Yeah you're doomed. Might as well start again, no point now, move on, start again fresh.

No, it isn't to late for archery. The only question is how many perks do you want to put into it? 17th is still pretty low level, so there is pleanty of room to grow.

Then why did you ask the question? You shouldn't need validation for everything you do.

If you're playing on PC then try a perk reset mod?

Level 17 is not too late. Archery will go along nicely with the skills you have already been developing. Incidentally, pirates don't "arch". Maybe the next DLC will give us flintlocks or some other inanity.

Pirate guy? What's that about?

Anyway, Lockpicking, Speech and 1H have nothing to do with it. I assume you have leveled either Light Armor, Heavy Armor or both but they don't matter either. However, Enchanting and Smithing do matter. They will help in the damage output.

Being only level 17 is a help in itself as you'll still a long way to go. You won't be one shotting most things yet, but enemies don't really have a defense against extreme ranges. You can easily climb up and perch on a ledge overlooking a camp and take pop shots all day.

Melee enemies are easily taken out by using your environment, like a rock or even a table. Then it's really more comparable to shooting fish in a bucket.
