Is 25 too late to change? If not then please help

Post » Wed May 08, 2013 10:07 am

I have a RP in mind where I want to turn my Nord barbarian into a vamp lord but was wondering if maybe level 25 is too late to turn a barbarian into a magical creature. I've never put a point in magic nor do I know any spells, he was a pure 2H warrior. I've found that I like the look of the warhammer Voldenrung with the vamp lord thing but it seems that magic is pretty much a necessity now, especially in vamp lord form.

What skills/perks would you recommend me working on? I've heard that the Necromage perk is a must for vamps as it makes them stronger somehow and Illusion seems to be a vamps calling but I'm not a fan of the trixxy stuff. I don't know anything about vamps in Skyrim besides how to kill them ha so any tips or tricks would be much appreciated thanks. Basically anything that would seem suitable to his style or make him stronger.

In case you're curious, this is what he looks like: http://i739.photobucket.com/albums/xx34/lordtru/20130506_232553_zps331c4ae1.jpg

I have a RP story in mind where he's been buried in Skyrim for ages and was one of the original vamps that time has forgotten, something stirred his slumber and now he seeks to reclaim his power and castle. I'm tossing around a backstory where he was a mighty barbarian that was corrupted/cursed by Molag Bal but haven't really fleshed it out yet. I like how the Stormcloak officer armor (minus silly bear hat) seems to suit this style lovely, especially with the mighty Voldenrung on his back

With legendary you can level up beyond what you need to be a warrior and put points into magicka.

True but I don't like legendary skills, I can't RP a reason why my guy would suddenly forget how to wield his weapon as well as he could before. I could exploit smithing or something to do this but tedious grinding doesn't appeal to me either.

I would say that he's halfway to the max level that he would achieve as I don't see him making it past level 50 but then again maybe using magic would get him past that mark.

Just role play that he got defeated in battle and had amnesia and magic can be quite useful to a barbarian. You should not stereotype barbarians as guys who would only go rawr melee. Bound sword may be under magic but it can be useful for a barbarian, same with bound bow (a good barbarian would know how to use a bow as well).

Haggar, Your character looks Badass.

Enchant gear with fortify magicka and/or pick magicka when leveling up.

You could start again if you wanted to. if you have Dawnguard DLC installed, that whole quest line will get you to around level 17, only a bit more leveling up until you hit 25 again and illusion magic is so easy to level up.

Vampires do not always rely on their magic, there are some who prefer might over magic.

I tend not to play vampires because I dislike their appearance in Skyrim, so I'm afraid I don't know too much about it.

Also a barbarian mage would kind of be unique anyway, you should try that instead of going for the traditional melee barbarian.

ha thanks, I think he looks much better then the other meth addicts that I've tried to make vampires after DG :P

I was thinking that putting points in magic is an obvious choice but then again I was tossing up the idea of boosting health more to counter the penalty that happens when you don't feed. I was thinking of not feeding so he gets the bonuses and becomes invulnerable to frost (nord 50% resistance + 4th form 50% resistance).

Has anyone made a vamp lord warrior that doesn't feed? If so how's that working out for you?

Whats you're enchanting level? If its high, enchant some armor focusing on magika. That way you can start playing as a mage but still keep your barbarian side.

Isn't a barbarian mage similar to a Shaman?

It's not a problem regardless, I think. I've had characters evolve quite often. Mage to battlemage, warrior to spellsword, assassin to illusionist to dual-wielder... that's the cool thing about Skyrim.

Tried it out before, it's viable but you'll get a much larger weakness to fire aswell.

Vampires have a special power which they can use to ''stun'' a person, allowing to bite him or her without having to sneak or use magic.

Hope that helps.

My enchanting is whatever the starting level is. As I've said I played a pure barbarian warrior so that means I only used my battleaxe, wore light armor if any, used no potions so I have none stocked and only put points in health and stamina. I might start working on enchanting to boost magic but I would probably only enchant a ring and necklace as I prefer to wear armor/clothes that's suitable to my style which means that chances are it's already enchanted. I'm currently wearing unenchanted stormcloak officer armor but I plan on seeing how he looks in the Royal vampire armor, the Ebony mail or Nightingale armor as they all seem to suit a dark vamp lords style. I don't like the overlord look of daedric as it's too gaudy for my tastes.

How do they fare in combat? If you don't feed then you take a hit to health and are weak to fire, do you compensate with enchanted gear or uber armor?

see this is the kind of thing that I'm clueless about...what's this power and how can you feed in normal human form? I thought the only way to do so is to sneak on them while sleeping as in OB

Please enlighten me

Not sure but a barbarian mage might be different than a shaman because shamans tend to work with the community around them and usually don't fight unless needed if I am not mistaken.

I use armour with maximum AR and I use grand healing. Vampire seduction is used for feeding but I dont feed.

I just recently had one of my characters become a vamp for the first time it seems to me that a battle mage would be the best build to go vamp with.

ha no you're not alone, this is the first time that i've completely switched up an existing character though but it's better then starting fresh and having to acquire all the gear I wanted for them.

thanks ferry, I will check it out

well since the skills are only numbers and you cant see in anyway in-game what skill you have just say the enemies got a lot better armor or something
