Im still positive to how the game will be over time, but right now its unplayable for me. I can't load the saves, game crashes after 5 min, If i go to the power section in the workshop, its an instant crash. I preordered to give bethesda a better budget, still they release a game that is unplayable for many. Im so excited to try Fallout 4, but i cant.. My PC is good, being stopped for unknown reasons. Try to stay positive in that situation..
Well I can't help but be disappointed with some things. Reputation system gone, skills gone, no hc mode, degradation gone, dialog and quest branching much poorer from what I have seen so far. Since I play the game 90% for its rpg elements, sorry I am not excited about the new power armor pewpew smash mode. Couldn't care less about it in fact. Doesn't mean I don't like anything in the game, but overall I am disappointed, because rpg-wise it was a step back...
To add, this game has issues. And I'm not just talking about bugs. The PC UI is just - there's no excuse. And I'm not talking about the PipBoy. FO4 PC UI is almost as bad as DAI's was. The house (settlement) building UI is just terrible. The menus are inconsistent; companions getting stuck and showing up places they shouldn't, the characters look like Odo (from ST:DS9) - it's a long list.
People waited years for this game. The hype was bigger then Back Ops and Battlefront. I took off from work to play. I know others who did too. So people have a right to be pissed.
Tell you the truth, a modded NV beats the hell out of this game (Bounties, Russell, and Inheritance mods) just considering the story. I mean com'on-i was with my "wife" and "child" for maybe 4 mins. I didn't even name the kid. You expect me to give a rats ass about him? I have no emotion infested in it at all. Right now, this game is a nice shooter with a back story.
Now for what it is, I like this game. And I'm gonna finish it. Then put it down for year and hope the modding community enhances it. But it's a far cry of what I expected. And frankly, the way this game is now, I would've waited to the weekend to boot it up.
Very disappointed. And hoping for the mod kit.
PS: The Metacritic reviews, from the players is 5.6. That's low. A lot of the players are complaining about a lack of hardcoe mode, which isn't fair. Through I agree, why not have a hardcoe mode? Why are the skill so dumbed downed? I mean, is this really what us fans asked for?
Anyway this game doesn't deserve a 5.6 It's most like a 7. It's fun. Playable. Just not what I (and it turns out a lot of other people) expected or wanted.
This happens at the release of any Bethesda title. People will always find something to declare Bethesda pissed in their Cheerios.
Is the game flawless? Absolutely not. People have experienced game crippling bugs - I'm lucky the worst thing I've encountered is a subtitle freeze during dialogue. But overall I have to say Fallout 4 is a brilliant successor game even if there are things I miss.
Okay, so how would you rate Vanilla NV to Vanilla Fallout 4? Seems a fairer comparison then a game that's been in the wild for five years and benefited from the creativity of outstanding mod authors (Many of whom I'm sure will bring their talents to Fallout 4 if the desire hits).
Yea, it must be pure hate, not like the people complaining state the reason they are complaining in their posts, like the previous posts. They must be doing it for the kicks... -.-
So far I'm 10 hours in and I'm still fighting the controls. They were way better in Fallout 3
Same thing happens to me, but instead of Masterchef, its some cooking show of where the cook travels all over the world, can't remember the name of it lol.
This game is not an FPS, I question whether all of the people claiming that Fallout 4 abandoned RPG elements for better FPS elements has ever really played a decent FPS for any amount of time. In an ACTUAL FPS auto-aim would be present, there would be no faction system at all (reviewers seem to think there is one), heavy customization for weaponry and armour aren't a real factor (limited options only), skill checks don't exist (persuasion), ect..
FO3 and FONV actually had more limited character build option, for the most part there was only one build in vanilla: Demigod. If you limited your level, and intentionally gimped yourself there were other possible builds, but you can do that with FO4 too. In fact it is significantly easier to gimp yourself in FO4, in addition to the more complex builds it offers compared to FO3/FONV Demigod.
The spec system in Fallout was massively broken, by the time you maxed out your level you were a MOAT. If anything the spec system in FO4 is superior because it forces you to consider S.P.E.C.I.A.L.. You shouldn't be able to have a silver tongue without high charisma, or small arms skills without significant agility, but you could in FO3 and FONV. ESPECIALLY FONV. That game allowed you to do a great portion of the game as a silver tongued passivist with a Charisma of 1.
Rightr now I'd say NV was better. Certainly gave you more choices. Right now, I enter Diamond City. You'd think people enter the city all the time decked out in full power armor and a big mini-gun pointing at them. Talk about immersion breaking. Walking into a story wearing said armor and gun. Anyway, that was the last straw for me.
Look, it feels like Beth took the easy way out. The game has been dumbed down - you know forget it. I'm talking into the wind here.
I'm just gonna put this game down and wait a long while. Maybe after a few DLC's and mods it'll actually be a Fallout game.
Folks, please don't turn this into a "what is an rpg" and/or "which Fallout game is best" thread or it will be locked as off topic.
I am loving Fallout 4.
The UI isn't very good, unbindable keys is unacceptable, multi-function keys svck, some functions cannot be rebound svcks even harder. So yah, the options menu and the UI are abysmal.
But the gameplay itself is fantastic. I was a bit worried when people kept railing on how terrible the voice acting was or how terrible the animations looked. Well i really enjoy the voice acting, and the animations and lip-sync may not be top notch but it's certainly more than adequate and meets my expectations.
The music is gorgeous, as are the environments.
And the enemies, ho boy. They are much better. Mole Rats and such pop up from the ground and ambush you. Raiders are more inclined to seek cover. But above all, my god the Ferals. They are terrifying now. They charge with complete reckless abandon of their own well-being.
