A total newb question about NavMesh

Post » Tue Dec 28, 2010 10:42 pm

I've done this once, when I made the Maint Shed, but I have forgotten how I did it, and now it doesn't seem to work.

I've been working on a customized Megaton House. I duplicated the interior, then made my changes to that.
I've playtested the non-navmeshed version, and it everything works as expected.
This past weekend, I decided to do the navmesh. All is finished except making the connection to the exterior.

I've re-read the http://geck.gamesas.com/index.php/gamesas_Tutorial_Navmesh, and looked through the http://geck.gamesas.com/index.php/Category:Nav_Mesh on the Wiki, but cant find anything except http://geck.gamesas.com/index.php/gamesas_Tutorial_Finalize_and_Connect relating to doing it, and it doesn't appear to work when I follow those directions (I don't get the green highlighted triangles at the door on either side... interior or exterior). And I can't for the life of me remember how I did it the last time

Any help?

When you click the finalize button, the green triangles should appear. But make sure the yellow teleport markers are in position (not being clipped by the door or anything else) first.
A couple times I had to adjust the navmesh points aroung the door to make it work.

Yeah, that is what I tried. I finalize the navmesh, but I don't get the green triangles.

I'm pretty limited on moving the points around, because the exterior door to the Megaton House sits right on top of a cell boundary.
I tried moving the two vertices at the door, too... but I still didn't get the connecting triangles.

That's where I had a problem too. Near a cell boundary. I recall that I finally deleted a nav point, then remeshed the triangles that went away, then it finally finalized with the green triangle. I had to try a couple times and used FO3Edit to remove all changes on the navmesh when I screwed up so I could start over ;)

Make sure your door and your marker are in the same cell. Then it should work.

Thanks guys.

I think the teleport marker was already in the same cell as the door, but I scooted it over just a tad just to be sure.

I didn't get a green triangle until I deleted a couple of the vertices, and re-did the NavMesh. Once I finalized it, it worked.
I tested with Dogmeat, and he followed me into the house, then back out again.

Thanks for the help...
I was so caught up in thinking I was doing something wrong, I would have never thought to do these things to make it work.
