Too many HP at beginning / too slow levelling

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 5:35 am

Hi all,

I started playing Oblivion again, with mods, and discovered two problems:

1. too slow levelling - I was using OOO and 2x slower levelling, and after 10 hours of playing I was still at level 1 - is that normal? Do you typically gain a level in the starting dungeon, or not?
2. too many HP - I reinstalled Oblivion, this time with OOO, Realistic Levelling and Progress, and I seem to be too strong, at least I guess - rats, goblins and even shaman in starting dungeon do too low damage. I was able to withstand like 10 or more Shamans lightnings without a problem, rats seemed to neeed about 50 hits to kill me, same with Goblins, but I took them down with one swing of katana. Is that normal?

Thanks for your answers!

1. That is normal with 2X Slower Leveling, the first level is always the hardest it seems for me. Depending on how often you use your skills but I wouldn't play without a leveling mod and Progress.
2. If you have nothing more than OOO, depending on your skills and which dungeons you went too, that is normal. OOO has easy dungeons and hard dungeons, so you will get owned in some places.

Can I make a suggestion if you want a simple loadorder and a good challenging overhaul that goes with OOO?

ROM - Revised Oblivion Mod

It is based on OOO, so uses a lot of it's world changes but it completely overhauls: leveling, magic, combat, stats, NPC difficulty (especially making Oblivion realm a scary place) and much more. It is recommended to download the manual and have a quick look through but it is an impressive overhaul all rolled into one (and means you don't need any other mods to handle a lot of things). And installation is dead simple, add 2 .esp's to the end of your loadorder and that's it. For me it's a unique experience that makes Oblivion challenging and realistic which seems what your after, and runs fine on low-end systems too.

1. depends on your major skills. If you don't train them, you don't level.

2. seems like a difficulty level issue. Just raise the difficulty a lot.

OOO, by default, has 3x slower leveling. If you were using 2X OOO's leveling, you'd then be using 6x slower leveling.

1. I don't ever gain a level in the starting dungeon. Everything is too weak.

2. Your HP isn't particularly high. Wait until you are out of the starter dungeon. That's definitely not the place to draw your conclusions about the difficulty of such an overhaul.

Edit: Do you know what Realistic Leveling does? If you don't like how your skills are starting out, don't use it. Also, don't use a separate slower leveling mods with Progress. Use Progress to change your progression rate. The default settings for Progress match the default settings for OOO, so you can leave it alone once installed unless you find the progress rate too slow/fast.
