Tool to export character to a new game?

Post » Fri Mar 08, 2013 10:07 pm

Are there any tools that can help importing a character into a new game?

Basically I'm talking about body/face, skills, level, stats, spells, abilities, and inventory. All quests reset. So I want to keep my character progression, but none of the story, cell visited/cleared info, etc. I want to make a new character, then exit the game, use some utility to overwrite that new toon with an old toon from an old save, and keep going.

Anything out there that will help me do that?

This would be a cool mod, but unfortunately I don't think one exists. The thing that is preventing a mod like this happening is I don't believe there is a way to have Papyrus read/write to an external txt file.

If that was somehow possible, then I could see this happening as the mod giving you 2 spells when it first loads. You load up your old chararacter and cast the Copy spell. Then you quit to main menu, load up your new character and this time cast the Paste spell. Skills, perks, level, spells and abilities would probably be doable, inventory would be plausible, but I've got no idea about the face gen or stats

Just thinking out loud...

The only way to do it that I'm aware of, is manually. Mark down the ids of all your spells, the current levels of your skills, stats, perks, and the main things you want in your inventory. I believe Wrye bash can copy face data from one save to another. Then use the console to edit them all in.

Use the console command "SavePCFace [name]" to save your character's face as a .npc file.

Open the Creation Kit and find the presets for your character's race. Go to the head parts tab of your least favorite preset and use the import button to select your .npc file.

The preset will now look exactly like your old character.

Save as a new plugin and load it in-game; you will be able to select your character's appearance as a preset.
