Torches...

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 10:55 am

I searched the forums and did not find any threads like this one. But it is for the discussion of torches being used as weapons.

Do you think that they will do fire elemental damage, and will they, like fire spells, will they catch alight shrubbery and the environment.

Also, do you think that it is a good idea to be implemented in Skyrim, and will you use it?

It would be good if torches actually weighed something this time around

If they can be used as weapons, I hope that they can be continued to be used as weaker versions of clubs if they happen to go out or you get tossed into a lake.

It would also be nice to relight them.

If I hit a fire elemental with my unlit torch, it would be cool to see it light up again :)

I'm sure they'll make them a nice weapon at low levels, but I doubt it will be very effective the higher you are. I like the idea though. I know I'm gonna be using it.

Yeah, that would be cool! I didn't like it how that they simply disappeared when they went out.

They will act like torches and it already said actions and spells affect the environment.

it is actually really smart thtat they did that because in real life if i woke up in a prison and i was escaping and i had no weapon but a torch.. you can bet that is what i would use to kill all the goblins in the caves of the prison

maybe theyll act as weapons that are built for specific circumstances
like burning away the webs of the giant spiders that live in the crypts, or burning plant like enemies

I hope I can swing a pickaxe. I know it's not in the game, but every time I saw a scythe in a box somewhere I've always wanted to use it as a weapon.

I hope burns show on their body. If I hit someone in their arm, I'd like to see a burn mark. Maybe some burnt hair.

When I think of a weapon and a torch, I think of Aragorn fighting off the Nazgul at Weathertop, sword in one hand, torch in the other.

Would be epic.

At the very least, I'm happy that using a torch for light won't OVERLY gimp us. Obviously, however, other light sources need to be preferable, as torches will most likely be fairly common place. Just hopefully not to the level of Oblivion, where I'm sure I had several hundred of the blighters sat in my inventory whilst I used night eye.

Dual-wield torches to frighten animals? Sounds good to me.

You pretty much said what I wanted to say. But it's cool that using a torch is now useful for non magic users. Instead of gimping you as you said, it now has a combat use to make up for not having a shield or other weapon in your hand. Always felt more vulnerable in Oblivion since the only thing you could use it for was light.

I like the idea of waving it in an enemies face though, pushing them back possibly for fear of getting burned as I slash at them with my sword or whatever melee weapon I happen to be using. Lord of the Rings springs to mind like it did for you.

I thought about this a couple of days too. Frightening animals an enemies with it would be nice and useful sometimes. I thought about breaking the economy of cities too. Maybe you can drop a lit torch on food, wood or other resources. What about :flamethrower: a windmill?

I hope torches are as mindnumbly anxiety inducing object as they were in Morrowind and Oblivion, nothing like a fading torch deep in a Cavern infested by beastlies waiting to eat your endtrails, it took a few mods, but i was ablt to attain that pitch blackness where appropriate in Oblivion, everything was so bright x.x how do you think the UI will handle switch to them or other objects?

I dont know, but that must have some really awesome dungeon crawling experiences!

That would be... AWESOME :D!!! I would love to frighten off wolves with it, or maybe they will simply not come near?

I too thought for a while about how you would raze a windmill, and your torch idea is probably the only reasonable one I have heard!
