing on:

- Companion: Either Danse or Strong, both are tanky but I feel like Danse is just too military for a Smuggler, and Strong is just, savage.

- Weapons: Three modified laser pistols (when I eventually be able to mod them). One for short range that acts as close a shotgun, one with scope for long range sniping and another for VATS-heavy medium range spam.

- Faction: Since I don't use fast-travel, I depended alot on BoS vertibird transport especially to respond to settlement attacks. But as the Danse comment, it feels too military for a smuggler. That, and the Railroad seems like the obvious choice for a Smuggler.

I'd probably have more the further I travel, but these are more or less my top concerns. :/

P/S: I'm for Sith Empire too. (:

Kellogs armor or similar looking, and a 10mm with legendary laser effect, or plasma, make it look as close as you can :D

Win!

But it also reminds of another Harrison Ford character even more. If you wore a Battered Fedora with it (Ballistic Weave enabled) you could have Indiana Solo roaming about the world of Fallout.

Triple win!
