Torture In Skyrim

Post » Tue Jun 28, 2011 11:25 am

Remind me of torture scene in "Man on Fire" with calm (more or less) finger cutting and burning
Those who have played "Punisher" should remember torturing moments- if you overdid it person died and you got no info
But if honestly torture can be bloody or bloodless (using water, fire or phobias to crack person)
And torture is still used, it isn't openly admitted and when it becomes widely known, people directly responsible for that, finds scapegoats to blame
Anyway such moments should be in (like finding weak spots in persons defense and using smart torture instead of brutal approach)

Well, they had a light version of that in Oblivion, when you had to beat a member of the Blackwood Company for information.

Thankfully they let those of us above that use other means. I'd probably quit a quest line that required something so evil.

You can already kill pretty much everyone in a village, and people are afraid of tourture?
You people have strange concepts of what disturbs you.

Torture isn't evil.If it is evil then every church, kingdom or political faction from the beginning of humanity to 1949 is evil.

Yeah, and?

I actually voted no on this one. Torture makes me sick, its an awful thing to do even if it is just a video game.

It one thing to beat someone up for info (this is ok)
But tearing out fingernails/mutilation is a no no.

I agree. I play this game to be some guy in a fantasy world, not to torture NPCs with various means.

@ AtomicAndy= True. I guess, for me, I'd like the victim NPC to be able to run away/fight back even if I were trying to kill him. If said NPC was strapped to a pole/chair/wall, then it doesn't seem as fair.

Im going to take the very same standpoint as the people so vocal on any nudity thread are.

It would just be sick, it wouldnt fit the game, parents would refuse to buy the game thereby hurting sales and if people need to get their horror jollies up they are better of renting a splatter movie.

I am just perplexed by this statement.
For one, I cannot get the 1949 cut off. What? No one has been tortured since 1949?
Two, not all churches, kingdoms, and political factions have practiced torture.
And last, not because a lot of people do something, it means is right, or not wrong.

As for the OP, come on. The suggestions get more ridiculous every day.

I was perplexed as well.
If in this world there exists such a thing as naked evil, something that is always evil no matter the circumstance it is torture.

Terry Pratchett says the only crime is treating people like things. All crimes, all evil, start with thinking of people as things, instead of human beings just like your loved ones.
If there is an epithome of treating people as things it must be torture.

Perplexing indeed.

I don't get the 1949 cut off date. You don't think it's still going on today?

I voted yes, but it was a tentative yes. If it fits a quest or something, then I'm okay with that.

IMO Dungeonkeeper 1&2 can't be outdone for torture ; any attempt would be a pale copy and nowhere near as amusing.

*Excessive gore & pain is not the way to go for TES, and IMO would not add to the value of the game ~but might detract.

Didn't you read my other post?I meant torture such as cutting off finger, take fingernails, teeth,Phycological torture (gulliontne for one),water boarding etc etc.

Only the naive would believe that torture will ever cease to exist.

All this "Good" and "Evil" talk is stupid. Everything should remain grey. Morally ambiguous decisions. Consequences for all decisions.

So I woud expect to see something, but probably not interactive. Like Lucien Lachance's misunderstanding. Or some people like Relmyna Verenim. I like people like her. It was for the sake of greater good...greater good for her hahaha. I like crazy people.

The british parliament tortured people, the french, the U.S did.Every country did torture people at one point or another,so your saying all of those are evil?

The people that performed it? Yep, they were being evil people for doing that. I don't care what the reason was. They were being evil people for what they did.

Wait... did you just call the guillotine "psychological torture"?

So 1949 was a reference to the Geneva Convention... since you stated everyone was evil until the Geneva Convention, are you saying that the Geneva Convention de-evilized torture? :)

Dude, stop it. You are torturing me.

oh dear lord....I didn't mean the guillontine I meant the pendulum.

And I didn't say torture was evil I was saying that torture isn't evil.I used to Geneva Convention to point out that torture isn't just something used in "More Savage" times because undoubtly someone would have said that.

Why is torture not evil?

OT - I wouldn't mind if it was like beating people up or something but I wouldn't be to big on graphic torture.

How is torturing another human being or even an animal not evil? It's certainly not nice!

I'm curious what you classify as evil...

It depends, I don't want it too realistic. What Oblivion had was fine and would be acceptable in Skyrim.
