I'm tired of people bringing up CoD

Post » Fri Jan 14, 2011 10:01 am

Well, every thread I read has a comment about CoD and how it wouldn't be good if Brink developers put something from CoD in Brink because it remotely resembles the game. Well the Call of Duty franchise is a very successful one and just because you don't like it doesn't make the game horrible, I agree a lot of things are bad in the franchise, but if they didn't do successful things then people wouldn't keep coming back. It's a habit for people to compare games to CoD because it's the biggest game on PS3 and Xbox 360. I'm not trying to be a CoD fan boy, but I play the games, and most of the people on these forums also play the games, but hate on it because it's such a common thing to see other comments of people hating on the game. If something is taken from CoD and implemented into Brink it's not necessarily a bad thing, there are a lot of things Call of Duty does right, it's mostly just the horrible match making. It just needs to stop with all the hating on CoD it may not be a game you like, but it's the base of FPS games, and what some game developers get there ideas off of, and in my opinion that's how developers learn.

Maybe I'm wrong about some of this, and maybe a lot of you guys will disagree, but I'm sure some feel the same way. Once again I'm not a Call of Duty fan boy, I'm just trying to straighten this out.

I highly disagree it is the base for FPS games , highly.
Anyhow FPS games at the moment are trying to mimic it .
COD took stuff from other games as well. The only reason why people say [censored] about COD's "ideas" being used in other games is because some people who don't like COD think every FPS is trying to be the new COD to make money or some person may think it is unfair to steal the idea from COD. There is many things FPS have remotely the same about not counting you have a gun 99% of the time.
Personally I am sick of the COD hate too , hell the only reason I play it is because my best friend on PSN play it. If there was another FPS with a community for online gaming that was better I would go for it.

It could be in Brink forums, but I'm sure it's compared to more games then just Brink, I'm always in Brink forums though.

COD is extremely popular, it makes sense for people to compare games with something where everyone knows what you're talking about. If I compare Brink to "Uncle Taffy's Shooter Adventure" no one will understand what I'm saying, if I compare it with COD people will understand what my point is. It is not the "base of FPS games" it is just a comparison point. And if you don't like COD, wouldn't it make sense to hope that Brink does not take the same path?

CoD is CoD, Brink is Brink, Battlefield is Battlefield.

Hand in hand, we can game together, don't hate the player because that is lame. Medal of Honor, CoD, or Brink, doesn't really matter 'cause it's just a game. /south park reference

It's pretty much a given that people are going to say that X game borrowed this element from Y game because at this stage of FPS games, almost everything has been done. There's not much left to do to separate the gameplay from X and the gameplay from Y. I don't hate CoD, but I don't love it either. It's just something I play when I get an invite over LIVE, so I'm indifferent to any bias for or against it.

More people hating Call of Duty would be welcome, to me, because I can't stand people bringing it up, either... but in a different way. I can't stand it being constantly talked about as though it were the holy grail of gaming, in my school, every day. I'm tired of the whole FPS fetish the video game genre has been stuck in for... a decade, now? Truly, I can't stand it. I hate shooters, yet they get the spotlight. They come with little to no substance (with multiplayer seemingly meant to be the only actual game mode), have very little difference between them, and over-saturate the market... and Call of Duty is the most overrated of the lot... but I just don't see the appeal in the genre, as whole. They come out with a rehash of the same game every year and people gobble it up. I don't dislike the people who play them, but I can't stand this game series and the undeserved (in my opinion, of course) following it gets. When will it end (and I'm a person who does not play these games)? :wallbash:

Please forgive that burst of hatred, but I have to say it somewhere and those are my thoughts on the matter that strays to a personal dislike of a genre I don't care about because it has many new titles I don't care about, at all, dwarfing the number of new releases from a genre I do care about.

My beef with COD is that its repitive, non fun, not strategic, full of 12 year olds, and it doesnt even simulate war as well as actual war simulators.

play DOOM on nightmare mod or serious sam on the highest level. now that takes some skill. i FINALLY got around to playing CoD at my friends house on the hardest setting and i only died once and that was while i was laughing at a bad joke. i do play alot of shooters but i think that the game should pose at least some challenge to veteran gamers. its clear the game was designed around people that need heavy aim assist and auto regen health.

STALKER stomps all over CoD in every category from realistic gun play to atmosphere and replayability. STALKER also doesnt hold you hand the whole game like CoD does.

Not to be mean, but it's not about you. Whether you like it or not, the vast majority of the gaming community is made up by people who play first person shooters, and that majority enjoys them. I too am tired of CoD specifically taking the spotlight, but FPS's in general can be great games. The Half Life series, for instance, has one of the best stories in gaming, and that's a first person shooter. Games like Killzone and Counter Strike allow for tactical team-based games that would be difficult to impossible to pull off in other genres.

by saying you hate it when people bring up CoD, you are bringing up CoD yourself, so you are actually joining the group of people you hate. Are you saying that you hate yourself?

Infinity Ward is gone, so the real CoD is gone. RIP Infinity Ward... I miss you...

I rarely hate on CoD, I just think it svcks. There's far better fps games out there, CoD just happens to have the best marketing team.

If I dislike a game, I'm going to "hate" on it. I won't actively seek out opportunities to do so, but if my opinion is asked, you're gonna get it. Other developers "learning" by reusing the base that Call of Duty provided does little to change my opinion of the game. In fact, it'll probably only make me more upset, as they're applying something I don't like to every FPS under the sun.

In other words, people like what they like and I'm tired of Call of Duty existing.

I'm also tiered of the recent games. The only reason I played MW2 was for the AC130 killstreak. But the grind to get to that eventually stopped paying off. It also boosts like many FPS the lack of teamwork. When you can wipe out the other team by camping, why bother even having a mic and talking? All they are going to do is distract you and are usually 12 year old kids.

God I miss the Halo days where sticking together actually meant something more than stealing each others kills.

I'm sick of it too. "I'm a hardcoe gamer, I play CoD and Halo." Give me a break.

If I see a game that is likely to deviate from CoD as much as possible, I'll look into it.

COD is a Standard in the video game industry. Mabey even the standard.

I never really was into it until Black Ops. If they can keep throwing it out year after year, I had to get Black Ops to see what this none sense was about. And damn, they have a really great game and franchise.

Activision has COD, Blizzard has Starcraft and Diablo.. what a killer team. :intergalactic:
