Total Conversion

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 11:43 am

I've been doing other things than oblivion for a time and am wondering whether anyone has successfully made a Total Conversion overhaul of Oblivion which is interesting enoughg to become immersed in. I recollect some folks were trying to do this with Middle Earth. Others were trying with one of the non-Imperial provinces. So...any success?

If not, anything new and similar to OOO?

I'd like to play again from the beginning but have it be a different experience this time. Suggestions?

Not a conversion, but Iliana's Elsweyr mod is turning into a pretty significant addition, province wise. The Middle Earth one is still being worked on, search for MERP.

Phitt made a total conversion to a mario-like platforming game where you collect stars. Only real "conversion" I'm aware of.

If you are looking for real emersion and a breathtaking landscape, not to mention a completely different experience from Oblivion, then keep an eye on Merp. Keep in mind though it's still in Beta, but the current beta is something to realy butter your toast! ;)

What exactly is MERP? Is it just a middle Earth landmass or is it a proper role playing adventure experience with quests, characters to deal with, etc?

At the moment, we are working on the exteriors and the landscape, but very recently, we have started to work on interiors. Eventually, we plan to have a full total conversion with everything that you mentioned. The main quest will follow the quest of the fellowship.

Thank all of you for your responses. Last I heard, MERP was still limited to "contributors" for copyright reasons. Is it possible I might contribute as a beta player or in some way so as to have access to the mod? I assume there are side quests, dungeons, and plenty of extraneous things to slay for various classes of characters.

I will look forward to the Elsweyr addition and to Mesogea as it matures.

Also, I'd like to learn more about Ulfgard. Also, for the ones that aren't total conversions such as Ulfgard, are they compatible with mods that scale down loot such as Fran's so that one does not have bandits wandering the world in glass armor. That design concept still offends me. I'll look for these when I get home from work.

The only completed total conversion is Nehrim. TBH, it looks AMAZING.. the world looks insanely immersive and overall looks of extremely high quality.

It has been released fairly recently, only in German though, as soon as they put out the English translation I will be right on it. Can't wait.

They are hiring professional voice actors to do the translations as well, should be something well worth taking a look at. Search for it.

Mesogea is a massive Total Conversion. Go to the link in my signature. Its well under way and given a few more weeks will be in a playable state. At present you can take a tourist tour of the world (make sure you have food, drink and plenty of time on your hands as it is by far the biggest landmass for Oblivion and probably for most games.

Its well worth a look.

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1062969-wipzbalzu/page__p__15440456 is also a 'total conversion', but it's only been in development for a few months, so it's no where near complete. Just a note for people who are interested in these types of mods.

I Just watched that video...

Man... that's scary! It does look like it would be fun, though. I bet the modder had to boost athletics way up! ;)

I wonder if the Zelda conversion will ever be in a playable stage... That could be a fun diversion, too.
