Torture chamber in Bravil

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 5:54 am

Maybe it's just me, but doesn't seem that place a little but too sinister for a 'lovely and cultivated Countess Alessia Caro' to be doing her needlework? Are the Count and Countess of Bravil simply a pair of sadists? Don't let me start about the Skingrad Count and his... condition.

Yes, Leyawiin. I actually meant to write Leyawiin but put in Bravil instead. Strange...

Still, those two are worse than any necromancer. Why would they do that?

Not they, she. There is no they. She's just a racist psychopath and he's too in-love to stop her.

Someone must be helping her. I don't think one Imperial woman could drag in and strap a struggling prisoner to that table by herself.

Hey, this could be good story for a quest. Maybe someone finally asked the DB to make away with her...

A Dunmer woman had no trouble with it. Although she was a vampire, so she was stonger than your average prisoner.

The Countess has a bodyguard. And I think it's more than racism, she also seems to hate criminals. And they're on the receiving end of both hatreds.

Of course, the prisoners don't deserve to be tortured, but they aren't innocent either.

I dunno, the Telvanni have almost certainly done worse in terms of torture.

You don't have to be evil to have a torture chamber. I like the torture chamber, I think it adds a bit of medieval flair. I think there should be a mod that adds them to all castles for realism.

A lot of castles in the Middle Ages had torture chambers. Doesn't mean that they were all ruled over by evil overlords.

There's a somewhat understated story element with regard to Leyawiin. Alessia Caro and her altmer advisor are trying to assimilate the khajiit and argonians into a silent, obedient, and Nibenean-styled underclass. The torture chamber is one tool towards that end, particularly against the Renrija Krin insurgents. There are a couple of NPCs (don't recall which) in Castle Leyawiin who will divulge a bit of info about this if you get their disposition high enough.

"Hell have no fury like a womens scorn" or blind racism for that matter.

But she could easily have the guards of the town get them, they report directly to her after all.

It was a figure of speech. I was looking for someone 'evil' and came up with Necromancers. I'm not stupid.

I'm a writer and am sort of fascinated by philosophy of torture. Not that I'm a sadist myself, I'm fascinated from a story-teller's perspective. For a thing that happened so much through history (read: inquisition) historic stories usually avoid it or it's too gruesome to be read. And this torture chamber in Leyawiin got me thinking on a story. Maybe I will post in the Lore section soon...

The Count is good I think...he might not even know that it's happening, the Countess is the one doing it.

If by Altmer you mean Hlidara Mothril you are wrong. Hlidara Mothril is horrified by the torture, she is not involved in it. She is one of those who will tell you about it.

Fan fiction is on charter in the TES Fan Fiction section, but not here. The focus of this forum is a bit narrower, generally dealing with topics that are founded in in-game observations, canonical writings, and generally accepted secondary writings. "TES Nonfiction", if you will.

Anyway, I've always thought there is more to Marius and Alessia Caro than any in-game character will let on. I think they're into S&M, myself, though I only have a flimsy observation to go on: the two chased my thief out of their bedroom once, but not before he noticed that both were not at full health.

I think don't playing the blame game is a wise thing to do in TES.

Not when it's the Telvanni. They're not above anything. Well, not anything, but almost.

Possibly the same reason the Nazis carried out many of their torturous experiments on "lesser races": science (though rather unethical).

Or perhaps she just likes to hear them squeal. I'm surprised to find out it's not quest related. Speaking of which, there's a guy in the IC with some rather odd gardening habits, if you look in his basemant. Lots of blood, implements of torture, and...flowers. I can't recall the name, but he's an Imperial with a wife who complains about him in her rumours.

It's funny that they set up a specific time of month when she can be easily assassinated. ;)

...Yes, I realize what that sounds like. No, that isn't what's intended.

Anyway, in my game it sort of glitched after the Stark Reality spell. She's still walking around in her knickers. >_>

Amantius Allectus. He was trying to create and sustain a vampiric variety of plant, but abandoned it soon after he started having to attain human blood for them.

Note: It would be interesting to see hazardous plants like the Drinkers in TES V, I think. It was tried in Oblivion with the Harrada, but with the scaling it was more a nuisance than a danger. I'd like to see something like a Noose Tree that grabs you and drags you across the ground when you step into it. They'd have to add in the ability to defend and maneuver for attack while knocked to the ground, but that might add something in itself.
