Tomorrow is the big day!

I would say the complimenting is a bit far. I would only do it if something stood out that I liked. Knowing me, if the compliment were forced I'd wind up going, "I really like your... neckbeard?"

Even though they are a pain in the [censored], do every single little rule, like turning your blinker on when you go around parked cars and then again coming back. Emphasize your stops, almost to the point of constantly giving yourself whiplash but not quite to that point.

Once you get your license, you can run all the stops you want and never signal or shoulder check in your life ever again :)

That's why you have to bring your own fireworks.
And prep the cigarette lighter.

So things to look out for/do:

Check mirrors
Adjust mirrors
Compliment the instructors hair,clothes,etc.

Sound good to you guys?

Yes, redundancy and svckupism is what makes a fine driver, they'll be looking for those.

Hehe, exactly. I guarantee a large percent of drivers have forgotten/ignore a large percent of the proper rules of driving. I don't personally because I've gotten a speeding ticket and a no right turn ticket (money grab galore that thing has become) so I'm quite paranoid now. But I live in a city of very poor drivers that all seem to live by the philosophy of "I've got my license so I am beyond the rules" :/

I can hardly wait to get my licence, we're currently doing driver theory practice in school (grade 9) so this is all pretty handy for me to know

Since you're from Florida, the best way to show you know your driving stuff is to rubberneck in Daytona Beach with your camera phone snapping photos of hot chicks and upping them on Facebook during the test.

It's different in all states. Just drive 5mph under the speed limit to be safe. Stop before the SIGN on a stop sign, then creep up. If they tell you to stop in the middle of the street like they did me, look in rear view before stopping. When he tells you to go in reverse, look back again. Wear your seat belt, adjust mirrors (they love that), and a nice attitude and friendly personality helps as well.

^This, you MUST stop before the stop sign and you MUST come to a complete stop. I failed the test the first time I took it because I the nose of my car was in front of a stop sign when I stopped. That's all it was, and it was enough to fail me, so strict :( at least, in Alabama

I passed my first attempt. If I got marked down one or two more times, I would have failed. :P

I didn't have to parallel park for the test, but my parents made sure I could do that beforehand. They'll probably ask you about the different features of your car, such as air-conditioning or something. They did for me.

Funnily, the only point I missed on my drivers license test was accidentally leaving my blinker on that I used to pull up to the curb with while going in reverse...

Hah. I missed four points for not using my blinker. Thought I did too.

My driving test was like 5 minutes long... I just drove around the block and back to the DMV, lol. Just be sure to always look behind you and check the mirrors even when you don't need to. Just act like you are being extra cautious.

Pop down to Victoria, Australia sometime. We've been cracking down on speeding, not for the half a billion dollars/year in fines, but because its the best way to make our roads safer. Far more effective than things like teaching people how to drive/ride properly, or making sure people don't use barely maintained (bald tires, etc.) decades old cars.

Yeah. Instruction isn't quite as effective as inconvenience, and by extension cost.

Ok I have an appointment at 1:00pm tomorrow to get my drivers license and I was wondering what all is one the test besides a three point turn and parking. My dad said that they used to do a 30mph to 0mph quick stop when he took his, but that was back in 1969 haha.

They still did it when I took my test, which was rather more recent than that! (Edit: although "here" isn't "there", I should've noted.) It was quite obvious when it was coming since the rather rotund examiner made no attempt to hide looking over his shoulder before telling me.

Which reminds me of what I nearly failed on, which was allegedly not using my mirrors enough: I should've taken a leaf out of his book and made it more obvious, I guess.

Remember,

pedestrians are 10 points
cyclists are 5 points
small critters are 1 point each

Use your blinker a lot. Whether it be turning towards the curb or turning away. Also check your mirrors constantly.
In the UK, you will get points (points being negative) for using a indicator when pulling out if other drivers couldn't see your other indicator.

I passed, it was a piece of cake. The only major thing I got wrong was parking up hill, I turned my tires towards the curb instead of away, and I forgot to use my turn signal when pulling into a parking space even though I sat there and told myself a hundred times to use the turn signal :P

Congratulations.

Now you should take real driving classes to learn how to actually drive your car, and not just how to pass the basic rules. Find a driving school near you, professional or performance if you wish, and have some fun.

Yeah, it's a shame they don't include tailgating and overtaking on blind bends as an essential part of how to drive - it's all the rage in places like London. I think the BMW & Audi School of Motoring teaches advanced courses including these and more, as well as providing discount vouchers for the removal hazardous parts of the car such as indicators and the "off" switch for the foglights. :P

Edit: in case anyone was wondering, I'm obviously (I hope) not being serious - these are my most hated driving habits!

Another edit: and congratulations! A nice end to a nerve-wracking experience. :) Sigh, how'd I miss that...?

Yeah, I really want to go to one of the professional driving schools they use to teach race car drivers and people like that. Even if it was just for a day it would be awesome, always wanted to try out rally racing. We do stuff similar to it where I live out in the pine tree fields, mostly go-karts and dune buggies but occasionally a parent lends us their car :P
