The dark clausterphobic tunnels filled with shrill screams and voices. The dilapitated buildings with dangerous mutants almost around every corner. When I first got this game, it was my first open world game. When I escaped Vault 101 and was greeted by the vast Wasteland, everything that could've gone wrong went wrong. I saw a wild dog nearby and tried to befriend it thinking it was a friendly and died. I got lost and couldn't find Megaton. I didn't know how to read the maps. However, I eventually overcame these obstacles...except one. I was always scared to enter any building. Why? Because they're scarier than Superman 64! I hated running into a Super Mutant that had a melee weapon and kill me because I never knew I was backed up into a wall. I hated the darkness and lack of visibility. I hated the clausterphobic spaces. And most of all, I hated how scary the atmosphere was inside. Eventually, through sheer willpower and some courage, I beat the main quest and entered any building in sight. I do still get some chills though. I mean that is still pretty scary!

So have any of you felt what I've felt? Are you still scared to enter a building or tunnel system? How'd you overcome it?

Never had that problem but you know your pip-boy comes with a light right? just hold down tab and it lights up the area. Just know it affects how easily things can see you when you're sneaking.

Also, in case you weren't aware of this item yet...

Spoiler
getting the ghoul mask from the tenpenny tower quest, by helping the ghouls by either getting them into the tower nicely or killing everyone, really helps when exploring the metro and buildings with ghouls. While wearing the mask all ghouls are non-hostile and won't attack you so you don't have to worry about being freaked out by them in the dark!

What I've found with entering buildings, and even any door that takes you to another level of the building you're in, there is never a spawn point right next where you enter. If you're in stealth mode, you can get a good look about, round corners and see whats about. Although if you're always scared, I asume you're constantly sneaking

This is a little unnerving to me at the moment, as I'm about to enter the building at level 29.... Curious how many Reavers are in there, and how fast I am going to die.

That one definetly would have been freaky for me if I had gone there when I first started playing the game. I went there when I was well aquainted with Fallout 3 though (and had gone through Dunwich :obliviongate: ) so it was more of a lol moment for me. :D

Why not just go there and find out.

Oh yes there are. Won't spoil it by saying where though.

The game definitely starts, well, once you leave the vault anyway, in a more dystopian fashion than F:NV which is really gently in comparison but having played BioShock, which is like the Dunwich Building gone extra evil and creepy and underwater, nothing in the game actually scarred me that much.

Seriously? Left 4 Dead doesn't scare me at all. To me, it feels more actiony than horror.

*fixed

Sorry no offence intended there but I feel credit needs to be given where credit is due. :D The Dunwich building is actually named after a story of Lovecraft's, "The Dunwich Horror" (freaking creepy story by the way too, not really related to the "Dunwich Building in any way, but the story is definetly scary :cold: ). Also in the basemant of Dunwich, you can hear the words "Alhazred" and something else (I thinks its G'yth or something like that) being wispered. "Alhazred" is in reference to the author of the "Necronomicron" in Lovecraft's stories, Abdul Alhazred. Plus the whole basemant of Dunwich,
Spoiler
with the black obelisk
just screams Lovecraftian lore.

Then of course there's the "mysterious book" mentioned by the Jamie guy........

I'm scared of caves, and often freak out when a ghoul comes out of nowhere and hits me.
I have found, however, that Fawkes boosts my confidence tenfold.

It was a joke...?

Damn! Thought I could teach a patriarch there, but nay... Not today.

Sorry, man

On Topic:

Nobody mentioned the Franklin Metro Utility. Most scaring place in any game imo. I'll never forget my first time down there. Stay away, noobs. Just an advice.

I don't really get scared by many games... But the only things that scare me are those weird glitches.. Like the ones where there is a weird streched out Death Claw.. But it still attacks..

Two words: Dunwich Building. :cold:

I have literally never seen anything creepy or scary in that building, and I've been in there about ten times. All I run into are a bunch of feral ghouls and the occasional Reaver.

Deathclaws, on the other hand. :ahhh:

Whenever I'm moving through Old Olney, I'm always watching my back, however, I'll always hear footsteps behind me at some point and turn around to find a Deathclaw mid lunge, and I nearly jump out of my skin.

I don't usually get scared in Fallout 3. Now if something just pops up or attacks me from behind and it's like oh crap Reaver then I'll probably shiver for a moment but nothing more.

Here's what I did if you visit this place you'll realize there is nothing to fear. Go to the Dunwitch Building in the south-west corner of the map.
