Total War Discussion

Yeah I'd totally pounce on that, but I own 'em all except for Shogun 2 soo... it would be pretty pointless.

Hey Johnny, you using any mods for RTW?

I'm thoroughly enjoying Roma Surrectum right now.

I already own Rome and Medieval 2 Total war and am not interested in Napoleon or Empire but if Shogun 2 goes on sale I will probably buy it. I was a fan of the first one so this should be good as well.

Edit- If anyone has a retail copy of Medieval 2 Total War would you be able to PM if there is a registry key holding the installation directory? I wrote a small application to add mod information tot he registry to use for the game launcher and I want to be able to run the specified mod from my application. I know how to do it with Steam but I don't have entries for the game path for the game itself.

I would suggest that if you are looking to retain most of the vanilla game.

I'm not interested in campaign balance or map changes though, just combat AI and behavior.

What's wrong with making the Campaign AI better? Seriously?

And it doesn't change the map at all. Darthmod is a pure AI mod.

If you really don't want this, can't help ya. This is the best AI mod that changes the very least to M2TW. All other good AI mods are packaged with other huge mods.

http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=637 I could think of that changes nothing but the AI. I have no experience with that mod however, so I dunno.

Well it also comes with map changes, that's the deal breaker. Better campaign AI is actually a good thing and I shouldn't have mentioned it.

I fail to see what's wrong with changing the map...

Vanilla M2TW map really svcks. Bad. Pretty sure Darthmod just increases the size of the map a bit, and maybe changes around some of the rivers and such to be more accurate. Maybe even adds a town or two.

I guess that's just my opinion though.... I just really think the vanilla map is terrible.

Oh..... 4 days till Shogun 2!!!!! :celebration:

Yes!!!
One thing I'm not a fan of is that every soldier has a flag on his back.

Though I just played the demo again and it convinced me to preorder on Steam.
Why does Steam charge you before you get the game?

While I can assume most Total War fans are either sleeping, working, learning, or playing, I have had an idea.

The game has a pretty robust Clan system for multiplayer games. Why don't we found a BGS Forum Clan? Then we can defend the honor of Bethesda against the hordes of barbarians beyond our borders.

You can take a look http://www.twcenter.net/forums/index.php and see if your idea is realistic or not. :)

I have no idea how this whole "clan" function for multiplayer works. You have to use a steam group as your clan (and we already have a BGSF group so that's fine) but when I win battles my clan isn't rewarded at all. My entire "clan league" has like 20 clans in it, all of us on 0 score.

I'm loving the game, anyway. I seem to be playing MP a lot which is unusual for me in a TW game. I'm stuck in the campaign on Legendary :( I took all of Shikoku and now the AI armies on the other landmasses are so large now that I can't seem to launch a successful invasion. ;_;

I don't understand it either. Haven't played a single MP match though.

Since I could get Shogun 2 for about 13 bucks now, I could just not resist.
Now I had to laugh hard while playing. The Japanese response voices are all screwed up, 'forward' is 'retreat', somebody had the bright idea to translate "double time" literally... Did nobody check this? I mean, for all the other stuff they did get right, they botch something you could easily correct. It's even been noted since the demo apparently!

Other than that though, I like this game. Much better than Napoleon. Let alone Empire. I can live with historically inaccurate ninja, if the rest plays well. ^_^

Shogun is an awesome game. Too bad EVERY [censored] COUNTRY DECLARED WAR ON ME IN ONE TURN AND RUINED IT. Jesus. I've been fighting them all off for ( game ) years and gained a bit of territory, but there are just too many. Plus they destroyed my trade monopoly and now I'm broke.

I played a few multiplayer matches. That needs some work. It often takes a while to get a match, naval battles sometimes spawn you with ship(s) missing, huge clans destroy everything ( or so I read on the forums ), and the drop-in battles don't give XP. Making them often humiliating and frustrating endeavors.

I'd also like to ask if I'm the only one who finds the naval & siege AI buggy at times? Like men not going on the wall, and ships refusing to do what the hell you told them to do.

I've said it a few times on here, but Shogun holds a special place in my heart. They did well in giving it a new paint job and modernizing it. After a few patches, this will definitely be the new par for the Total War series, and make people forget about Napoleon.

Edit: Also if you want to play multiplayer just add me on Steam:

What was so bad about Napoleon? I really enjoyed it.

Apart from the crashing to desktop every 10-20 minutes that is...

What little I heard about Napoleon was pretty bad. Now I looked up reviews and they're excellent. I heard it had a lot of duplicate units and it was basically Empire: Total War.

The units weren't very unique, I'll give you that. Musketeers are musketeers at the end of the day though. I still enjoyed the setting.

And that whinge did me good, played it for 4 hours straight without it crashing. It did crash at the end, but I had minimised it, so I'm not that bothered.
