Todd wanted vehicles in Fallout 3

Pure speculation. Todd says the top thing he wanted in Fallout 3 that didn't make the cut, was vehicles;

also keep watching for a follow up question. Todd states wanting mounts in morrowind, but was finally able to achieve it in oblivion.

Maybe F4 will feature vehicles. I just hope they don't eliminate the survival aspect of the game and serve as a means of travelling anywhere and everywhere in complete safety. I'm against the ideas of vehicles in F4, but if they did feature, then I just hope we have to maintain them regularly and not have them able to scale every different piece of terrain. I would also love to see an old ruined bus and use it as a makeshift safehouse.

I cannot shake this feeling that this time around Todd and the team have been able to create the Fallout game they originally set out to do. I wonder what they have to show us at E3

I'm guessing it will feature some form of vehicles. If you look at the http://content.gamesas.com/bsw_cms_asset/47158_2_0.jpg, it shows a car magazine in the magazine rack. Maybe there is a driving skill and one of the ways to level up your skills is to collect specific magazines, much like the manuals in previous Fallouts?

I think Vehicles are a waste of development time but if enemies have vehicles too while out in the wasteland, could be good battle encounters.

The only way I would use a vehicle in 4 would be if NPCs were using them too. I gave up riding horses in Skyrim because I was the only one doing it, and you could not attack while on it, at least I never figured out how to other than riding over someone.

It would add an interesting dynamic if say you were walking along a road and spotted a vehicle approaching in the distance. Take cover and try to ambush them if they stop and take the vehicle. I don't want the game to be Mad Max in Fallout universe, but it would be cool to mount the minigun to the nose for strafing attacks against those enormous looking Deathclaws!

Vehicles would actually be really cool to have, we already know that vehicles are common over in the NCR, Fallout 2 had the Chosen One driving around in a car and I would happily welcome the return of them in both lore and a game.

I don't think cars would be viable, Boston didn't get hit ad badly as other places but the roads should still be messed up. When it comes to vehicles I'd be happy with an off road bike or harley davidson style bike with saddlebags for storage and the need for fuel. Having to collect spare parts because the durability goes down on yoir vehicle whenever you use it would just be silly. We should obly have to repair a vehicle if we have damaged it ourselves.

Since the none fast travel options in skyrim was one of the few things almost universally praised, the addition of vehicles isn't impossible, personally I hope for a nice motorcycle.

I'm for it, so long as the map and game can support it. A slow bike is better than no bike if it means you don't get stopped by a loading bar every five seconds at top speed, amd no bike is better if the map is three miles to a side.

I want them, too, but I definitely don't trust them behaving great. Unless there's really good physics or it behaves similar to a Warthog from Halo, I don't want to ride around in a large brick. It would be neat like Mad Max, but I don't believe the wasteland is large and open enough to traverse it fluidly.

City. Piles of rubble? Broken streets? Collapsed bridges/overpasses/underpasses?

Until there is more evidence of the terrain, I don't see the point of vehicles.

Horses/mounts of some kind, maybe. But even motorcycles would have had issues in FO3. I'll hold my judgement until more information comes out.

Could also be an alternative to fast travel. People have been complaining for years about fast travel, that's how we wound up with the carriages in Skyrim. Stands to reason we'd get an alternative in FO4 as well.

Hmm, more or less smelly than a http://uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Passive_Creatures#Silt_Strider?

Nope, since that one room in Mothership Zeta, they are "fatman on sight"

And i wouldn't mind a ridable motorcycle

Exactly!

Maybe that's where the horses in Skyrim learned their psychotic aggression?

Yeah it will work if we have maintain them and maybe find fuel for them. So maybe we aren't able to drive it everywhere but is best used when we have to go a great distance.

Given that we could fly on a dragon in Skyrim, I would be willing to wager we do get to fly. Not sure I would use it as it would attract a LOT of attention from anyone in the area. Since we know intelligence is lacking in NPCs, after all they will try and fight or arrest you even after witnessing you slaying a dragon and absorbing its soul, attention of the locals is probably not a good thing.

I think motor cycles would be great. I don't know, I just wanted to drive a bike like the Fonz in Fallout 3. I think that would be perfect immersion there. :)

If they do it I would like it so that there's only enough space parts in the entire world to repair and main one vehicle. And if it gets blown up? Tough, you've just lost probably one the most rarest pieces of tech in the wasteland. It will make the player more careful and cry endless tears when a Deathclaw slices the thing to pieces.

How would we fuel the cars? I mean after 200 years wouldn't the pumps seize, if they worked at all? What would we use as fuel? Well maybe costing $1000 per litter or for American's $4000 per gallon would really mean we would have to save our caps for gas (is it petrol for the rest of the world?)

Oh wait we have working robots, and the military still has vehicles, so yes there would be working pumps or an alternative fuel source.

Vehicles/mounts create such an advantage for those who have them that their use would never have died out.....if horses have gone extinct (a point of lore I find objectionable), then someone, somewhere, would have found an alternative. For that matter, the folks at the Institute have the intellectual firepower to create that alternative. I hope there are vehicles and/or mounts in FO4. A horse (or equivalent) or a dirt bike would probably be the best as they can operate off road. But no transport but the Mk I Mod 0 Foot is an artificial constraint whose time has come and gone, IMO.

The Boomers used bio-fuel from crops they grew to fuel their B-29...a faction controlling a decent amount of arable land could make a lot of money selling it. They could also run on Fission Batteries, or even refurbished Pre-War nuclear engines (hopefully they won't explode so readily).
