Tired of this unkillable NPC crap

Post » Mon Nov 30, 2015 2:09 am

Who came up with this crap? Seriously? Bethesda is trolling us. They put some really annoying NPC's that won't shut the eff up and then make them unkillable, because they are tied into some [censored] quest.

Fatman to face? Pfff. 3 clips of Minigun? Just a scratch. And they do it in Oblivion, in Skyrim. And I somehow need to feel urgency or pitty when they are attacked by raiders or mutants? Why? They can't be killed, why should I care?

Stupid game.

Why do the modders have to do all the stuff? Why can't we just kill NPC's? And if they are tied to a quest, let that quest fail, let it be a game over if need be, but let us kill them.

Actually i killed two quest npc's and still got the quest done because of a note on one of the corpses. It is indeed in the game, you just have to unlock the essential bit with letting the quests play out.

That's fine, but it's still idiotic IMO. Especially when Todd Howard says this:

Yeah, you can shoot them in the face, but it does nothing.

Yea I was hoping for a bit more of the radiant stuff where you can kill anyone but still move along with notes or something. Except for quests where that wouldn't make sense, but then I believe you should be entirely able to bone yourself out of a quest by killing someone you shouldn't have

To be honest, I don′t mind essential NPCs, what I do mind however is that they stay essential even after the quest associated with them is done. THAT needs to stop!

Yeah, sometimes Beth forgets to put in function that removes the essential flag.

Once upon a time long ago, Beth did a major survey of Morrowind players and found that less than 2% had completed the game. At the same time these forums were awash in players complaining that they had wiped out everyone in Balmora and now they couldn't complete the main quest. The Result was Oblivion with its dead straight and relatively simple main quest, and essential NPCs.

I don't think they will get rid of essential NPCs, but it would be really nice if they made the various guilds mutually exclusive like it used to be in Morrowind. I really want 4 huge quests with real depth, rather than more idiotic College of Winterhold quest lines.

Yeah, would like the option to kill anyone. Especially when that person turns hostile for whatever reason.

That being said, there have been far too many times where I have shot someone in the face due to the dialogue interface.

Preston would probably never have seen Sanctuary and NEVER equip a fatman in conversation.

If it's a murder simulator you're after why not check out "Grand Theft Auto V"?

It's handy having quest essential NPC's not die.

If it breaks the immersion trying to kill them... yeah, I know what you mean but go kill someone else.

+1 Precisely. This game is an interactive story generator set in a kooky and frightening retro-futuristic post-apocalyptic world, and where the central story line revolves around redemption of human merit, not the perpetuation of human vice.

Contrary to what some who have not even played the game seem to think, it is not intended as a promotion of gratuitous violence or anything else except humanism.

If you want to play it with those themes squelched, you'll need to wait for mods I guess.

I do not murder everyone on sight and that's not my goal.

Unkillable NPC's means no sense of urgency and makes no sense.

"Hey help us, we are getting attacked raiders!" I walk by, come back. "Hey help us" Walk by, come back 3 hours later "help us" LOL. I don't care. I can go back @ the end of the game 200 hours later and they will still be there. [censored] devs.

"+1" if you want to [censored] up a storyline by killing some idiot who mouths off to you you should be able to. You should be able to [censored] up your game if you want to, have the entire population of the wasteland gunning for your head, running from shelter to shelter killing everyone you see because by now everyone knows you are a psychopath, unable to do any quests at all but have a hell of a time watching the world burn.

Precicely.

On top of that Bethesda always make some unbelievably annoying NPC's unkillable. You can't even walk by them without wanting to chop their head off. They are always complaining, always spewing the same lines, with [censored] voice acting.

They insist in making Annoying Fan type NPC's and then laugh their asses off.

Gotcha. But the game is is for mature audiences and so the forums for the game should also be for mature audiences.

If the NPC's would all be killable someone else would have made a thread about how dumb Bethesda could be to let Questgivers die and not being able to proceed with the main Quest. You know that right?

Anyhoo, go to the Nexus. There is already a mod out that makes every NPC killable :)

Do not trust plugins until the official tools are released! There's a good chance it'll eventually corrupt your saves.

The main story line should not be tied to some quest giver. You should be able to get to the end by hacking terminals, getting notes, listening to radio, stumbling upon clues or something else. Unkillable NPC's is just a cheap excuse.

Not entirely true. It is not "linear" but it is also not as completely sandbox as say Garry's Mod or Minecraft. Sorry if that is what you wanted or expected, but if you notice the amount of time and effort that went into the characters, the quests, the interlocking stories, the map design, etc., you will realize that it is not in a strict sense "about doing what you want."

You can play whatever you want in the game, but at least for now, without any DLC or mods, the game clearly 'encourages' you to play a "good" character and the fact that quest-giving NPCs are unkillable is not that much of an issue if you do not seek to kill them.

It's not my video, but it illustrates my point. I'm pretty sure all of the atomic bombs of the Great War would not be able to kill her. Yeap, very immersive and realistic.
