Well, I've been watching alot of gameplay, and seeing alot of people playing traditional roles. Ranged DPS Sorcerer, Dragon Knight; Heavy Armor; Tank, etc. Not much variation.
If I wanted to be a Breton Sorcerer that used light armor, a Two Handed Sword, and conjuration, could I? Or would I be so weak, i'd be useless?
I plan to play alot of PVP, so I don't want to be that one eccentric weak link, that slows everybody down.
Would I have to be more traditional to be effective?
Would I have to go for the obvious variations, like the Ranged DPS, Fire Staff, Dragon Knight, Dunmer?

If you're going to be a Sorcerer, I'd suggest a staff, but to be more specific, I suggest the Restoration staff. But you'd do pretty good in PvP as long as you don't kamikaze.

You'll be fine if you pick your skills and attributes wisely. You're seeing a lot of the "traditional" builds because that's what people have been locked into playing for years and years.

But seriously, I think there must be SOME way to make your build work, if that is what you want to do.

So long as you don't completely swear off your class abilities you should be fine. Sorcs stamina pool is pretty open if you dont mind giving up your channeled heal and could easily be used to power your two handed abilities. Use your summon, maybe throw daedric curse around toss the occasional lightning pool or crystal shard, then bash the hell out someone with a big mace. It could totally work.

Yup, if you pick your skills wisely like EclipseEGO said, you should have nothing to worry about. Also, I don't think your race matters too much so you can be a Breton if you want.

it wouldnt be weak, just pick things that advantage what you are doing and dont forget you get a second weapon at lvl 15.

So you could be light armor, two handed sword + summon and on the other weapon you could take range. You NEED range in big pvp battle.

But from what ive played so far, everything work.

What is the eccentric part, just the 2h sword?

Nah you will be fine. A sword allows you to pull from both stamina and magicka pools.

theres a video of a DK in med armor using a staff and all the class abilities to extreme effectiveness which would differ from the normal dk heavy armor sword wielding build.
