With the pop-up software keyboard, I there was an additional page of symbols that has special letters like these. Can't remember which version of FIFA it is, I played it passively in the military (yeah have your laughs)

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA ok I'm done.

Well chances are, if they're in the dashboard keyboard then you can use them for your character name :) they should be in lol they have all sorts of accents. I'd check, but I'm too lazy.

I'm sorry, OP, that you cannot get past the fact that TES is not real life and that Skyrim is not Norway, because almost all of your topics I've seen on this forum have been about making Skyrim more like real-life Norway. I hope you can get past it and enjoy Skyrim for being Skyrim instead of letting real life get in the way.

i would enjoy those letters being put into the game. I always considered (not sure if this is lore correct, just my opinion) the English everyone uses in these games to be TES equivalent of the "common tongue" in LOTR- a universal language, in the case of TES, imposed by the empire. Maybe since the collapse of the empire local languages (or at least names) are making a comeback.

Well the British "glass" (glahs) "opens up" the A so it's once again the wrong kind of A (like in "Father", not "Adder") even though it's the appropriate length :P

? = Cat, Bat, Splat
? = Girl, Swirl, Earl
? = Awe, Law, Claw

Who cares about modern Scandinavian letters, you are better off going back to http://www.earthchildpendants.co.uk/eldrfuthark.gif if you want to emulate Viking culture....which didn't have any of those characters as you show them.

That'd be a little weird. I've drilled it too far in my head from Latin that ? sounds like "aye". But I'm just not that bright, and I'm still accidentally pronouncing the new pokemon Victini as "wiktini"

First lesson in class: "?" is for "?some".

Second lesson: "E" is for "English," and English is the official language of the forums. :P

Yeah, like Aegis, for instance, which people pronounce "EY-gus" when in fact the correct (latin, not the anglo-latin) pronounciation is "AE-gus" (hence the Ae/? in the beginning of the word). The problem is that english is "incorrect" compared to the latin (even though it's correct in the english context - when you're saying the anglo-latin words in english).

Jesus isn't "JEE-sus", it's actually "YEH-sus".
Nation is actually "NAH-tee-awn".
etc etc

I don't want to sound like a [censored] but you picked the wrong runes, though you have the right idea. Yet I suppose this is another kind of matter.

á T D ó í ú Y é
á t e ó í ú y é

I believe the OP forgot about these (along with ?/?) are from icelandic, icelandic is precisely a modernized version of ancient norse. take ancient norse, add a few letters into a few words and like make as complicated a language to write down as possible and you've got icelandic.

Now all we need is a member from the Faroe Islands to claim them and we've collected the whole of them in this thread.

Doesn't it let you type any character on your keyboard for names?

I want the game to adapt to my keyboard layout. If I have a Norwegian keyboard, I should not have to be stuck with American keyboard settings in-game (like in Oblivion and Morrowind). It's very confusing when I name my characters and i need a - or a ' and it's a completely different key.

I'd also like to be able to use character like ?, ?, ?, ü ++, if available on my keyboard.

considering these are in every OS pretty much it really isn't a big problem to implement it. Even if things such as ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ○ ? ? ? ?... ect were included it would take Bethesda like 5 minutes if that to implement them and since its a SP won't have to worry about any arguments on these boards like "its Unrealistic" or "I hate special chars"

Wouldn't want all those NPCs who call you by name to mispronounce it.

I'm all for supporting Unicode so we can have everything. I would love to have the full English alphabet, including the letters ? (ash), ? (ethel), t (thorn), e (eth), ? (yogh), and ? (wynn); the diaeresis for vowels (ü, etc.); and other accented vowels (é, è, etc.). OK, so most of those are now considered archaic, but the diaeresis marker (two dots) isn't. (And for the record, ? first came from the Futhark as "ash", faded into disuse, then came back from Latin with the "eye" pronunciation.)

I wouldn't mind seeing them in Nordic writing. But in just regular dialogue I'd rather it remain the same. Unless that word is actually derived from Scandinavia and requires that letter.
