Top 5-10 Mods devs should consider

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 2:10 pm

This is your chance to cry them out loud: out of the vast diversity of mods that have drastically enhanced or added to the Oblivion experience,

What major mods would you recommend devs to have an eye on for Skyrim?

This is not just about adding or tweaking features, it about how mods have done it.

Remember, the new level scaling system in Skyrim may appease your need for a mod this time and higher-res textures won't generally be as imperative for some time after release too and there will be many differences with Oblivion when the game is finished, so be sure to make some smart picks, but if it urges you, you're free to choose.

Let's hear your list.

Cool thread...though nothing really comes to mind. When I download mods, its simply to add game specific content...I put in very few improving mods.

1) Morrowind Graphic Extender - Phals Water shader

By looking at the water in the screenshot of the screenshots in the gameinformer magazine, I feel like the water detail can be much higher. Fallout 3's water was a big improvement from Oblivion's but I feel like Skyrim's looks more like Oblivions. I know the water in Skyrim is supposed to be dynamic or something, so perhaps theres a limitation on the detail for a reason.

I'll add more as they come to mind. :)

My first choice is not a mod,but elimination of the neck seam problem that is unavoidable in Oblivion. 2 and 3. Adding a bag of holding/Cobl luggage or add a pack animal/saddlebags to our mounts. 4. If we are able to fly a dragon, let us raze a village or two if we want,or make us have to use a dragon to end the civil war??? 5. The ability to carry our shields on our backs when we are not in actual combat.

User interface mods and OBSE. An actual made-for-the-PC interface would be very nice, and OBSE added a ton of useful script functions into the game engine. Would be very nice if they included most of those functions themselves or added an easy way to create our own script functions.

Deadly Reflexes
DarNified UI
Natural Weather/Lighting
Crowded Roads/Cities (I totally don't mind the aspect of having nameless merchants and other people travelling around)
I'd say the rest is mostly visual (IE textures, noise, etc) or concerning animations.
