Too many Deathclaws

Post » Sun Feb 14, 2016 2:53 pm

Hears the scenario; I had 72 dwellers, most of which are level 15 to 20 and have a max resource storage of about 1000. So I was attacked by DeathClaws 6 times in an hour. I lost 28 dwellers and nearly 800 food and water. If you can't (or wont) fix it can you at least make them weaker or give us a stronger vault door to upgrade to. Anything that wont ruin my 4 weeks worth of work.

As I write this i'm being attacked again. So until the next update or whatever, I'm just gonna stop playing it.

1. They are more likely to attack when you open the door so don't bring in or send multiple people out at once but over time once you have used stims to heal people.

2. Back the game up daily if you can.

3. Make sure your defense is up to the challenge with dwellers on the top 2 floors in big rooms to kill them faster or small rooms that will slow them down as long as your dwellers will survive the attack and have stronger weapons as this way is designed to kill them before they can reach the 2nd floor usually.

Also make sure you had leveled your dwellers endurance to max before you leveled them at all if you can as they will get a hp boost once they start leveling if endurance was high first only.

Finally if you find yourself not ready for these guys get back to under the population limit. either 60 or 61, of when deathclaws attack and prepare for them.

Your just playing badly, DC's are pretty weak, you just need the right set up. Top floor just have single room width builds, put 2 of your best armed in each room, when DC's come (increased by radio room or sending people out or into the vault) you just follow them from room to room, and stim as needed (much easier with only 2 people), I have 4 attacks an hour (no radio room) and I have probs had about 60 attacks on my vault to date, with the DC's never making it off the top floor, they get about half way back to the central elevator before the last one dies. I have level 15-20 people with about 2/3 strength and endurance with standard + 2 stat gear, half have 15 damage weaps the rest have 6-8 shotguns, that's it.

Many creature adhere to the room level rule, basic single width room is minimum, so a roach for example can be stepped on and dead, 3 width room with max upgrade will mean your roach is now as strong as a Death Claw.

I only sent one dweller out. a level 50 the day before. But my point is they chance to get an attack is too high. i'd like if they could set a small chance for one attack a day.

The chance is not too high, as a radio room brings them in too and they can randomly attack but as they are so easy to kill it is not an issue, even if you do ignore it when I tell you the actual situation :)

Stop using your radio room, it only brings in [censored]tier dwellers than you can give birth to and attracts deathclaws.

You must be using a radio room, then. Stop using it. The Deathclaws ONLY attack me if I send enough people out to the wasteland, or bring them back in to the vault. I've never had a random attack without sending out or receiving dwellers. That's why I never even bothered using a radio room.

I think the problem is don't open the game for one hour straight =P. Six deathclaw attacks is just too annoying to deal with even though clawys are weak. Natural hit point healing isn't fast enough you will need simpack or floor rotation to get by six attacks.

You need to assign two dwellers to guard the door. They won't attack nearly as often then. Make sure to give them your best weapons and armor.

Best bet would be to destroy your Radio room.

There is a base chance for a deathclaw attack. You can do things to increase the chance for an attack. Opening the vault. door, radio broadcasts (as near as I can determine, this happens when you click on the vault door icon in the radio room to call in a new dweller) and any kind of vault construction (adding rooms, destroying rooms and upgrading rooms) are the things that will increase the chance of an attack.

As for dealing with an attack...

Typically, you cannot stop them in one room. It generally takes the deathclaws to move through two or three rooms. Their route of travel is from the vault door to the right most room on the top floor, The will then create a hole in the floor and drop down to the second floor where they will move from right to left. They will continue through the floors, left to right, then right to left, then left to right, etc. until they are killed or have moved through the entire vault.

You do NOT want to construct your vault in such a manner that would cause the deathclaws to backtrack. The reason is that in most cases the deathclaws do not remain in a room long enough to kill everyone, but if they do return to a room they have already been in, they will wipe out the survivors.

My deathclaw defense consists of three, three-wide rooms. The one on the first floor is a power room and is where all my highest level dwellers are with my best weapons. I have an empty two-wide storage room to the right of my first floor power room. Just below that storage room is another empty storage room. Then to the left of that (just under my first floor power room) is my second three-wide defense room (currently it is a diner). This room is filled with my second highest dwellers with my second best weapons. This is the room that the deathclaws are usually stopped. Ever so often, they make it past this room and go into my last three-wide defense room (You guessed it. It contains my third highest leveled dwellers with my third best weapons). The deathclaws have never gotten beyond that third room. I have also only had two dwellers killed by deathclaws (for some reason, one of them doubled back and killed two of my defenders in the first room).

One thing, if one of the defense rooms you set up is a living quarters, you will want to fully staff it with all male or all female dwellers for obvious reasons.

Deathclaws are more of an annoyance than anything else, if you are prepared for them. It is the thrice damned mole rats that give me the drizzles.

Take a gander upon my fine wares! (http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1533794-guide-easy-incident-no-molerats-right-room-and-more/)

Or, alternatively, here's a http://i.imgur.com/APioR0H.png of my vault, no molerats, guaranteed. At least, not in the inhabited space. Sometimes in the storage rooms (http://i.imgur.com/lfBNp9y.png), but they run out of steam faster than when I used to fight them. Plus, you don't need to have dwellers in those rooms (yet) to get more storage so win-win... :D
