Tomorrow things will change

Tomorrow things will change... but hopefully, for the better.

With the new resources... hopefully new players being drawn into the game... and new environments provided by FO:NV... I have faith that the community for fallout-fan mods will increase greatly in size -and- quality. Already I have seen people do some of the most amazing things imaginable! To put even MORE in the hands of the modders... it's going to be good.

That said, hopefully folks don't FORGET about Fallout 3.

Fallout 3 will need love, still... and there will always be those who love it for what it did.

No matter what anyone else might say about this game... it finally put me INTO THE SHOES of a wasteland survivor... and let me actually SIT behind that desk... READ the text on that computer... and SEE all those things that I'd only -wished- I could see and feel and experience. To the modders who brought me amazing energy weapon visuals... the need to drink, eat, and sleep... the ability to actually SIT on the toilets... and more guns, armor, and weapons than I care to even BEGIN describing...

Thank You... and don't forget to come back and keep making Fallout 3 better, too.

Hell, we've already got Geckos now! Why would you want to leave?

I've got at least one ongoing project in Fallout 3 that I don't intend to abandon. I'll probably end up developing it concurrently with a FNV version, as much as is possible to do so.

Isn't it crazy, how it's only been two years since Fallout 3's release and we've seen so many amazing mods in that time? And now, New Vegas is coming out. It's crazy!
Here's hoping that Fallout 3 modding continues to grow, and that New Vegas modding grows the same - or even better.

Now, if only I didn't have to wait so long for New Vegas to come out here!

Two words: International pre-order.
Mine's coming from the UK at a far far cheaper price than local stores (like EB and dike Smith who usually have new games at AU$100) and most other eBay sellers. Mine should be here next week :hehe:

I was only thinking the other day that it doesn't seem like Fallout 3 has been out for two years, that I've been playing and modding it for 2 years. It was exactly the same for Oblivion, although those two years seemed really long.

Rather than name the few mods you use, its better to say thanks to everyone who made a mod and released it free to everyone else.
There are plenty of good mods that went under the radar scope of the general mod using community.

So, cheers to everyone who 'released' their mods to the community. :celebration:

I will not be getting Vegas for personal reasons so I will be modding FO3 for some time yet.

So, there won't be tumbleweeds blowing around this part of the forum then, as I thought there may be :) There'll still be people keeping things going and modding as usual. That's good :goodjob: Plus I am looking forward to your Halloween mod. I'll be watching out for that one.

Thank you fallout modders for making my fallout experience a better one.

And having played FO:NV, your help is definitely needed there as well. I'm probably going to shelf new vegas for a few weeks until some of the more better(yes more better) mods are pushed out for it.

See what you guys have done to me? I can't even play fallout without mods now!

I also want to thank all the Fallout modders here . . . especially those who have helped me in my journey into modding (which was both fun AND extremely frustrating at times).

I'll be here for a while yet, as I'm not even close to being done playing Fallout 3 . . . and I still don't have a 'Final' version of my Realism Tweaks.

But I'm also going to be playing and modding FO:NV, and putting together a FO:NV mod list . . . my new Fallout New Vegas Journal just went online (see sig), mostly just to get ready as I'm planning to start adding mods to my list in the very near future.

Yup, certainly know that feeling - once you go mod, you never go back!

I suspect that for many mods, the last version uploaded, will be the final version :)

But I'm also going to be playing and modding FO:NV, and putting together a FO:NV mod list . . . my new Fallout New Vegas Journal just went online (see sig), mostly just to get ready as I'm planning to start adding mods to my list in the very near future.

Nice! I'll definately be checking your list out, when I get to New Vegas (ETA still unknown).

So, you'll be the Buddah of FO:NV? That'd be good. I thought someone may've done the same for FO3, just like Buddah did for Oblivion. That was handy when Nexus went down and lost a lot of files at one stage. But, it's also handy to have a massive list of all mods released. I like lists :)

It has been a fantastic run over the last 2 years, you all have produced some amazing mod content and forever changed my gaming experience. Everything from the ultra-sophisticated FOOK and FWE to the Screenshot mods - I love em all.

Look forward to seeing many of you in the NV forums, and will still be around here too.

Cheers and great job! :goodjob:

Well things won't be changing for me. I've been reading far too many posts by people who are having problems just trying to get New Vegas to run. The big one for me is the problem of the game trying to download from Steam even though people have bought a hard copy version of the game. Downloading a 6.5 gig file is simply out of the question for me, and I'm not going to pay out a bunch of money just to find out I'm one of the unlucky ones. So keep the FO3 mods coming, it looks like I'll be playing it until the New Vegas GOTY edition comes out and all those problems have been sorted out.

