18+

Pegi has finally turned 18 for Skyrim! Yay...her? Anyway, Skyrim is an 18 (although i'm not exactly sure anymore as some people are saying its not). What I wanted to ask is, what do you reckon will be included in the game now that it is finally an 18? I mean, what are we talking about here? six? Gore? Drugs? The works?! What do you guys think? Also, do you think it is wise for TES to go this new mature route or do you reckon that they should stick to the norm, kiddish TES we know?

Wise, kids will play it regardless, and the content that earns the stricter rating usually makes a game more immersive.

Surely at this point it's just speculation - as far as I know a game being sent for classification by the censorship boards in various countries is one of the last things that happens in the development cycle - ie. we won't know for sure what rating it's given until close before release.

Ah right i see! :) Well if it does end up to be an 18, do you reckon that that will be a good or bad thing? what kind of things do you reckon they will include if it is?

The designers said they weren't making it to "be" a specific rating, they were just making it. So, they'll make the game what they intended, and the ratings will fall out from that. It becoming "Pegi 18" isn't going to make them suddenly decide to add new stuff to it.

You're right of course, but with Todd saying he'd be surprised if it didn't earn an M rating, and that they were designing the game with that in mind. Add in them messing around with dismemberment and it's looking pretty likely it'll have that rating.

I don't really care, as long as its Elder Scrolls, and no nudity, its fine by my parents.

Well we had gore and drugs before when the games were rated T but I'm expecting more blood and gore (finishing moves) this time around. six however you can rule out as Todd said they didn't want to go that route again (reference to Daggerfall).

Hmm no i don't you're right! I mainly made this thread because so many people have been talking about and it seems so likely now what with all that violence in the gameplay trailer and the gameplay trailer being an 18 so who knows! But i think its very likely atleast in some countries to be an 18

I don't see what the big deal is over a rating. Theoretically, yes, Bethesda would have a bit more leeway with what they can put into the game if they had a more 'mature' rating, but under no circumstances does that determine the quality of the game they are developing. In all honesty, it wouldn't make a change in the slightest, so why should I care?

Past TES games has had a content rated M and its really 17+, Because of the blood and gore, you have to think about it from a psychological point, Humans killing Humans in the past has had severe Psychological problems for the Killer this is even stated in any biblical text Bible, Koran, etc..

I would say it is going to be M by ESRB and Pegi 18. Really wouldn't expect anything less than that from what we have seen so far.

Hard to say - my copy of Oblivion is rated 15, and my copy of Morrowind doesn't have a rating because it was before that system was introduced here for video games.

Certainly in the UK the game would have to contain a lot more advlt themes and more realistic depiction of violence, compared to previous TES games, to get an 18 rating - so I would guess it will get a 15 here if its 'mature content' is similar to that in Oblivion.

The 18 rated games I own include DA:Origins (for the six scenes), The Witcher (for the sixual references and language), and FO3/FONV (for language and drug use).

Weird there doesn't seem to be anything about it on http://www.pegi.info/en/index/global_id/505/?searchString=skyrim.

In any case, it's not particulary hard to get a 18+ rating from PEGI. Add some swears and some bloody violence, and it's sure to be 18+. Most shooters are rated 18+, as was Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

In most aspects PEGI's 18+ is comparable to ESRB's M.

I doubt there will be anything really advlt in it more than a bit of gore. I read the devs are experimenting with dismemberment but it won't be as gory as Fallout 3. I'd be very, very surprised if there was anything sixual, or any nudity. There also can't be any swearing (given the fantasy setting)... so I think it's probably a case of an over-strict American rating system.

Once when I was playing Oblivion, at Weye theres this old guy who asks you to find some scales he can sell so he can retire, and he tells you he already has some retirement money stored away at his house, so i pickpocketed the key to his chest from him, and took the money. Afterwards, I felt guilty, since its HIS money for retirement and he cant work yet.
I dont know whats was the point of saying all that..

Umm...since when has Elder Scrolls been "kiddish." In my experience, Elder Scrolls has always had at minimum a slightly dark edge.

Based on things I've heard Bethesda say, they don't seem to be the type to aim for a rating. They just make the game's content appropriate for the mood they want, avoid an advlts only rating (a bit different from a mature rating as it makes it illegal for minors to play—ever), and let whatever they made get rated.

Skyrim will probably have more gore (if this talk of dismemberment comes to fruition) than Oblivion did and that had an "M" rating; therefore, I would guess that Skyrim will have an an "M" or 18+ rating as well.

I doesn't matter to me though. As long as the rating reflects the developer's choices for content rather than Bethesda trying to make a gory game just because.

Hmm, Fable had a few things that you'd think would make it PEGI 18 but it only ended up with a 16 rating.

I think it was already confirmed that Skyrim won't be as gory as Fallout3 was even with the possibility if dismemberment being in (I think they're still tinkering with that). I suspect the gore/blood level will be similar to that of Oblivion and I also think it will most likely get an M/18+ rating. Whatever it'll end up being though, I'm fine with it.

ok if you were 12 years old you might still have a problem with stealing or killing, the ratings are there to prevent ages 16 and below from purchasing these types of games with this type of content. granted if you were a teenager you might not have a problem with this stuff but still cant buy the game.

I'm an advlt, therefore I like playing advlt games (I'm aware of the connatations, I don't necessarily mean sixual), so good.

Age, content ratings and labels/classifications are illusory, as well as the concept of mature/immature and placing a definite on it. It's hilarious how people's consciousnesses are magnetized to things like these.

So with that said, its pretty much a given there going for a much more darker and grittier style then bright and sunny Oblivion which i feel is awesome.
