Too much Fallout in my Skyrim...

Post » Sun Jun 20, 2010 5:12 pm

Maybe it's just me, but I'm worried that we are going to end up with too much Fallout in Skyrim. Has anyone else noticed that a lot of the ideas and mechanics seem to be making there way over..... I'm worried, very worried!

Not really there is a God who wants to eat the world, that God always has been there but now it's his time, and you are seemly the hero 'a dragonborn' who needs to stop this God ...

Simple ....

If it works well, use it. Did anyone play Dragon Age Origins, and say "OMG the mechanics are so similar to Mass Effect,it doesn't feel like a fantasy game"? Don't think so.

In my opinion that is the best possible thing they can do, Fallout was a brilliant game. Its just that the setting isn't as good as the Elder Scrolls.

If you're refering to perks, I see them as a good addition. I was skeptical at first, but I can see how a skill-based set of perk-trees will be beneficial, since it means we don't make tons of useless skills of varying quality and scope and instead group subcategories under perks, so all skills are roughly equal.

No, I played Origins and said "Wow, the mechanics are so similar to Knights of the Old Republic's and Final Fantasy XII's". :P

But Fallout 3 was pretty much a clone of Oblivion, just some streamlining.
Too much Elder scrolls up in my Fallout.

The developers are learning new techniques etc which they will apply to their other games, add to this it is the same style of game so there will obviously be some crossover.

Unless they added V.A.T.S., I think I can deal with whatever may be included that has influences from Fallout.

This is exactly the way I felt about Fallout 3 when it came out. I remember Fable 2 released around the same time but all my friends were preoccupied with FO3 and some Call of Duty game. Probably World at War. Whenever somebody asked me what I thought about it I'd say "Oblivion with guns!" because it kind of was and because it stole the spotlight from my most anticipated title. That didn't stop it from being an amazing game when I finally gave it a chance after giving up on the Fable series.

I had that worry months ago, now I'm not so worried. Fallout was one of bethesda's games and they think some of their ideas from there could improve Skyrim so I'm willing to give them some leeway. I know they are aware of this fear. Fortunately also Todd has told us that they're dedicated to making Skyrim unique to Skyrim even though they are using similar things to fallout, so lets wait and see.

Too bad for you. I'm pretty sure Skyrim will be one of the best RPGs of the year just beside Dark Souls and The Witcher 2

i'm kinda worried about there being to much fable influence... and fable fell short of feeling like an rpg to me... it was too watered down. they only had 3 major stats in those games too...physique, skill, and magic.... skyrim has health, fatigue, and mana... i hope to god that there is some depth when i look in the menus... its going to come down to how well they do this perk thing....

fallout 3 was amazing... TES could take a lot from it... but not everything... i thought that vats system made it too easy... i wonder if the dragon shout system is going to do the same thing in a different way?

More like there was too much TES in FO3 (not really it was a great game but they oblivionized the fallout series, not the other way around). But anyway...

Perks are entirely skill-based. This sounds more like typical RPG skill trees than FO3 perks.

Level scaling is like FO3, and this is a good thing for any Bethesda RPG. They're progressively getting better at this and aren't going to revert to an older method. Oblivion would have been a lot better with a better level scaling implementation.

Attributes are not like FO3, as that game actually had them.

The world is hand crafted like FO3... and also like Morrowind. This is a good thing. No more boring procedurally generated landscapes.

Fast travel works like FO3, and a lot of people like this. No more free fast travel to all major cities at the beginning of the game.

The biggest new feature of the game is the dual wielding system... Something Fallout 3 did not have and something that TES fans have been wanting for a while.

One of the best? Can we stop with this already and just admit it's going to blow everything else out of the water? I laugh because every game that has been released so far this year that people claimed would be better than Skyrim... well it's like another one bites the dust immediately after their release. There was never any chance.

There's plenty bad about it, everyone has their own opinions on what makes a good game. One reason for me that made it unepic was that the bobble-head in that military compound ended up lost forever once it was destroyed...as a complitionist who doesn't like to use walkthroughs that annoyed me very much, secondly the brain splatter and raiders hideouts and supermutants feeding area. All those things, that while made sense for the game and I don't blame them for having them, made the game worse for me not better. Aside from that though it was a great game not epic though, I expect Skyrim to be "Epic".

The witcher 2 was no good, way too over rated and over mentioned.

If you don't think a thread is worth discussing then you do not need to post on it. There are many many many repeat threads, because there are many many many people who enjoy the game and want to share their opinions and concerns on it. Most who have a concern want to have their concerns eased. Skyrim is very important to most people on these forums, so try and have more respect for the people who are here participating with you.
