The locking part would be a bit complicated :D thanks to the engine. But a trustful companion who watches over your sleep could also help.

Love the ideas going on here (yup, been reading them since this topic was posted) :D

I really like the idea that the thieves take other things besides just caps, that makes sense.

I was thinking about how we can reverse pickpocket people, and well, I am not sure I would want to wake up and be blown up...but maybe a raider would want to take us out somehow. Maybe laying some mines, poisoning a food or drink item, giving us some sort of drug that effects our stats?

This looks like so much fun that once it is released I am already planning to tell Charon to wait and not fight while I go to sleep. I want to get robbed or whatever fun things you have planned. Presumably companions will go hostile against who/whatever you will be sending at the player and I want to be able to chase down the evildoer. Your video made it look like lots of fun. I am so looking forward to this!

Wouldn't using the console to lock the house door (level 100 so that it requires key) trap the thief inside the house? I doubt it prevents entering (i'm assuming the script spawns the thief near the player), but he would be trapped inside the house. In which case the Wasteland's law comes into play :flamethrower:

@Miss Sparkle
Player strapped with explosives to disarm after awakening is already in the to do list. I see if I can get laying mines to work (as revenge if the player does it ;) ) but this could be complicated.

@llamaRCA
I am working on the companion reaction right now. There are a lot of pitfalls I have to avoid. Chasing the thief after he/she has done his dirty business is already working.

@ ToJKa
Yes this console trick would work. There is no way that I can avoid to spawn the thief in the inside. I meant in my previous post that the game doesn't give you any options to lock your doors.

@ Echonite
Makes sense ;). But simple land mines also help against thieves they aren't tough.

[edit]
I love my thieves they are sneaky guys and girls. Jericho stands there and one of my trusty enclave slaves sits on the bench nearby while I am robbed and both of them don't recognize what is going on. As soon as the thief has robbed me they wake up and hunt after the robber while I try to get out of the bed and get awake. It works like a charm and is extremely funny to watch. Sometimes the thief gets away (if I don't chase him/her) and sometimes it's an instant kill. The only thing that I have to make to complete the thieving now is the selection what is stolen.

I am in doubt if I should use FOSE for this mod. Normally I try to avoid it because some down loader are unable to install it correctly but this part would be so much easier if I could use FOSE commands. What's the opinion around here?

Yeah, but I like turrets, and theres no chance of Friendly Fire from it =P

I'm just not happy with the stock turret models, else i woulda made one. I should probably make my own model then...

If it would be easier with FOSE, then go with FOSE. You can't make a mod that will work for everyone, cus that is just more stress on you, and not to mention impossible.

So what if your explosives skill is low? You're screwed? :P

FOSE is awesome and if it makes things easier I would just go for it. I assume a large group of mod users are using it already anyway, when they're playing with FWE or Arwen's. IMO the others should just get it for this mod if they want to use it. AFAIK all versions of Fallout support it, and it's not really that difficult to install if the installation instructions are followed.

@povuholo
About the explosives skill: There is always luck which also can help you. Maybe ... ;)

I am pretty sure unlucky characters have a hard life in this mod.

@all
I solved the thiefing without FOSE. I think it is a pretty good solution. I like FOSE and it's the best debugging tool ever for me. But I always try to find a way how the mod itself could work without it. There is no logical reason it's more of a challenge for me. In the end if I don't find a solution for a problem, except using FOSE, I will use it for this mod.

A little progress report at the end:
Thieving is finished and works like a charm. It's pretty all random or stat & skill dependent which give this encounter a lot of different endings.
A few minutes ago I finished the 'sleepy wastelander' which bed you occupied. He works fine but I want to give this scene several variations so it doesn't get boring. But this is a thing of 20 minutes.
After I have made 5 scenes complete (maybe this weekend if all works in the same speed as now) I think about a public alpha version. To test it in the field. There are so many beds out there I hardly can test them all ;) .
The finished mod itself should contain about 10 different sleeping scenes.

Sounds awesome! I am glad you got to solve everything without FOSE so far, always a nice piece of mind so that people won't complain about having to use it. I personally use FOSE, so either way is fine with me :) I am looking forward to using this mod and I am sure it will go into the must have mods for anyone that tries it out :D

Finally, something I wanted for a long time.

I was wondering... I made a mod for myself (not public as of yet) that plays a random video while sleeping (not everynight either) to simulate dream/nightmare and I'm wondering if it would be compatible. I use a script while in the sleep menu (menumode 1012). I guess the best way to know is to try it.

@mariedanj
It is pretty easy to expand the random events that can happen while the player is sleeping. Simply a higher number for the random generator, a additional 'if Stage == xx' check and a timer for how long your event runs. So I am pretty sure you will be able to add your videos.

A lot of parameters will be configurable in the final version (i.e. only indoor/outdoor events, base change of events, ...). I also add a item (it will be a cute little teddy bear) that has to be in your inventory to activate this mod. So that it is possible to go back to vanilla or a different method of sleeping every time you want.

The classical progress report: "The sleepy Wastelander" is finished and some nice 'Hemiptera's' are now hunting the beds of my poor little test player in the meantime. I am sure I don't get a lot of friends for this encounter if it happens unprepared. But as always it was a lot of fun watching the reaction of my followers to this event. Btw. Jericho is a pretty bad 'exterminator' I strongly recommend to capture a meele enclave soldier for this task ;) .
I was a bit slow today but I had to finish a update for my Iguanas (mostly grammar) which should be online soon.

Both cute and ouch at the same time lol

That made me think that maybe the dogs and the night ghouls ( been using mmm so long, don't even know if they are in the default game anymore lol ) should be added to the list of possible encounters.

