Too many game releases this year

Post » Thu Oct 28, 2010 9:27 pm

Don't forget Kingdoms of Amalur. I am hoping that one will be ok.
But ya there has been a lot of games coming out this year. Maybe they are trying to get as many games out as they can before 2012!

Kingdoms of Amalur is a 2012 title.

I thought Fable III was released in 2010

The only game I'm looking forward to this year is Skyrim. I already wasted my money on DA:II and because of that I'm not getting ME3. I'd probably Like to get Diablo as well, but they will most likely not allow internet free LAN play so eff that.

The 360 version of Fable 3 was released in 2010 but the PC version is coming this year.

This is definitely a bumper year for must-have titles. Skyrim, Mass Effect 3, Uncharted 3, Dark Souls, LA Noire, Saints Row 3 - all guaranteed purchases.

My problem is too large of a backlog. I just played Uncharted for the first time ever, and now I'm going to have to get that and Uncharted 2 before I can get Uncharted 3.

I don't think it'll hurt the industry. Quite a few of those are sequels to fairly successful IPs, and even among games of the same genres there's a decent amount of variety.

Anyway, definite buys (assuming they make it this year) are:

Final Fantasy XIII-2
Final Fantasy Type-0
Mega Man Legends 3
Tales of Graces f
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Mass Effect 3

Then a handful of games that may or may not ever see a NA release, like Pandora's Tower, Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, etc.

Not too bad really, but then there's the NGP shooting for the holidays, rumored Wii 2 sometime next year. I foresee a severe lack of monies.

No, every gamer has a different preference... I'm excited for games like BF3, Skyrim and ME3, but a lot of others like DIRT 3 are of no interest. There's good and bad years in everything, and gaming is just going to continue to grow. I'm in university now too so I don't have as much time as when I was younger to play so I'm not giving too much support.

And for PC Gamers, don't forget hard drive space for all those games :P

But out of that list, I'm only really interested in Hitman 5, Elder Scrolls V Skyrim, Battlefield 3 and The Old Republic (which I probably won't get, I don't like paying monthly)

Already bought DA2, Crysis 2 and Portal 2. Will buy ME3 and Skyrim. I just noticed FEAR3 will be released about a month from now, will propably buy at D2D with a reduced price. The rest i have no plans for, i buy them if they are on sale, seem interesting and happen to have the money for it :D

All I can say is: Yeah connections and being part of the industry! ^_^
(You wouldn't believe how many more games actually come out. It boggles the mind. Those are not even ten percent. It's not making me really happy to localise shoddy pet games, but as long as it pays the bills and grants me the ability to purchase infinitely better titles... :shifty:)

Games I would like:
Portal 2
Mortal Kombat
Brink
L.A. Noire
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
Dirt 3
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Compilation
Dead Island
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
RAGE
Gears of War 3
Battlefield 3
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Guild Wars 2
Hitman 5
Mount&Blade: With Fire & Sword
Torchlight II

But, I only am allowed to get 2 or so games a year so I'll probably be getting Skyrim, Dirt 3 and maayyyybe Guildwars 2
And I thought last year was gold mine.

I've realized that there are so many good games being released this year that there is no way I'll be able to afford purchasing them all. Take a look at this list:

Portal 2
Mortal Kombat
Darkspore
MotorStorm: Apocalypse
Brink
L.A. Noire
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
Fable III
F.E.A.R. 3
Dirt 3
Hunted: The Demon's Forge
Red Faction: Armageddon
InFamous 2
Operation Flashpoint: Red River
Alice: Madness Returns
Duke Nukem Forever
Dungeon Siege III
Might and Magic Heroes VI
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Compilation
Dead Island
Madden NFL 12
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
RAGE
Gears of War 3
Batman: Arkham City
Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
Battlefield 3
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Diablo III
Dota 2
Final Fantasy XIII - 2
Guild Wars 2
Hitman 5
Mass Effect 3
Mount&Blade: With Fire & Sword
Red Orchestra: Heroes of Stalingrad
Saints Row: The Third
Star Wars: The Old Republic
Tomb Raider
Torchlight II
Stronghold 3
X: Rebirth

That's... a lot of games. All scheduled for release this year. I don't think there is anyone who wants to buy all of those games, but a lot of us (gamers) probably want a LOT of games from that list, and chances are that we're going to have to choose what games to buy due to financial reasons. I mean no one is going to buy 10+ 60$ games this year. At least no one on an average salary.

That means that a lot of potentially great games are not going to get the attention or the sales that they deserve, which could hurt the developers if they had high expectations for the game and put a lot of money into the production.

What do you think? Is it going to hurt the developers that there are so many games being released this year?

Also, what games do you plan on purchasing from that list? Are there any games you want to buy but you probably won't due to financial reasons?

my wallet is gonna suffer....

The only games that I'm buying on the release date are Skrim and L.A. Noire, on Xbox.

I may get Brink and Gears 3 and ME3.

For PC only Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Here are the games I plan to get:

Portal 2
Mortal Kombat
Darkspore
L.A. Noire
Duke Nukem Forever
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Diablo III
Final Fantasy XIII - 2
Hitman 5
Mass Effect 3
Mount&Blade: With Fire & Sword
Star Wars: The Old Republic

If I get any other games it will just be for the hell of it. I also had no idea that Hitman 5 was scheduled for this year.

I think the great influx of games has a possibility of hurting a few developers, but I also think that great games will sell no matter what.
