Top Ten Worst Ideas For Skyrim

Post » Wed Nov 10, 2010 8:40 am

I have my own TOP TEN

10- Game Has an Ending
9 - 1:1 Timescale
8 - Starting as a Child
7 - Save Game Erasure on Death
6 - Save Points
5 - Simulated Bodily Functions
4 - Multi-Player
3 - Guns
2 - 3D
1 - Motion Control

I'm interested to see what the community thinks. We can fit 10 more ideas into the poll so lets have 'em if you can think of other bad ideas.

I know this thread is largely pointless( so spare me pointing that out) but what else do we have to do until new info is released?

Make it a Multiple-Choice... Every option svcked donkey balls.

Poll needs an "Absolutely ALL of the above." option, I can't pick just one.

All of the above?

Well that would skew the results and defeat the purpose of building a TOP TEN based on how the community feels.

You have to chose the one you think is the worst, that is the point.

As much as I'd hate just about all of those things, guns have to be the worst. They just do not belong. Motion control is a close second, I don't like it to begin with, but it could potentially be good, which is the only reason why it's not #1 for me.

But damn, you covered all of the bad ideas that I can think of at the moment. My only complaints are the ideas that try to push the game in an over-developed sense of realism to the point to where no one wants to have to suspend their disbelief anymore. But that's not really something organized enough to be able to add it to the poll though. :P

So many terrible ideas, but you said SEE, so bodily functions it is.
How about quest givers with exclamation marks over their heads?

Quick Question, what does Save Game Erasure on Death mean?
Though good poll, I had a hard time choosing, though I don't really care about guns, I would just mod all of them out anyway, though I can see it as a really bad thing for the average console player.
And to me SavePoint would be the worst, if it is what I think it is. I like being able to choose, and I save a lot. I literally save every time I walk down a hall. In Fallout 3 I saved more than a few hundred times before I made it to the GNR Building!

I suppose watching yourself travel would be the worst if it was mandatory, which it never would be, so I'll just cross that off the list.

From best to worst:

#9 1:1 timescale
#8 Save points
#7 Save game erasure on death
#6 Multiplayer (depends on the type of multiplayer really, but I'm assuming it's a RDR type optional free roam & a few game mode choices)
#5 Starting as a child
#4 Simulated bodily functions :whistling:
#3 Guns (wouldn't be utterly game ruining if it was just flintlock weapons, but it'd still be terrible)
#2 Motion Control
#1 3D

Great poll in general, only 1 question: Why is 3D supposed to be bad?

I don't see how people are agianst watching yourself travel.
But instant FT travel anywhere like FO3 and Oblivion should be number 10.

Biased I think for that option.

Oh please no child crap. I want a blank slate.

What? No Cliff Racers? :whistling:

I'd have to say I'd hate all of those things about equally, except for saved games erasing upon character deaths. It's fine if somebody wants to play like that, but I'd absolutely HATE it if Bethesda ever was crazy enough to actually implement that "feature".

I think dropping deuces was probably the worst one i heard, and i can't believe anyone would want to delete their saves if their character dies

I had to go with multi-player being the worst idea. If added it would neccessitate many other changes that would quickly ruin the franchise in my eyes. The other options (3D, start as a kid, save points, guns, erase save on death, use bathroom, motion control, 1:1 time scale, and motion control) all have various levels of terrible attached to them, but they all have a better chance of being a lone change that is reverted in the next game (and be modders in this one)...multi-player would actually appeal to some players - thus potentially becoming a franchise staple over time, I'd not ever like it to start up.

When you die, all of your save games for that character are erased making it so you can only die once per character.

it was mandatory, which it never would be,

That's a good point. I need something to replace it if i'm to remove it from the poll.

Body functions, defintely. I already have to pee when I play the game, I don't want to do it in the game as well.

I can understand the gun hate in general, but for people who have it as #1, these people cite "Fable III" as the source for their weapon history knowledge, hard to take you people seriously if you can't even legitimize your concerns or validate your crude opinions. Most people wouldn't know flintlock from matchlock, rifled from smoothbore, or automatic from manual load. "Hurr it's all the same to me" :shakehead: Almost as bad as the people who think a Crossbow is high tech.

Great poll in general, only 1 question: Why is 3D supposed to be bad?

I wouldn't care one way or another, but I think everybody hates 3d now because it's become really cliche and cheesy thanks to the movie industry. Obviously not a legitimate reason, but 3d certainly has received a negative connotation and an overall "cheap" vibe. Once you can get 3d without the glasses (there are monitors that can cross the color channels), I'd like to see 3d as standard. Theres that awful "depth of field" effect so many games have, which is so incredibly stupid, 3d would make a lot more sense once it's easier to do.

Tough choice between guns, multiplayer and save game erasing, but I chose guns for worst (followed by save game, and then multi).

Oh man, really? I assumed for some reason that it was more along the lines of "autosaves get removed upon death" or something like that.

I changed my pick then, that would be the worst. I could tolerate guns so long as it's all about Dwemer tech and magicka and the like. Not allowing me to die would just be the worst thing ever.

Plus, what are the odds of something heading straight for the camera? That is the only thing 3d is used for nowadays because people can't appreciate just good filmography anymore. Other than that I can perceive 3d perfectly fine without it. All you need to do is look at something relative to something else. Bang! You have Depth Perception and 3d.

As for the list I would have to say motion controls. Not because of the idea itself but all the even more terrible ideas that came with it. Ice hockey? Wtf?

The worst idea I thought was that one about removing the ability to continue after the main quest.

At least it'd offer a decent challenge, and if you couldn't handle it you could just lower the difficulty. In Oblivion it was nearly impossible to be killed when on the lowest difficulty setting, so the idea wouldn't be as fatal a flaw as it may seem.

My top 2:

1. Guns -- WOULD BE HORRID AND ABSOLUTELY STUPID
2. 1:1 timescale would be effing annoying at night.

Not exactly. The only reason you feel to have depth perception is because the game is in smooth motion. I find in games where you have headbob, it can be hard to judge distances. Mostly happens to me in shooters, sometimes you'll find yourself with a complete lack of depth perception in certain situations. Assuming 3d isn't hard to integrate (at some point) then I'd like to see it, it would make games look a lot better. Most games by todays standards are almost photo realistic, the main reason it doesn't "feel" like real life is because of a lack of peripheral vision, and a lack of true depth perception.

I would change the 1:1 timescale to an idea that is basically the same but much worse. The idea is that the game's clock is equal to your console or PC's clock. Which means we would get no waiting, no resting, and would have to exit the game and set the clock forward or back to change the game time. Awful.