@old_andy
Maybe the Igunanas make a cameo. I am not sure because I don't want to bloat the mod.

@Miss Sparkle
'Dog doing it's business while you are sleeping' is already in the schedule to make. The night ghouls are nearly the same problem as the Iguanas. I don't want this mod to be dependent on other mods (even if they are mine). It should be able to work as standalone. DLCs are a similar thing. Sleeping in the Pitt or PL should be totally different as in the wastes. Some encounters/dreams could be the same but also should environment specific encounter happen. While writing this I decided to make modular extension packs for DLCs and popular mods as addition. I love to make this little encounter.

Progress report:
Hemiptera (Bed Bugs) are finished.
I am working in the moment on the first dream. It is pretty long and absolute hilarious. What would a adolescent boy/girl expelled from the vault dream about... (that's the only thing I spoil here and no worry it's rated the same way as the game itself is). I saw it now more then fifty times while making and I am still laughing :rofl: although it's meant as a nightmare :sad: ). Only one problem: I think it's simply to long (but it shouldn't be shortened the whole point of the story would be lost).
I think about to split the dream. That would mean you dream the 1st half maybe 1 to 3 times (when you are dreaming, this is also random), and then later on the whole dream. So it is shown very rarely. Is this a good solution?

I added a http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OShmRDTJUDs to the first post to show another use of the principle I use in the sleeping mod. It is a pair pose made by NBGangsta which can be fully used with the player on any npc ingame. Without console commands, any special camera or ini changes This is all unaltered or edited (except the title) ingame footage.
I know the transition for the player looks a bit odd in the moment. But it was a pose and I hadn't made the correct timing as I recorded this. The video was made as a little proof of concept demonstration this one will not included in the sleep mod. But it's wonderful how flexible this principle is.

Progress report:
Four encounters (Dog, Sleepy Wastelander, Bed Bugs & Thief) and 2 dreams (it's the long one splitted in two halfs) are ready. I completed the configuration menu, the selection of sleepwear. On my todo list are the encounter selection (indoor, outdoor, DLC, ...), FWE compatibility and some more configuration options.

sesom....that is very, very sweet. The Lone Wandererer, well my LW anyway, needs a hug once in awhile. I know you said this won't be in the sleep mod, but it's pretty awesome work either way. :tops:

I haven't got the permission from 'NBGangsta' yet so it isn't sure if this hug ever gets released. I hope he answers my pm.
I plan to make social interactions and other player animations which can be seen (hacking, lockpicking, ...) but for the 'see you sleep' (still only a working title) it would be to much and the mod would be very hard to maintain. Simply to much administration work is connected with sleeping, dreaming and random encounters.
No worry there is a reason why I called this thread 'See you...". Sleeping is only the beginning. ;)

That's good. It's a bit silly sitting an hour in the diners when your character eats and drinks in 0.5 seconds :P

Oblivion had those eating, drinking, reading etc. animations modded in, it's good to get something for Fallout 3 too.

Since you are the only, who work about sleep-mod I'm copy-past there my conception from Underground (they help me to find this topic):
Can some one make a conversion of http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16005 mod from Oblivion. And if it possible, improve it with 2 scripts:
1) Check if PC have underwear or sleepwear @ inventory, then he/she unwear all equipment (include weapon) and dress it. FOSE can remember equipped list, if I can remember correct. Then start animation play.
2) If "unweared" list not clean when PC wake up, he/she wear all list back, then list clearing.

Auto-saving need to start BEFORE PC unwear anything and animation starts.

Thank you.

P.S. How it work (how I see it):
Button to any bad no longer show you a timer. Camera become 3rd prson, you'r PC (redress to underwear if have it) and lie down to bad with closed eyes (similar like NPC do this). If any one attack PC when timer not started, he "wake up" (like NPC), wear normal equip and then camera become 1st-person back.
To start timer of sleep process (skip hours, restore HP and limbs, well rested), you need to press button (dialogue must be corrected to "sleep" instead "wait" by "lie down" script).

P.P.S Also I can remember something like "Magic Сhair" mod, when played Oblivion many years ago. He replace a normal waiting 1-hour-skipping timer to animation "sit down to chair > tame accelerate > time normalised > get up from chair". If some one can combine this 2 ideas to one mod (except a chair, in post-nuclear game PC must sit to the ground, like beggars), my game become almost perfect ^_^

Is I can see, @ some aspects you made more, then I can imagine, but hope you can find something useful to do it best.

Mine works a bit different but a lot of the aspects are the same. Some details:

You can choose what you are wearing while you are sleeping. Sorry, no armor possible only normal clothing, ever tried to sleep in armor? I did and there is no way to get good sleep in it. You also can choose to take a small weapon while sleeping but then you have to sleep nak.. in your patented glued Vault Tec underwear.

The 'Sleep' dialogue box appears and let you choose how long you plan to sleep. You could say you adjust a alarm clock ;) . Then your character goes to bed and maybe something happens while you are sleeping or maybe not ;) (dreams, visits, .. see the rest of this thread) . Maybe you wakeup or maybe... you know what I mean here.

If your sleep is disturbed it depends on your agility and a little randomness how fast you get out of bed and dressed.

It is possible to get murdered while sleeping but this is pretty rare and if autosave is enabled there is a save to go back to as you get in bed.

You can change the camera while sleeping but 1st person shows you yourself (sorry I don't want to make a extra animation for this, normaly your eyes should be closed in 1st person).

The first version with 6 different encounters is ready for the normal game. I am working on the FWE compatibility right now. If this is done I make a beta release.

Btw. I achieved all this completly without FOSE. So it will not be needed.