First time i encountered them they were amongst a bunch of dead ferals. I figured the local raiders i was there to kill had cleared the place out. Boy that was a mistake i won't make twice. They're many, and they're fast. First i tried to get some aimed shots on, but they close and swarm to fast it rapidly devolved into panic shooting from the hip.
Not that a few limbs lost really stops them. One time i shot both a ferals arms off, he just kept charging me in an attempt to headbutt me. Even if they seem to go down, they sometimes aren't dead yet and get back up again. Caught me by surprised a few times now. Also, the way they slither through windows and vents, putting me on the spot like they do. Brilliant. I now actually fear feral ghouls, they justifiably scare me.
Weapon modding and the new armor system is also great. Having a great time piecing together a serviceable weapon to deal with the multiple threats, and i have to say this Fallout is much more difficult than previous Bethesda games. Even outright brutal at times. First time i ran into a Yao Guai i thought i'd give it a try and shoot it, it just made it very very angry.
It's not that I don't like it. It it had another name I'd be fine. It's fun. Great music (which is nice), and the exploring is tons of fun. It just doesn't feel like a FO game to me. And way too many short-cuts. I mean, com'on - power armor in 30 mins at level 4? Really? That tells you right there what this game is gonna be.
Like I said earlier in this thread, this game doesn't deserve a 5.6 rating. It's a 7 (8 when the bugs and UI are fixed).
PS. The weather. Whoever did that effect deserves a raise. It's really nice. When I saw droplets of rain on the glass of my armor, it was a nice touch. And the fog.. it can get downright scary.
if it had another name it would be fine? why exactly are you on here since you don't like bethesda's fallout games? just to complain? actually the game is very good but it does seem to me a lot of "early" fallout fans are VERY negative, aggressive and extremely upset because its not "more like the older fallouts", i hear a lot of "its just not a good fallout game" or "why didn't they let obsidian make it instead" .....enough already, they make games their fans like
I remember now it was like this on BSN, when ME3 released; what a [censored]storm that was.
Cant wait for the someguy2000 mods in Fallout 4. The ending of Bounties III was absolutely wonderful.
Now the ending of F4.........is a disaster, especially the structure of the final mission.
Every game release is filled with doom and gloom. What gamers seem not to grasp is the their likes and dislikes are SUBJECTIVE and not indicative of any superior level of sophistication on their part. Not all games appeal to all people. The fact that there are games out there that I don't like, that they don't like and you don't like is actually a POSITIVE. This means that there is great diversity in the industry which means there is room for all types of games for all types of gamers. And the more gamers there are the larger the industry gets. The larger the industry gets the more studios there are producing games. The more studios there are the greater chance for new innovative game play. The more innovation there is the healthier the industry.
If you like the game buy it and play it. if you don't like the game DON'T buy it. If you already bought it REFUND IT NOW. There are refund policies for all major digital download suppliers. But how could people have been caught with their pants down the embargo was lifted on the 9th so that gave people time to get reviews see twitch streams , watch youtube videos and still be able to pre-order to get that MUST have pre-order bonus.Plus it wasn't like the embargo wasn't broken BEFORE this date either. WTF is wrong with people? Why are people not waiting for information to make informed decisions and then blaming everyone else but themselves for acting like idiots?
Seriously the most problematic issue in the gaming industry is not DLCs or micro-transactions it is gamers. We need to start acting like advltS and not spoiled children and start making informed choices and not blaming everyone else but ourselves for buying something sight unseen. I don't like certain things in games so i always wait for reviews from reviewers that I know share similar tastes and I watch game play footage to get an idea of a game. I rarely buy a game I don't like because i am not a moron.
BiowEAres problem was not bugs. Well it was too, but mostly it was with "Lots of Speculation", crap writing, illogical ingame choises and leaps of faith that went against core lore issues etc. I know. Because I was one of the people who really rose a stink over it.
EA destroys what it gets into contact with. We have seen it ad nauseam.
Anthony Bourdain? Yeah.. I like him too
Anywho.. playing the game on a sub par rig and no coming across any real problems yet, just had to dial down the resolution a bit and it runs smooth
Bethesda have done a great job at putting together a sequel that appeals to the masses. There's probably a 10 ratio that fall into the die hard RPG 'missing the old FO1/FO2 genre, another 10 at the other end of the spectrum that simply want a chewing gum type FPS, and then the remainder that fall in the middle. That are happy with what we have the opportunity to play.
Is it an FPS? yes. Is it an RPG? yes. The degree's of which it is will always be subjective.
In any case, one thing we can always rely on is mods. Don't like the low quality textures? (by the way I don't think they're that bad at all) - 2/4k textures will be out. Don't think there's enough perks? a perk mod will most likely drop. Don't like the UI? it'll be modded......
Remember Skyrim? SMIM/2K Textures/PerMa/SkyUI?... There's absolutely no reason to suggest similar mods won't follow.
Yea EA destroyed ME3 by taking out the core things that made the franchise great (making decisions, developing relationships and a personal character) in favor of focusing on a multi-player mode that people played for about 5 seconds. And dat ending..... Lots and lots of OT was worked at Bioware to "fix" the ending and then give us a "real" non-ending ending DLC.
I agree OP.
I turned on the game, spent about an hour in the character creation. Then got down to playing. Exited the Vault 111 and got back to the house. Spent nothing but the next several hours scavenging around for materials and supplies. Built up a pretty cool fortified home with a turret across the street from my old house. Weathered a couple horrible storms. Killed some flies, radroaches and such. I am having a BLAST right now.
