"Where the scenery's attractive,
And the air is radioactive,
Oh, the wild west is where I wanna be."
-part of Tom Lehrer's song "The Wild West is Where I Want to Be"
You can't tell me that you don't think Tom Lehrer's music and humour would be perfect for the Fallout setting.
Not only was the guy active in the 1950s, where the games draw from, he also wrote several songs about The Bomb.
Alot of his other songs fit the over-the-top and borderline psychotic characters and enviroments.
Newcomers to Tom Lehrer should look up:
- Poisoning Pigeons in the Park
- My Home Town
- It Makes a Fellow Proud to Be Soldier
- The Hunting Song
- Actually, just look up all his songs.
And I could keep on going. There are so many reasons that he should be in the game. The Fallout games, with their playtimes easily breaking the 100 hour mark, and with several playthroughs, you start to get tired of hearing the same songs again, and again, and again.
But I think the best reason to add Tom Lehrer in "Fallout 4" is that he was a professor at MIT! Yep, he is tied to The freaking Institute!
Quote from Wikipedia (I'm a scoundrel): "From 1962, he taught in the political science department at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)."
That, his scientific career and his anti-war opinions might actually make him interesting storywise, atleast incorporating references would be a treat.
The games have previously contained references to him. There is a side quest's name which references his song "We Will All Go Together (When We Go").
What do you think? What songs would you like featured?
