I never played with 2 companions at the same time. i find i pretty hard to play with only one.
You got to stay close all the time, especially if you go in the wastes in area's where you havent been before. Jericho died on me when i encountered 2 sentry bots and some enclave guys. He was killed by the last guy that was standing. But i save quite a lot so it wasnt a big deal.
Not really helpful advice for you now..but save a lot!

Keep your followers close when you're in that area. Or, Germantown is pretty lightly defended on the outside, just leave your followers behind and eliminate the few muties in the area yourself, then fetch them again.

Lol, I save a lot more than you do. Correct me if I'm wrong. If I am about to go into combat I'll save the game and save every time I get a good shot on somebody. I'll even save the game, rearrange where I am in the Pip-Boy, and save again. If I have my Sniper out and I see an enemy I'll save, so just in case I miss him I can reload the game and try again.

Don't use followers. Do have Dogmeat but I keep him in my home at Magaton, gives me somebody to talk to when I am not out saving the world.

PS/ Dogmeat likes it just fine staying at home.

From my limited experience, companions tend to get in the way more than anything. Dogmeat makes for a nice distraction from time to time but he always jumps right into my line-of-fire. In future games I think I'll just not use companions unless I'm RPing.

I think they've made a lot of noticeable and appreciable updates to the companion system for Fallout NV. One example would be the companion wheel. I'm not sure how much the actual system has been changed though. We'll all have to wait until October 19th. Or for the noobs, October 22nd ^_^.

yes, but its a challenge too. And big mouthed guys like Butch and Jericho actually deserve to get shot. And if they die? I dont really care..

The only follower who I've been able to keep for an extended period of time was Fawkes. Charon, Star Paladin Cross, and Dogmeat all died on me. I used the console to resurrect Charon (yea I'm a cheater so what) but his lines reverted to what they were before you get him. It just wasn't the same...he would follow me, but I couldn't talk to him, so the second time he died, he stayed dead. When Star Paladin Cross died, I never found her back. I wasn't able to find Dogmeat back either.

I like doublung up on followers so they can watch each other's back as well as mine. Fawkes and Cross are my favorite combo, but right now I'm experimenting with RL-3 and Cross.

I do the same. I'm sure Wadsworth enjoys the company as well. Companions are nothing but a nuisance IMO, it's impossible to use any sort of tactics when they're around. Just rush in with guns blazing. That gets to be a boring way to play after awhile, I prefer using a bit of finesse in my battles. Like laying out a minefield and luring them into my trap, or firing a couple of shots at them with my .10 mm then ducking around a corner with my Combat Shotgun waiting for them when they come around it. Those kinds of things are almost impossible to do if you have a companion, they'll just go charging in.

i finally found one of fawke's bad sides. he cant sneak, no really im pretty sure super mutants dont have the ability to sneak. correct me if i am wrong but who here has seen a stealthy super mutant?

im a loner, i never use a companion.

suprise is my sword and shadow is my shield, i ready my knife and strike at the heart, and i sneak away when i see a reaver :bolt:

of course you can replace knife with jingwei's shocksword

and reaver with overlord, albino, deathclaw, and most of there variants in MMM.

This is why you don't play with companions.

Fort Constantine has a patrol of Outcasts round it anyway, so sometimes I manage to drag them into battle with me by luring the robots out :)