Not exactly . . . my mod list is not THAT inclusive . . . it is mostly a list off mods that I use in my own game (along with some alternate suggestions); and I don't host the mods, I just provide the direct links (most often at Nexus), and my own working load order; plus my fantasy story (which follows some of my character's adventures, along with some commentary on the mods that are being featured in each chapter).

I've been doing this since Morrowind was first released. I've also covered Oblivion, Fallout 3, and now am about to do the same for Fallout New Vegas.

(I just got home from a late meeting, and my FO:NV pre-order had arrived . . . so I'm installing it now.)

Same same.

I dove in head first with F3 and then got the dlc and now feel that the best mods needed time to mature and the official patches and so far I'm just not eager to ride the official patches rollercoaser right now.

Besides Oblivion has great stuff going on right now.

... I notice no change in my life.

I don't see any reason why we should abandon FO3 either anyway - so many people have invested so much effort into optimising and polishing the core experience, there's plenty of room to build on that. At the very least while we're waiting for Obsidian to fix the army of bugs.

Wrong. If people are claiming the game is still trying to download even after they've installed Steam and inserted the disc, then they should probably get a new disc drive.

No I'm not wrong. If you're going to shoot off some baseless conclusion, at least try to back it up with facts:

baseless
I'm sorry - I wasn't aware that I had never used Steam, nor installed a retail Steam game off a DVD ever.
Oh, wait. I have! As far as I can see, practically everybody in that topic is neither versed with Steam nor has bothered to try to get it to work by installing the game. Unless you're willing to tell me that New Vegas is unlike EVERY Steam game I have ever installed off of a DVD, in which case I'd like to point you towards a little thing we call "common sense". As you have clearly stated you will NOT be buying New Vegas, and have only the heresay of people who have likely never used Steam before, I think it's safe to say that YOU'RE the one spouting "baseless conclusion" [sic].

Funny, but just over at the Civ 5 forum, I noticed that some people trying to install that game are also having the exact same issues with Steam downloading instead of using the disc. Odd coincidence don't you think? :shakehead:

If Steam can't even get an installer to work reliably, I'm certainly not going to be able to trust the rest of their system.

Hmm. Well, the only Steam game I ever bought with a physical disc is the original Half-Life 2, so I've no idea about that.

But in the many, many years since then I've never had a major problem caused by the platform, and all the minor ones have been solved double-quick by Valve.

Really, I haven't bought a game on physical media in years, digital distribution all the way :)

I had the exact same problem on my first install attempt . . . and was looking at a +3 hour download. So I cancelled the install, ran the uninstall option from the CD's menu, and tried again. The second time was the charm. I have no idea why it wanted to ignore the CD and download everything. And I already had an active Steam account and everything. Very strange.

It tried to pull the same thing with me - downloading the game when I had the DVD. I also canceled and uninstalled, then browsed to the DVD in Windows and ran Setup manually. Worked that time.

I chalked it up to my Steam n00bishness - never had even gone to the Steam site before getting New Vegas. It did not make for a good first impression of Steam.

All Games (58)
I've never bought a boxed steamworks game apart from HL2 way back when, but I've found it to be truly excellent. As you can tell from the amount of games I have in Steam :)

No, a UK eBay seller (australia-games) who lists on the Aussie site. All up I paid about $42, including postage.
My usual game dealer hasn't been selling anything lately, unfortunately. His were a tiny bit dearer, even though he imported from the UK as well, but he has excellent after-sales service, plus has helped me with upgrading my PC in the past. One of those rare eBay Power Sellers who like to help others for free :)

The game on Steam is a 6.5GB download? Wow. I'd not be able to do that, either. My monthly download limit is 5GB and I'm already over, so my speed has been slowed. That'd be painful waiting for that file. Plus I prefer physical CD's of my games, with boxes and manuals, plus as I rarely put the discs back in their cases I can make a backup without having to wait for a big download to finish.
Being where I am landline-based broadband isn't an option right now, so we've got Wireless and it's alright, good speeds, but that super high speed broadband (us Tasmanians got before the rest of Australia) would be much better. It's too much of a hassle to get it, though. We don't have a landline at all.

Anyway. Back to lurking :)

Coincidence? Not at all. Let's review the facts.
    1) Game series gets new installation using Steamworks
    2) People who have been long-running fans of the series get the game and thus must install Steam
    3) Everybody complains because they don't know how to use Steam and can't be bothered to go look for the solutions to their problems - nor try any alternate methods of dealing with it - themselves.
In conclusion; don't be a fool.
