So Todd Howard / Bethesda pretty much have me

CE is a complete ripoff.

You can get a more accurate guide on the internet. You can view the making of videos on the internet. You can view all the art on the internet.

You would have been better off just buying the dragon and the cloth map off of E-bay (perhaps the art book too if you really really want it). Could have saved you the pretty penny. Seriously though, that CE is not worth the price at all. Not even close.

Serious...? Skyrim is gonna be the best, but is just a game. Why would you lose your grip on the real world by letting it take over your life... Don't you people have friends too hang out with?

Yup, I have plenty of friends that I hang out with regularly. Had a pretty heavy weekend of that :)

I am a more than full time student, plus I also do acting on top of that.

I also work as many hours as possible
Oops, lol.

It also helps that I don't buy many games.

In the year 2011, I have bought... MLB 2K11, Madden NFL '12, X-Men Destiny, and will buy Skyrim. Oh, and Battlefield 3, when that comes out. 5 games all year. And honestly, that's probably a pretty busy year. Maybe 6 if I end up getting NBA 2K11.

People are taking this thread way more serious than it was intended to be. It's not like I'm on welfare or something, and deciding between Skyrim or groceries.

That's exactly what it was for me.

I know $150 is way too steep for what you get, and I didn't want to spend $150 on it.

But like I said, Elder Scrolls games come out once every 4-5 years, it is my favorite game series, it really is more of a "collector" deal than what I get. I will enjoy the book, and the DVD, and honestly I constantly forget about the statue. But having it as a collector is worth it to me.

Well I suppose in a way, I am only paying about $90 (including what I had down on the regular edition), for the rest I traded a bunch of old games I never play, seemed like a good idea at the time :celebration:

I've already sprung the retail price for my standard version. While the Alduin figure looks cool, I'm not really a figure kinda guy. Also, there's too many other games coming out for me to pay triple for one, even if it's the one I'm most looking forward to.

Yes it is, you are probably the ones I was referring to with no friends

Apparently I don't need friends, according to you, because I am multiple people already. We can just hang out with ourselves.

The game itself will be available on the internet for free as well; according to you, that means that people who buy the standard version are being ripped off too.

I know for a fact I would regret getting the collectors edition the second I paid for it. It's just.....$150, seriously?

But getting the game for free is illegal, so he has a point.

I won't buy CE's anymore, way too much cash for a bunch of dust collectors. After the FO3 one I vowed to never buy another. That much money for a crappy dollar store cheap clock in a junky plastic piece made to look like a pip boy....lol

So is it being suggested that Beth is going to put the making-of videos and good quality digital versions of all of the concept art from the art book up on the internet?

People ripping the video off the DVD and uploading it to youtube or scanning the concept art and uploading it is not legal, either.

There are making of vidoes of Oblivion that are not rips on YouTube. Who's to say they won't do the same? I would kill for a copy of that art book however..

The only 2 games i've purchased in 2011: LA Noire and NHL 12.

I also went on 2 separate trips down south over the summer + work and am a full time student.

Good for the OP, i dont see why people are trying to tell him how to live his life, even tho i dont agree with him.

Personally i have my fair share of CE editions, but i cant get myself to buy skyrim's CE simply since there nothing that justifies the high pricetag.
A dragon statue that will probably stay in the box because otherwise it would only collect dust, a making-off wich usually eventually become legaly available, and a art book wich most will only look at it when they are not playing the game aka on the toilet xD

I paid off my pre-order with old games I don't touch anymore. If I add on the rest of the store credit onto the 60 paid, I would only have to pay $47 for the CE. Worth it?

The only games I've bought this year are: Pokemon Black (and Pokemon White for my fiancee', but was with her money), Dragon Age II, NHL 12, and soon Skyrim (which my PS3 version is paid off already, just need to pay off the guide).

The CE isn't worth it to me either. I can care less about art books, and the making-of video will more than likely be on youtube eventually anyway. The only thing from it that would be worth it is the dragon statue, but that does not equate to a $90 price tag beyond the $60 I'm paying for the game already, along with $26 on the guide. Like someone here mentioned, could likely get the dragon statue on ebay. But question would be, would anyone sell it for a reasonable price? My guess, no.

While we are on the subject...

Has anyone else per-ordered the Skyrim Collectors GUIDE?

It actually looks quite good:

http://media.gamebandits.com/images/2011/09/skyrimcollectorsguide.jpg

By the looks of it, this strategy guide has a lot of content – 592 pages of tips, strategies, and other key Elder Scrolls information. If you have some extra cash, this is a great buy. It might be a very good investment. If The Elder Scrolls 5 – Skyrim manages to hit the ball out of the park, expect the Elder Scrolls series to last a long time. If so, this Collector’s Edition might go up in value along with the series’ longevity.

http://www.gamebandits.com/news/the-elder-scrolls-5-skyrim-collectors-edition-official-strategy-guide-cover-released-16697/

I don't play with guides but I thought I'd pick it up for after the first couple plays.

I pre-ordered the CE a few weeks ago for PC. I do honestly believe it may be a bit much, but being a long time fan since I was 12 years old playing Morrowind, I thought I could show my most support for them. Though again honestly, who would want a dragon statue? Hugh? What where they thinking? Why something like a 10 year olds kid toy? Why not a nice miniature replica of that nice elder scroll they had at that convention? That would have been alot nicer. Anyway, in my opinion the game will be worth $150 by itself. Thank god for Bethesda's games. If it werent for these guys there would only be two other companys making games worth even being conceptionalized, Rockstar and Quantic Dream.

FOR REAL!!!!

I pre ordered quite awhile ago.. collectors edition and the hard back version of the guide. I have 60 more bucks to pay off on it. I feel pretty good about that.. I'll only be down 30 dollars in november yet walking away with a 200 dollar value.. (geez.. 200 bucks for a game... I am insane.)

Well now my fiancee' freaking damn well spoils me. . .

She is the one getting me Skyrim for my birthday (which was back in July but. . . she can't help the release dates). She's also getting me the 3G model of the PS Vita for Christmas. I was quite happy with that, and getting the guide for Skyrim myself out of my own money.

Now however. . . as soon as my youngest god daughter (Alduin curse her) shows her image of the CE from the blog, she decides, being the collector she is, she wants the dragon statue. So now she wants to upgrade my preorder to CE! She spoils me, seriously lol.

Gotta learn to be more careful with your money than that. Do you really need a dragon statue? Really?
